I think I found the hook: It's FLOW MMO. It's Peak Perfomance: The Game. It's like a perfect round of DDR or directing a fourship into eight with no comm space to space. It's satisfying.

I think that's what this game looks like to me. Just pure satisfaction.

EDIT: I'm sold. Engineer or Warrior, Exile. Rawr.

Okay secondary point, am I the only one who thought that the coolest thing about Horde/Alliance was that they were both ambiguously good/evil. I'm really disappointed that the Dominion is antagonistically evil. I mean they had the whole good of the galaxy angle they could have run with, but in the introduction, the whole side just looks spiteful. Looks like I'm playing a gypsy.

I was not sold on the Stalker at all until the comment in the dev video about "You are Batman-Wolverine-Predator".

Thanks for your time on that Reck :D Truly appreciate it, downloading beta now but don't know what I'll get through before I go overseas.

That link...as a lore junky, THAT is what I wanted!

I've just played about 4-5 hours of Esper. Played on the dominion side out of a desire to not replay the same content on release. In playing the class I thought I'd be least likely to roll, I'm loving the shit out of it. It's a blast, and I find the LAS really interesting.

Tradeskills seem cool, will obviously have to wait for release to see how they function in the economy but there looks to be a lot more specialisation.

Dominion really gets interesting
Spoiler: up to level 10 Dominion
Lightsreach Mission is incredibly characterising. The religious side of the Dominion gives them a lot of depth and most of the quests are honourable or at least understandable (considering you've just arrived in this new place and decided to kill everything that isn't your own dudes. It's funny how some of these "evil" reasons would have fit in just fine in the good of some other MMO. Like thining numbers and stuff? That's something you'd see the good guys doing in High Fantasy. The water-speaker Pell quests are interesting and even though there are these ruthless evil people on the side, the character actually roots them out, dobs them in, and has a conscience. It's very interesting.

I think the mustache-twirling evil of the dominion is part of the joke, or at least the setup. I'm keen to see the rest of the punchline.

For anyone that's a lorebunny like me: Plenty of it. Not all quality, but a lot of it funny and (more importantly) fun. I haven't quite found anything that grabbed me like some parts of the WoW story, but it all feels...fresher? I don't feel like I've heard this story before, but I like that. When a joke does pop up, I really enjoy them. I'll try to keep up with it to field questions or talk to people about it if anyone else gets interested in it.

Combat is great, it actually makes the farming/grinding aspects really interesting. The fact that keep your LAS buttons a few short of the number of skills you have from level 6 or so onwards is an excellent design decision. You essentially get to start designing your character and playstyle that early. I find the Esper a bit annoying that my primary builder spell (telekinetic strike) is static with a cast time of 1.25 seconds. It makes it hard to solo content too high above me if I need to keep canceling my primary source of psi points to move out of the way. Both of the other casters have channels rather than cast times as their primary attack allowing them to break it off mid-cast and still get some damage out of it, and I think that would be a huge Quality of Life improvement for the Esper. Maybe this is something that goes away with later spells, or maybe it's a skill-cap thing, but it's what I'm experiencing now. I do not feel as mobile as I need to be as a squishy caster.

Epsers running two different resource systems looks great too. I can't wait to see that in min/max play.

I've got one or two more day's play in me before I head OS for the rest of the beta, so I might start one of the tank/melee classes (prob stalker) tomorrow on the Exile side and see what I think.

I'm now not settled on what exactly I want to play. It'll probably still be a tank of some sort, but it'm excited to see how different they play. Solid game, I'm keen.

I'm figuring out the Esper. Level 14 and the flow. Oh I can feel the flow.

Edit: I still tend to overpull and die crying to myself.

Esper
: I've always enjoyed mages in games and Esper is about as magey as it gets. I like that aspect of it but I also don't know how much enjoyment I'd get out of the whole "build build build finisher" system. Possibility.

Engineer
: Okay, I leveled this asshole all the way up to 25-30 because I knew I wouldn't play Engi in the main game. Now that I've experienced it though all I want to do is play Engi but I don't want to level one all over again D:

Warrior
: Very fun class but I've never done well with melee roles simply because I tend to lose track of my character in the "Ooooh, shiny!" aspect of it all.

Stalker
: Haven't played, but see Warrior.

Medic
: I apparently need to give Medic another shot because it's apparently very awesome but my limited experience with it left me feeling rather "meh". I did not like the "weak" feedback/feel of the primary weapon (oooh, I'm going to scan you! Watch out!)

Spellslinger
: I personally cannot STAND the SS resource management and the fact that their innate ability is a heavy, key part of their rotation/cooldowns. I think I'll pass on this one for now.

So right now I think I'm leaning Esper > Engineer = Medic > Warrior > Stalker > Spellslinger.
what fucking class am i going to play
(after trying them all to level 10)

Esper
- I've never played a mage class (though I started leveling one in WoW) cause I've always preferred the flexibility to fill tank/heal spots in groups. I think the esper will change my mind and get me to play it. I love the AoE, I love their Psi Points resource system. I love the way TS AoE skillshot finisher sticks to the target and carries the deeps around. It's a blast of a class.

Engineer
- This class was a lot more fun then I thought it'd be. The pets feel fairly active, though because of the way they cast, they're hard to start a fight with (sometimes won't find a target). Biggest thing in this class' favour is how powerful but uncontrolled the gun feels. Oh man does it feel like you're pushing shotgun shells downrange. Rawr.

Stalker
- Eh. Never really my kind of class. I actually find it a little difficult to be super mobile while clicking keys like this game requires. I really want to play more because stalker tank looks really fucking cool. Their support/utility tanks will have some AWESOME tricks up their sleeves, which I'm really interested to see. But overall they'll be the sluts of PvP. We all know it. I will probably be tanking with something else, and I don't like their DPS style as much as others, so I doubt I'll roll one. Edit: I didn't do it enough justice when I wrote this the first time. False retreat is FUN. Mobility spells are FUN on this class.

Warrior
- Reck, you're entirely right. Warriors feel fantastic! Bulky, strong. The sword designs look really impressive and even level 2 swords were really beautiful, and destructive looking. I definitely want to roll one up, and TBH I'm really very excited about the aesthetic of 2h tanking again. I love the "barbarian" feel tanking a boss with this big greatsword instead of having to use a 1h+shield.

Medic
- I disagree almost entirely about the feedback. At least my little Chua had a really good feel and I think it's all about the sparkley electrics through the telegraph. I didn't mind the feel of the class at all, except that they felt weak. Their damage is much lower through the levels that I played. Look, they might be the best healers in the world, but they feel like leveling a priest in WoW, just slower than others. Their resource system is okay, burst focused, I guess, and it seems to favour going fight to fight, rather than gathering up hordes and slaying them with AoE (which I really enjoyed on my Esper). Not for me.

Spellslinger
- Okay, not a bad class at all, but I find the resource system being used by the innate to be a little weird. I feel like they're such as deviation in playstyle from all the others which is so cool. However, I feel like it's something that I have to manage all the time, because it's such a big part of the character's burst. Does feel incredibly mobile and a lot of fun. I think these guys will be one of the most popular classes in the game.

Esper and Warrior mains, in all probability. But I'll probably level the stalker to try to convince myself otherwise.

EDIT2: Aurin bore me, I'm disappointed by the design of the Granok female, and the Chua are a lot more fun and adorable and awesome than I thought they'd be. If I could make one a warrior, I so would.

Watching the medic livestream now (though...not live, I guess) and the gameplay looks really fun. Maybe this is one of those "hits its stride at level X" classes.

Regarding server and the like, I'll probably stay with an oceanic. sorry guys but it's not viable for me to be on an almost empty server 80% of my playtimes just so I can do a few runs with you.

There are NA servers tagged as Oceanic. It'll be a community migration thing, but the server will still be remote.

Nope. Add in their sub-par dps and less effective soloing, and I very much doubt it. That said, just a few tweaks and we'll see that change. They seem to have some great strengths.

Ok almost home to start this. Still haven't decided on warrior or engineer but it will likely be engineer.

Played a warrior and a pally through WoW, so I guess I'm just that guy. Warrior utility does look sex though.

Just ran three dungeons (two dungeons, one twice). I tanked two of them and DPSed one and jesus christ I love this game.

My best advice is guild run. Always guild run.

Why did you stop playing?

I stopped because levelling was a grind and tanking wasn't fun. Because level 30 pugs, ya know.

Warrior, yeah. But the problem was people would just stand in stupid too much so while I'd be tanking to the best of my ability, my healers would be trying to cover the chunked deeps engi or whatever.

I really enjoyed doing guild runs of dungeons...I might try playing again, see how the guild is.

Honestly, yeah you can face tank most of the attacks early on, especially if you're a tankier class. However, that's learning curve dungeons are glorious and require so much dodging, and the bigger levels
