Yeah when I designed the setup I intended the healer route to have a factional nightkill in between kills, which made the two routes more distinct, but Dunnstral interpreted the setup differently and as the mod his interpretation reigns and should.

Cheeks is closer to a near universal scumread than a near universal townread. Her play has been really sketchy.

The Eve lynch was scummy and I feel strongly that scum was on-wagon. I should look at who's listed as on it.

Flubber was not onwagon. As frustrating as it is that he didn't help race the deadline he's been kind of lurky in general and I doubt scum would seek deadline no-lynch as a tactic. I've been unhappy with his slot before but I think maybe I owe him higher esteem based on the wagonomics

To win nightless with 2 scum alive, you have to correctly identify 3 town. Well, that's to always win, if you identify 2, and "luckily" lynch correctly within your PoE, you go on to win the game.
To win healer with 2 scum alive, you have to correctly identify 2 town. So Healer seems stronger to me or at least comparable.

Really, what I want the most is to get a red flip so that the 5p game isn't 3:2 because this town doesn't have enough consensus for 3:2 to be a safe gamestate with either bonus I think. Cheeky's play has made her the most reliable redflip

If my townread on pyrha isn't correct I don't think I could expect to get anything else correct this game so fmpov that's the safest win. I can't necessarily expect everyone else to be townreading me enough to sign onto that though (I've been like, medium townie this game)

Clarification: what does the

Healer

bonus

mean?

Choose two players to HEAL: , instead of lynching each day. They lose their vote and voice. If both selections are town, win, otherwise, lose.

While there are 5 players alive, the town votes for 2 players to heal as a pair. If they are both town, the town faction wins, and the mafia faction loses. If they are not both town, the town faction loses, and the mafia faction wins. The line 'They lose their vote and voice' can be omitted.

The mafia probably asked the question that prompted the clarification so shos is either faking townslip or townslipping, the notification came out while the mafia were picking which players get which cards.

This is stressful this game is simpler if I view shos as scum.

I think I don't want to jump into healer route unless I can get a full commitment from some player on a heal pairing I agree with (and right now the only such pairing I could go with is me/pyrra slot). The raw chance healer route is 3:2 "LyLo" is high because my Cheeky scumread is strong but still human, and the only sane ways to resolve deadline stalemate would be to a scumsided resolution.

If 3 players hard commit to a certain healsolve, it doesn't matter whether they might not all carry through, because it would be so scummy to back out of it that The Real Third Townie would vote for the healsolve after witnessing that.

The pace of the game has felt ok to me. Each post on this page is very nonfluff. At an emotional level that makes me think we are experiencing different games here.
In spite of a "solvey tone" he seems like he's trying to disrupt my agenda the entire entire game.

It's pretty fundamental to how the heal route works that when any one player says they are ok getting self-healed on that route it gets scary. I felt that way about pisskop showing interest in it.
Lynching shos and playing nightless is runner up for me. For the nightless route I feel less particular about there being a plan for what happens next

It isn't really paranoia, it is a way for scum to control the narrative. And Pops is really trying to do that.

I try to take control of every micro I play, whether I'm town or scum. You must not have read the rest of Crown after you died. It's beneficial to exert control over a game as both alignments, not dissimilar from how it's beneficial to have a 0% lynch rate, as both alignments.

I was already cognizant of the tradeoffs described in post 1036, and thought enough is in thread that everyone would be but it's nice you've spelled it out in that way.

Every power in the game except maybe God Route is worth 1 incorrect sort, so it's illogical to vote outside the properly typed players because "we could hit scum".

shos, is the only reason you want to vote CT "tomorrow instead of today"? I think the routes are similar enough that voting between Flubber/shos/CT to hit the one most likely to flip red is optimal. The problem is my not being positive which one is scummiest.

Flubber is not helping me townread him, maybe I should be ignoring my VCA with regard to that.

To be fair to myself I am usually the one in Open Setup discussion that will point a finger and say "this setup has a high probability of going into evens, isn't this a flaw with the setup?" and the majority of people generally say "no, that's not fundamentally a bad thing, evens can be fine, it's ok for a setup to require some consensus"

So when that came up in the design of this setup I felt like I would defer to that opinion since my belief was based more in theory than having experienced evens very many times at all.

Then I play through the day 1 of this setup and like ugggggh I was right I think.

I don't think my understanding of the setup should point towards "mechanical kills are pops", if anything I think it'd be the opposite, I tried to make this setup balanced to all four options it has as much as possible and as the designer I'm biased to believe it is balanced. So as scum I would shoot based on the dayplay, more than other players rather than less. Asriel seemed pretty mislynchable and iirc he liked me so it doesn't make much sense to me as a shot I would have made. To be fair, it doesn't make lots of sense to me as a shot anyone would make.
1098 is just Drew flatly repeating his point rather addressing the point that leading the game is good as town. I'd be expect a town!Drew to be able to develop his thoughts better here.

This is kind of a frustrating throw since I put a lot of effort into this game, and the only argument seems to be that I wanted to win the setup I made up :/

This setup is really close quarters and the paranoia potential from the healer route is pretty fascinating. I kind of feel like if you vote me off of that paranoia in spite of the way CT and I played day 1, I've lost as a town player but kind of won as a designer.

I'm not sure what I should have done differently here. I think paying attention to my VCA reasons for townreading flub is probably what I'd peg the most. Even with the paranoia, I think we could have won this with a CT lynch into a shos+pissk heal.

Dunnstral definitely made a smart call. I'd beat myself up about it requiring revision, if I hadn't already seen Undertale Semi-Open reviewed with a similar mistake - the first version of the setup as written had an issue that made it beyond broken, so I similarly found a way to interpret the setup that was as similar to what was written as possible/arguably what was written, and utilized that instead.

It's a flaw in the setup design, majority lynch + evens + the skipped NK being specifically night 2 which makes D1 mislynch better than no lynch in all cases was a perfect storm of bad design.
I bear some mistake in how I made the setup, I shouldn't have overlooked it. It should be changed to address one of those three things IF NOT two of them

I think it's a slight problem. I think it's slightly scumsided. I'm not sure what the replacement should be, or maybe whether it's both the most scumsided route but too close to the runner up that it should actually be adjusted or replaced.


Im also wondering if there is a way to rewrite the setup so that it is mechanically identical but easier to follow which power will trigger from which lynch, perhaps by making it an accumulation of triggers from the deaths instead of those who are living.

I'm fine with mods playing tough on deadlines. Sometimes the mod does have to be the bad game. That is not where I would allocate much or any blame.

Shos played really well in the second day phase. I think Cheeky probably played just fine in a way that I didn't manage to jive with. Flub outright did not do viable wagoning on day 1 as town in a setup that's backbreaking for a deadline no lynch, so I found that frustrating, a lot more frustrating than his reads or playstyle or anything was(n't).

Fireshoes I appreciate you trying out the setup, it gives me some insight into mafia design to have some variety in perspectives, your perspective was different from more mechanically inclined players like Asriel or shos. I hope you can think of you didn't suffer too much.
