exactly why I'm hesitant to fulfill my promise to Iecerint and try out this game. The vitriolic nature of it's players would probably tear me down. Plus I think I'd be really bad, which would only encourage said behavior.

and pickem, while i saw the altercations between Panzer and Saki I didn't do anything about it. While it was technically abusive behavior you're right in saying it didn't really affect me, especially since I was really only skimming the thread anyway.

Wow! I played my first Co-Op vs. AI! How exhilarating!

I played as Ashe so I went to bottom lane like was recommended but someone had chosen Jinx and was also there...so I guess I was overkill

yeah. the tutorial was like, "secondary objective: go into the woods and kill those wolves and wraiths " and I was like "OK" and then that was like the most lopsided fight in the whole tutorial.

I haven't actually died once yet so. I heard that was an OK thing in this thread so I've been avoiding it.

I played two games this morning with Lux. The first I "supported" (? lol) with someone on bottom and I did fairly well, but then in the second game team picking got all messed up and I ended up topping with her, lol. I was pretty much useless. I really like to play Lux though. Her powers are super intriguing.

um anyway. I've played:

Ashe - I played my first CoopvsAI game with Ashe and I think actually did fairly well in that one. I mostly use volley and the R-special-skill, the other two are weirdly passive and I have trouble knowing when to use those favorably. The second game was Beginner AI and I didn't do so well, maybe because I was the only one in the bottom lane for most of it but I don't know.

Lux - In my first game someone didn't play Lux too well, and I really was intrigued by the whole light lore so I chose her twice (in between the two Ashe games). I feel like I have a better scope of when to use her abilities, maybe not the Q one, but the other three are pretty neat. Unfortunately I haven't used her correctly I guess; like I said my first game was in the bottom lane with someone else (Master Yi maybe? I don't know or remember) and I did OK with that but the second game I went to the top lane with her and that was pretty interesting. I think I held my own but I didn't really accomplish much of anything other than stopping that lane.

Garen - the last game I played was with garen because the other players were choosing mid/bottom laners according to chat and I figured that's the one I should probably try out. I actually don't really care for that close-up melee in this game as I felt as I was retreating a lot to heal and stuff. I like his spinning skill though, but like Ashe I don't know what to do with the other three skills. I'd say in this game I was as bad as if not worse than the second Lux game.

And I know that you get gold if your the last to hit a minion or something before it dies, but otherwise I don't know anything about that.

PEDIT: but like, the map is flipped in such a way for the other team that, if both teams are using current meta, it'll be "top" vs. "top" and "bot" vs. "bot"?

I love playing Lux. All her abilities are so clear as to what they do and when to use them. Even if I'm still not the best player on the team, I feel like I'm helping.

Even so, about a quarter of the time right now I either a) hit the wrong ability or b) shoot it in the wrong direction, especially since I"m not used to accounting for movement

I think it's useful to get to know champions though. I don't want to detriment anyone else's games until I actually understand what I'm doing. Like when champion pick is going on I have to slowly look at what everyone else has picked so far and determine what is needed because I'm not familiar with the champions in the slightest.

And yeah I see the reduced returns thing, but you have to play a certain amount of minutes which is quite a few games for me, and the Intro AI benefits don't reduce until you reach level 10.

I just have so much trouble with the items part. It's just kind of there when I die or recall and I basically buy whatever I can afford because I feel like I can't waste time. I mean I now know that Guardian Angel was a horrid choice but I recognized it from Lux's champion spotlight as a "good thing".

I want to apologize for being so whiny. Having thought silently about it for a few minutes (lol), I realized that I was just posting here to garner pity and maybe even a little hope that someone would be stereotypically LoL mean and poke fun at my screenshot. I know, pretty terrible.

But I just think LoL is one of those things I want to be naturally good at but I'm not, and those sorts of things--like knitting--frustrate me and get me really angry and down. I guess I just feel that if I can barely handle the bots labeled "beginner", how will I ever stand a chance against real people, given all the variables? It also doesn't help that I still feel like I'm having fun, but I"m just not doing a good job gamewise.

Anyway I don't know if this makes a difference but most of the time I was bottom-laning against Lux and Miss Fortune? Which felt mostly impossible because while I love playing as Lux all the things I love about her are what make her terrible to play against, and Miss Fortune seems just as deadly. Also I played as Ashe, whose abilities I still don't really get. Like, the only truly damaging abilities are Q and W, W is great but Q is passive and weird, R is supposed to be good but I never feel like it does much damage, and E is basically some sort of scouting shot and a passive gold multiplier? I just don't know. And I guess the x/x/x stats aren't everything, but they seemed so bad this time around that it affected me. :/

Ugh. I guess this sounds no less whiny and super more diatribe-y. Sorry. :/

But like...you say all these "roles" like ADC, support, etc...why don't other people seem to cling to them very tightly? Like at the beginning of this game I was very solidly alone in bottom lane. Sure other people came and helped at times but I didn't ever seem to have the "support" thingamabob; instead it was like three people in the mid lane.

Also what does CS mean? I looked at some tutorials about using custom games to learn how to last hit all the minions and that kept coming up.

Also...I totally would've given Lux boots.

I tried Lissandra and Ryze tonight. Both I was initially sort of uncomfortable with their abilities but I think I got the hang of them (I don't really know how to use Ryze's ultimate but it all worked out).

I also tried to be wiser in my item purchaisng, but I don't know if it was successful.

Anyway I'm level 6 now so if I want to try a variet of champions should I ARAM?

Well as a very experienced player who has played ryze once, you need something with range. Even if you're pretty strong melee-wise, his w can bind you and that allows him to get away.

How do you guys not have trouble with items? As someone just starting out it feels like there are so many to choose from and in a RTS it makes me very frantic and panicky when I'm trying to choose the right one, which explains my terrible decisions tonight. :/

EDIT: also I apologize for not really giving any feedback. I think it was because most of the time I felt dumbstruck and couldn't really say much more than "OK" as I tried to do whatever I was told :/

Sion was interesting and of my own choice but Vi was because I hit random and I hated it. I don't really like when all the abilities have a single target or are passive. :/ I like Sivir though.

And yeah I was kind of working on masteries and item sets right when you asked to play, so I like had the page up with some recommendations but I'm too afraid to leave the actual game window (I don't really do Alt+Tab much at all even outside of LoL or gaming or anything)

I really like Sivir. I feel like I can use all of her abilities appropriately. ANd I even have a little cheat sheet for items, but I still have trouble getting enough gold to get more than two or three of them.

I've found that the E is pretty situational. Like I only use it when I predicted Ashe was going to fire something at me.

you steal enemy buff at lv 1

ashe is the best adc. you should start with 21/9/0 full ad runes and a dorans blade then run to the junglers buff. place a trinket over the wall and use a critical shot to take the buff and volley to level up to level 2 from the small minions. from there run to the mid lane bush and wait for the champions to start fighting. run out of the bush and ignite critical shot volley and frost shot for an easy first blood. with the changes it makes it easy to get first blood and the junglers first buff and snowball to victory

This is why I don't think I'll ever get good at this game, because I don't think I have the control and focus to be that strategic.

OK STARTING OVER FRESH, but I plan to play nothing but Co-Op vs. AI because I'm a mr. wuss-wuss. New summoner name is Le Chevre. Lamely recording my games as well, just 'cause.

GAME 1: Played as Lux on Beginner, one of my faves from a time ago. I was in mid lane and I did fairly well but I didn't buy any items oopsies. That's still going to be a problem of mine, I can tell.

GAME 2: Played as Kha'Zix on Beginner, kinda went on not knowing anything about the champion which made it interesting. I didn't understand the Evolve mechanic until it happened in game, but that was kind of cool. I had trouble using the leap and ended up relying more on spikes and such.

GAME 3: Played as Shyvana on Beginner. I had played her before I think, but wow, I actually kind of love her? Like Lux I feel like I ~get~ how to use all of her abilities. And I also love that abilities are restricted to just cooldowns rather than having to worry about mana. BUT OH YEAH two on our team dced right away so it was 3 v. 5 from the get go, each of us took a lane and we actually won pretty handily, which made me feel good.

GAME 4: Played as Varus on Beginner. It wasn't anything special. I don't think I really care for his abilities.

GAME 5: Played as Lissandra on Beginner. I was all over the map, which was fun, and I got a really good grasp of how to chain Lissandra's abilities to take down waves of minions. Her passive seemed really underwhelming at first but stacked with mana-boosting items it started a Shyvana-esque situation where I pretty much just had to wait for cooldowns.

And then I played Ryze which was TURRIBLE because I was in mid lane with a weirdly inept Amumu for a while and then our bot lane was getting pushed back very far so I pushed it all the way back until we had all three inhibitors destroyed and won handily
