Queue Changes

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Thu Jul 20, 2006 8:26 am

Post by mith »

As some of you are aware, I have been planning some changes to Queue for some time.

By the end of the day, I will hopefully have the new guidelines written up and on the wiki. The changes will not go into place immediately; it will take some time to sort out some organizational concerns. My goal is to have all this sorted out within one month.

Until the wiki updates are finished, here is a summary of the changes:

1. A new list will be added, for standard Open Setup games. Unlike most games (but like Newbie games), Moderators will not choose the setup. Instead, we will have a few setups available for players to join, and Moderators will be given games to run as they are filled.
2. Little Italy will be split into two forums (one for each type of Mini).
3. The requirements for moderators will be modified. New moderators will be able to run Open Setup and Mini Normal games. Large Theme games will require two games of experience. Moderators with a lot of experience (to be determined) will be able to apply for a third concurrent game or to run "Special" games such as Invitationals.

I will not be adding a limit to the number of games players can join at this time, but we will continue to monitor things. I would like to remind everyone however that players should only sign up for games with the intention of participating in them, and not simply to be in as many games as possible.

Where do Mini Theme games fit in the "necessary modding experience" hierarchy?

Also, was it decided to not to alter the nature of the Normal queue?

What are the two names of the split "Little Italies" going to be, just wondering?

and i have a small request.

freaktown 1 was mini regular because inhim thought it was. but it ended up considered a mini theme and freaktown 2 & 3 are mini themes too. i was just wondering if you can put freaktown 1 in the mini theme with its two brother games.

I assumed there'd be a new "Mini Regular" Queue and that everything already played or currently in play would be considered a "Mini Themed". Seemed like the simplest solution to me.

Coney Island had a nice ring to it, when we discussed this before...

I don't believe we need a new queue at all -- there's already two of them. I believe this is an addition of a
forum
. Is that correct, mith?

My understanding is that there will be a new forum with a new queue. So the queue threads will be:
Normal Game (large, Moderators only)
Mini Themed
Mini Regular
Open Setup
Newbie
Large Theme (Moderators only)

Mith will moderate/oversee the Open Setup queue during implementation to ensure that things run smoothly at some point. I would assume that he will pass moderation duties off to someone else once things have settled down.

If the mini theme forum is going to be Coney Island, the Open games forum should be Flushing Meadows. But I strongly prefer forum names that are less obscure; maybe Chicago for the open games.

In other news, I've started a discussion on what standard open setups to choose here.

Glork, of course.

I was focused on #2 -- mini games -- which I thought was mikeburnfire's focus as well. Basically, why should every in progress/completed mini game be classified as themed? They've already been classified -- the themes will just need to be moved to their new forum home (an easy matter).

[edit: re Glork's post]That's correct, the waiting list threads will be the same plus one for Open.

Little Italy will be split into Little Italy and ? (Coney Island seems to be the leading candidate). Open games will likely go in with the Mini or Large Normals as appropriate.

Hi :D, I've signed up to run a large theme game w/ one game modding exp, so since i signed up before the change will it go through, or will I need to mod a mini or 2 before I will be able to mod it?

Similar question - I've signed up to mod a mini theme as my first modded game. Will I have to abandon that and go to the bottom of the mini regular queue?

i doint think you'll have to go to the bottom, just inserted in the appropriate list on the date you signed up for the other.
IMHO.

Games starting before August 20 will be unaffected; that includes Mini Themes and Normals that get to the top of the list and are full by then.

If you are already on the Mini Theme or Normal list, but haven't actually designed your game we'll ask you to move to Open or Mini Regular, but you won't necessarily go to the bottom of the Queue - we'll work something out based on when you signed up (what Macros said). If you are already on a list and your game has been designed and reviewed, you'll have the option of moving anyway or running the game with an experienced co-mod.

And if it's been provisionally designed, but not reviewed?

Then you've got a month to get it reviewed. Don't dilly-dally.
I replaced into Chess Mafia for 6 months, and all I got was a win and this lousy sig.

I'm not sure from what Mith said that that would be his ruling.

This is kind of a weird case -- it's a speed game with fixed choice blocks that Yosarian2, Lloyd and I were planning to co-mod. An experienced co-mod would be the fourth mod. The setup is probably not going to be too complicated, so I doubt we'd normally get someone else to review it, but I guess it can't hurt.

(It wouldn't be a disaster if I had to switch queues; it just means that particular game idea would have to be shelved for now.)
