I've done my iso mapping thing in all the games i've played (Except for my very first newbie game) so there are a bunch of patterns that I tend to look for but even if you haven't looked at iso maps in this way, can you see how these are different from each other:
I think that the difference between these ISOs is both meaningful and something that would be difficult to fake as scum. If I were playing with him again, I would expect a new ISO map to look different from both of these (because every game is different) but still to look more like one than the other.
pedit: @lilith: sure, go for it. for me one of the biggest benefits is that it slows me down when i'm reading somebody's ISO and helps me to notice each sentence and what it's doing to the game and gives me things I can ask questions about. i notice a lot more and it helps me remember what's going on better and it helps me to understand where somebody's coming from a lot better.
Bold posts that you think are important but take notes because chances are you won't remember later why you bolded them. It goes better if you write down questions while you're doing it, too.
Pay a lot of attention to what happens in the posts between a + and a -. for example in this game he was townreading something_smart in 58 but scumhunting him again in 80. why? what changed? probably something happened between those two posts; post 80 might even explain it (i haven't looked just now). if you look and you don't see what he sees, ask about it! read changes aren't scummy (they're usually townier than not) but understanding why the read changed will help you understand them.
I find it helps more late game because there's more there, but even on day 1 if there's somebody that i'm having trouble understanding, I make an ISO map to see if it helps me understand them, and then I talk to them about stuff.
I definitely need something to force me to slow down, I often find that I'll just reread the whole thread in one sitting and at the end sit back and be like, I learned nothing from that.
I didn't reread through any of this thread during the game which was weird but also kind of nice. I think it was easier to do that because I was actively following along instead of waiting until pages built up for me to respond to/ask about things.
I also just find typing the post tags to be really soothing, I have [
post]100[/post
] in my clipboard and ctrl-v edit number ctrl-v edit number ctrl-v edit number and then now and then i copy a new number and it's just really relaxing and thoughtful and calm. and I notice so much more when doing it.
if i'm just reading a thread to read then i'm reading it the way i read a story and stories have enough redundant information in them and you're not scumhunting a story so it's easy to just read and forget to think critically about every little bit. if i'm not stopping at each post and thinking "okay but is that true? why do they think that? why are they saying that right now? what's the point of this?" then i'm reading too quickly.
At the bottom of the page, display posts by, select each person you need
Also, what is NM doing? Worst play I’ve ever seen.
I can't remember the last N_M post that wasn't bland, unimaginative and lame. Some shitposters are at least somewhat funny. You are the epitomy of the type of poster that nobody would miss if you were to suddenly disappear. You never add anything of value.
I'm guessing you haven't read the game and probably never will? Why even sign up to play?
