Rules

Inspired by Equinox's, Glork's and Ether's rulesets.

- Don’t be a dick. This is a heated game but toxicity will not be tolerated. Attack the play not the player. If your fellow players tell you to stop, you must stop. If you do not stop, I will tell you to stop. If you still do not stop, you will be force-replaced. Asking people to stop voting you or to stop scumhunting you entirely doesn't count for this rule and you may find yourself lynched if you try it.
Don't talk about ongoing games
- You may not talk to each other about this game outside of threads I have created for this purpose. You may not talk about other ongoing games in this thread.
Animated GIFs
- are of the devil, but they are permitted behind spoilers if clearly labelled as such.
Tiny text
- is also of the devil, keep it 70+ please.
Provable randomness
- is against the rules. Saying that you rolled a dice is fine, using dice tags or random.org is not.
Claiming scum
- by yourself is fine. Claiming scum with another player is against the rules.
Cryptography
- is forbidden. Breadcrumbing is okay.
Confirmation
- You have about 48 hours to confirm your role and your alignment by PM. Game will start sooner if everyone confirms. Posting in a private topic counts as confirmation.
Days
- Days last 14 days. Extensions may be granted if there are replacements, or if the majority of players make it clear to me that an extension is desired.
Activity
- You must post at least once every 48 hours or I will Prod you. You then have 24 hours to post in the game thread or I will replace you. If you come back before I find a replacement, you can stay. The activity timers run at half-speed on weekends. Players can request me to prod somebody early. This will only count as an official prod if you don't post before you would have been due for a prod. If you haven't posted in the 24 hours before the thread is locked for night, you must reply to the night start PM or you will be replaced during the night.

If you need to be absent for longer than this, you should declare

Proxying

Lynching
- Days end early when a simple majority of players (50% of living players + 1 rounded down) vote to lynch somebody. If a majority is not reached at deadline or if a majority of the players vote for no lynch, the day will end without a lynch. At evens, 50% is sufficient for no lynch.
Twilight
- Begins when a majority is reached and lasts until I lock the thread. You're still alive until I flip you so you can talk in any game threads you have access to until then, but no votes or unvotes will be counted.
Night
- Night lasts at least 48 hours. The night phase can be shortened if every living player -- even those with no night actions -- agrees to it and if I'm not busy.
Action submissions
- You may submit actions via PM (if town) or PT (if scum). If the actions are not submitted by the deadline then you do nothing. You can change your mind as many times as you like before the deadline.
Reminders
- If I don't hear from you about your night actions, I'll PM you 24 hours before the deadline. This doesn't count as a prod. If I still don't hear from you, you will take no action, unless you're scum in which case I'll use an algorithm to determine a fallback kill for you because inactivity nokills are lame.
Notes PT
- Let me know if you want a private thread to store your thoughts and feedback for the other players. This thread will be made public immediately after the game. You may draft posts in your notes PT but you may not talk about your notes PT in public. You definitely may not use the notes PT to demonstrate that you've had a town mindset in private all along; just put your town mindset in public to begin with and keep your notes to yourself.

important setup informationYou are all bodyguards. You can only protect against a direct shot by the mafia. You cannot prevent someone dying through any other means than a direct shot by the mafia.

This means that if Alice protects Bob, and Bob protects Carol, and the mafia shoot Carol, Bob will die. It doesn't matter that Alice was protecting Bob because the mafia didn't shoot Bob, they shot Carol.

If Alice and Bob both protect Carol, it will be chosen randomly whether Alice or Bob will die.

The mafia can self target if they want to.

The following mechanics are in play:

Get a RoomYou can have a PT with anyone you want, if you get enough people to vote for it.

The number of votes required for a room to go through is

Nobody is a double voter, so if you vote for a new room, it is the same as unvoting the last room you voted for. Just like when you vote for a new person, it is the same as unvoting the last person you voted.

The only exception to this is that you can hammer a room and vote for a new one in the same post.

I notice that I forgot to say in the setup information how long the restrictions would last. How about minor/cute ones that don't seriously prevent you from playing, like "you have to mention toads in all your posts", expire at the end of the day phase, but major ones, like "you can't talk to or about SomePlayer" expire after 48 hours.

About post restrictions: since you can break a post restriction 3 times before losing your vote for the rest of the day phase, you would need to be placed at L-1 3 separate times before being punished if you're not comfortable with posting audio of yourself, so I think that's fair, especially since I'd also count singing via text-to-speech. Similarly, if someone were required to post a photo of themself, I'd accept an MsPaint drawing as a photo.

I think Ame and Eve played very well and deserved the win here. Congrats!

This is the fourth time this setup has been run and so far, scum have won twice and town has won twice. The times that scum have won, they've been universally townread and were protected by a lot of the bodyguards. The times that town won, scum were unable to kill off the towny looking players because they were protected by the lynchbaity players -- being forced to night kill the people you should be lynching never goes well for scum. It's true that night kill analysis is impossible in this game, but I think having to make suboptimal night kills (if you're not towny enough to get universal protection) hurts scum more than hurts town.

Anyway, I hope you all had fun. Thank you all for playing and participating. I'm open to suggestions on the mechanics and how to make the PRs less annoying for next time. There are some songs in the mod PT that I didn't wind up posting: they're the ones not crossed out, sorted by genre.

Some of the rooms have already been made public because all the inhabitants agreed already. Let me know if you want anything redacted -- the sooner I hear from people the sooner you can read the rooms, otherwise you'll have to wait until (expired on 2020-05-08 09:15:00) to read it all.
