Registration How-to (READ THIS IF YOU ARE NEW)

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Mon Jan 29, 2007 4:17 am

Post by mith »

Due to our recent problems with spam, I have turned on the admin activation option, which means all accounts must be manually activated by myself or jeep.

If you are registering a new account:

1. Fill out the registration information and hit submit. Make sure you have provided a valid email address. You may get an error message about emailer.php - ignore this message. Do not try again, your account has likely been made, and you will get the same problem the next time.

2. Send an email to me or jeep, preferably with enough information that I know you're not a bot.

3. When your account is activated, I (or jeep) will reply to your email letting you know, and you will be able to log on. If you have any further problems, just let us know. I will likely check several times a day; you should be activated within 24 hours at the most.

I think jeep will be working on the site this week, and we'll be implementing some anti-spam code soon. This is just a temporary measure in the meantime. I'm tired of dealing with all the spam. Hopefully it works right, I have some concern that the emailer problem is messing up the activation process as a whole.

I think that the e-mail issue does cause some problems. I will indeed be doing stuff this week.

We're still getting a large amount of spammers. Is the admin activaction option not engaged anymore?

Not spam posts, but I have seen new accounts made that are obviously fake, obvious because their personal info links to drug and porn websites.
