How a not popular gets 2nd highest vote? (And suddenly I got knocked out in first round)

I can see ally make someone intentionally 2nd place half way and at the end, but early of the game?

It's the risk/reward of campaigning for votes early. If you get to give immunity you can make allies, if you come third or w/e you are fine, and if you come second you are in trouble. It's the payoff of a risky early game for a strong late game or a quiet early and hope that people let you slip by

It needs to be a small block or big enough to strongly influence the vote
