No posts exist for this topic

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Sun Jan 04, 2004 1:13 pm

Does anybody else ever get this message? It only happens to me when I attempt to go to the next page of a thread, and I haven't quite figured out exactly what causes it yet. At the top, it says Information or something like that and where the messages should appear, it simply says "No posts exist for this topic" What is the cause of this?

i don't even know why this is a poll.

The "no posts.." message happens when someone deletes thier post. it so, if an extra page is made, and a post deleted- there is still the extra page, but all the posts exist on the previous page. make sense?

Actually, it doesn't as in one of the threads in WSOGMM (unless someone made loads of posts and then deleted them) there is a thread in which this happened. But about 3 or 4 people have posted and still haven't made it onto the empty page. Regardless, I was just interested in how it happened.

The count can get messed up. I haven't figured out where the bug is.

Just go to the previous page. If you get the messagee when clicking on page 10, go to page 9. The last post on page 9 would be the last post of all the threads.

I would've said the same thing, but Scalebane seems to be saying this happened on page 1 in some thread, so that trick wouldn't really work there.

I don't understand how it seems to say it happened on the first page, but it has never happened to me on the first page.

Also, moved to help so I don't get confused when I'm going through looking at the site ideas.

Ah!! It's happening in the scummy awards thread!
Ever wonder why that edit button is obnoxiously placed in the center like that? Yeah, that's cause of me.. and trust me, it's better off there.

And in Newbie Mafia 9!

I feel like it's been happening a lot more recently, and I don't think it necessarily has anything to do with deleted posts (or else someone in Mafia 9 is in some serious trouble...). Maybe I only think it's happening more since this thread became active again.

In NM9, I've had the thread disappear several times because of players posting while not logged in. Are these two problems related? On the old board, I seem to remember being unable to even
craft
a post unless I was logged in. It certainly would cut down on the missing threads if that were the case once again.

I've made the Road to Rome permissions match the other game forum permissions, so you cannot post unless you are registered.

My Theory:

When someone does a phantom post (not logged in), it causes the thread to drop out and the post never gets posted. I believe that the thread counter is going up even though the post gets lost somewhere. When you delete a post, the forum knows to drop the count, but the phantom post, being buggy already, does count towards the number of posts.

For example: In Newbie Mafia 5, the thread has been lost twice and when we near the end of the page, two more posts are needed to clear the "No posts" error.

possile. I might look into this.

I've done a resync on all forums. In theory it should fix this problem, but it didn't in the old board. I'd be interested in seeing if the problem is essentially gone now... Yes, I could check the stored count against the actual count, but it's getting late here.

hmm well this just happened to me while I was trying to look at my posts from when I first arrived here. There seems to only be one page of it though it says I have 7.
I know I had signed up for modship somewhere before and I was trying to retrace and find it but seems I can't...

how about when I am trying to look back at my previous posts?
Like when you clock on someones name and go to their profile and you want to look at all of their posts. I only get the first page even if it says there are like 7 pages when I read the first and try to go to the second or any other behind the first I get that no post message...

I have no problem with it. If you need help, PM me with all the details of your system:
OS; Browser type, version, cipher strength; cookies enabled, disabled, or otherwise blocked/eaten?; exact steps you take to replicate the problem; and, in case I need to log in as you, a password that you'd want me to set your account to have when I'm done. You might lose ability to log in for a few minutes while I try to replicate the problem, but after that I'd set your password to the one you sent to me.
