Now is a good time to join, if you like assembing stuff, the new mod just brought the ability to move solid blocks automatically, which opens all sorts of new possibilities.

I'll take you up on that tonight after I get home from work. I dicked around for like ten minutes last night and figured out how to make wood planks, a workbench, and a stick. That's it.

So Grimm & I have Minecraft now and we want to start playing, but I feel like jumping onto a preexisting server would be really overwhelming and might kill the experience (similar to how Chronopie mining all of the MS.net Terraria server killed my fun). So, is there an easy way for Brock & I to run a multiplayer server that's constantly up? I have no clue how to do that.

We have a modest little house with a 13x11 wheat farm out front. Mined way down in the basement and found diamond. How does one go about mining obsidian? Also what kind of stuff exists in this game line terraria...are there any world bosses or anything?

The only boss right now is the Enderdragon, but in 1.4 there will be a new boss mob called the Wither boss (or something like that).
I could not figure out how to generate obsidian. It just kept turning into stone

getting to bed now
i was able to complete my automated wheat farm and my automated sugar cane farm tonight
the reck & grimm lovenest is coming along quite nicely. i think my next project is going to be the pumpkin farm, and then I'll get to dig in the abandoned mineshaft beneath the house
should anyone wanna leave us some housewarming presents (thanks Xalxe & Maestro), walk out onto the obs deck at the vineyard spawn and you can see the house in the distance

no here's the thing
Brock & I have followed the entire maze by just clinging to the lefthand side, which, mathematically, should take you through all possible routes in the maze. We just made it back to the start.

@Claus: What's our seed number? I found a place that can find slimes on your server but I need level.dat file or a seed #.
Also... what's the reasoning behind ten people being the cap on the server? Is it the harddrive space? It might be possible for me to set up an old computer we have around here to be a dedicated server or something if that's the case. Not sure, I'd have to look into it.

Reck & Grimm's First 24 Hours of Minecraft: The Photo Album
The Melon & Pumpking Farm (aka Reck's Pride & Joy)
This is the setup when the plants are fully grown.
A lever on the righthand side of the room activates a series of sticky pistons that harvest all the crops.
Another lever turns
off
the eight sticky pistons up top, letting water rush down and push the crops forward
(still trying to figure out if there's a build I can do to stop it from destroying the stems)
The water carries all the melons & pumpkins into neat little stacks that can be picked up at the front of the room.
The Wheat Farm
Here's the basic setup...
...and there's Grimm releasing the floodgates to harvest the wheat & push it all to the front of the room!
The Sugar Cane Farm
It's not much, it only harvests about 28 sugarcane at a time.
...but pushing that button and watching them all shatter never gets old!
Grimm's Garden Dome
Grimm made a glass-enclosed dome. Good place to relax and get some peace of mind.
It even has a bench!
Nice view.
The Lovenest
Come have a sit with us in front of the fireplace!
THE NONA-OVEN
Our fiery hallway to the Pumpkin & Melon Farm (still under construction, I really just wanted lava under there )
A parting shot from the front of the house!
I'm having so much fun. I want to get our pastures/animals in order, then I'll probably work on building a library/enchanting room. Grimm & I are already working on plans to make a maze of our own, so hopefully we'll get to do that, too.

I'll take a look at that launcher.
Also if anyone with a better grasp of water physics wants to look at the pumpkin farm and try to come up with a way that the water won't destroy the stems that's be cool. I hate having to replant every time, makes me cannibalize my poor crops for seeds.

wow, duh. just dont push the crop lever again until post-water

you are too good at mazes imo imo
ALSOOOOOOOOOOOOO the library skydome is completed at the lovenest so if anyone's in the vinelands and needs to enchant, head upstairs to the glass domes and it's there
i think the next project is going to be building a railway from the spawn point to our house (or possibly just doing the Vineland Rail Station idea that UT had)
i want to start construction in Vineland to make it look more...populated...when you warp in
