I thought by using the french as an example in our PMs I'd fool you into thinking I'm familiar with it and therefore influence you into choosing a different opening. RIP that plan.

Well whenever I play against the French, it has to be the less common:
3. e5
Hopefully you don't play advanced too often.

Edit: Removed double use of "well" in the same sentence.

I prefer the Classic and MacArthur variations, but I am comfortable enough with the advanced variation.

want to avoid the hasty trap of {7. ... Nxd4}.... i used to play this line against the French as white and one of my opponents made that mistake...

I'm pretty low rated to be honest (Sub 1000 ELO on chess.com, not that I've played there in years), but openings are fun! I'm hoping that having this extra time to think and calculate variations will allow me to play much better.
