For a long time I thought that Arresting Gaze was going to win it for you unless I clashed. Until I realized that range 4 bit on Darkside. Burst was always a problem for me, but I figured that Irresistable was probably too risky to want to use over arresting.

I do no damage, push you to 1 and end up at space 7 I think. You get to move a couple times.

Drive or Shot seemed like your only options to me. Especially Drive, since I couldn't even clash with it if I tried.

I'm 70% sure I'll win if I use Basilisk Gaze. Irresistible Grasp covers a lot of things that beat that, and I have Irresistible Strike for Jousting Shot + Stun Guard, so I think I have a response for everything you can do, so would you still go for Jousting even though I'm obviously expecting it? You know what? Just going for it.

Force Special Shot

If I didn't do this, I think I would have gone with Irresistible Grasp, with Power, Priority, and Soak.

I don't see the game continuing after this, so good game no matter what happens.

Hmm, I don't think you realize how much I lived in fear of burst these past two beats.

Even with your finisher I have priority (though as jousting's move is start of beat and your finish has range 2 ~ 3 I'm actually safer than I think you think I am using Jousting?) I'll hit you, gain my third crescendo token and then spend all three to do 4 damage which should be enough.

That wasn't the game I expected at all. Well played, and if we played again with this matchup you'd destroy me.

...how did I completely forget about Deathblow?

Oh well, I think you kill me here.

And all you needed to do was Drive or Shot, and my Burst would be useless. I knew that Jousting would beat anything that I could do aside from Burst, but I thought that Burst wasn't anywhere near safe either.

Yeah, when you played dodge a couple beats ago I knew that I had to hold onto my drive as a threat against your burst for this beat. Last beat the best I could do was to set up a good beat this time around which meant that I had to gamble on you not killing me then. If I had one more force then I could have gone with the safer move of Jousting Drive (which counters burst) anteing one crescendo token and then priority +2 and power +1. I think that beats anything you could have played this beat, but, as I say, I was one force shy of it.

It was a nail biter of an ending. I couldn't let you hit me with gaze and I couldn't let you end a beat adjacent (as I can't stun you out of much of anything.)

In any case, good game! Assuming you're still interested, I'll set up a Joal vs. Tatsumi & Juto tomorrow probably. You should take a look at what you want to use as a setup as Joal definitely takes some thought. They're two characters I want to see played so I'm looking forward to it!

Both of these last two beats, you picked a base that I wasn't even considering as an option. This time I was just being stupid, but I still think that last beat you had absolutely no reason to use Strike.

And in addition to the previous post, I think that Burst would have beaten my Burst as well. That was more than half your options.

Maybe I should have thought a little bit more about using Dodge, but if I didn't you wouldn't have gotten the fifth counter, so I don't think things would have been any easier for me. Maybe having three different ways to avoid damage could have allowed me to play safer, but it would also have forced me to maintain it longer, so that kind of evens out.

Hmm, with the strike last beat I guess that I started looking at it as a way to do enough damage to beat the soak from your Arresting style (which I assumed you'd use,) and stun you. I needed to go with a force special strike and ante both the crescendo token and power +1, but the problem was that you could handle that with just the stun guard +2. I mostly focused on Strike as the base from there on out as I needed to save drive for the last beat (and shot was too low priority to use for too many of my plans.) It had the added benefit that even if you did hit me I wouldn't be stunned and could hit back.

Also of note, I'm assuming passive abilities (including Dodge's), range, and priority of revealed bases is ignored, and they go back to the hand at end of beat rather than in discard. Don't switch finishers if either of those are wrong though. On a completely different note, how did I manage to spell this right on the first try? I'm supposed to be terrible at that, and heavily reliant on SpellCheck.
