The TF2 sucking seems to be a universal thing.

I don't have LFD, but am willing to cave to the peer pressure and buy it.

Soldier isn't bad if you just go into it with the mentality of shooting at the ground or at someones feet rather than the direct hit. Playing a heavy is a good place to start if you have a good medic to follow you around.

Honestly though, try all of the classes as you go. The one that feels comfortable after the go around, stick with it for a bit. Spy is the only truly difficult class to pick up. As Umbrage said, some people are made to be spies, others (like me) are simply terrible at it.
