people can do what they want but if you want decent performance you need to follow guidelines
you can hammer a nail with the butt end all you want it's not going to do much better than to use the end with the hammer head on it

the crit is only important 'cause it gets your shiv-IE crit to 100%
if you get triforce later (and some people do) then it's not a problem whether you hhave crit runes or no

but you really need the lifesteal runes

honestly Fiora/Quinn pulls me more wins than other champions in solo queue
they do things that other champions can't
like
win lane very very early abusing high flat AD damage combined with armor pen runes
then use that advantage to snowball hard and fast and carry a game
sure, the counterplay is obvious
build a tidbit tanky and bring 1-2 hard cc and just squash the poor thing when it comes to try to hurt you
but guess what
the enemy team never counterplays you
especially the champions that you aren't laning against

also they're not at all popular champions and because of it you are assured two things
a) they won't change
b) they won't ever be banned/taken away from you

you can drool over Lucian or Maokai or Alistar all you want in the end it's just Riot's way of exploiting FotM to make people buy the world cup skin package and will be nerfed going into s4

Brutalizer>Hydra>Last Whisper>Youmuus is my usual build path
You can vary from it as much as you want (e.g. vamp scepter over brutalizer for a harder lane)
but I highly recommend getting hydra/youmuu/lw for core
grabbing hydra first as your first big item, always

Boots you can go for Mercs or Ionians, depending on your situation
I personally prefer Ionians since CDR on everything is nice because you can kill stuff so much better with CDR
Shoot for mercs most of the time since you aren't a "clownfucker" like me

You eat Gangplank for breakfast
and Pantheon will mercilessly grind your face into the floor as he sticks your spear in you

Everything else is outplayable.

You shit on any sort of melee mid (Kassadin/Zed/Talon/Fizz/the rare Galio, etc)
oh, and Yasuo
you could be bronze 5 first time fiora and beat a yasuo effortlessly

And with a little bit of fingerwork you can beat the mage mids easily
(they're squishier than you think)

Malphite/Jax/and maybe Tryndamere might give you trouble
grab a 400g mr thing against malphite and build sustain and just farm until 6 and watch for ganks
if jax's counterstrike is down you can go ham on his ass but don't if it isn't
do not underestimate tryn's 35% crit chance with a full fury bar

Renekton's an easy lane if you can follow his dash away from you after he does his w-q thing on you and continue trading
Try to freeze lane against a Nasus after you pressure him very early (levels 1-2)
Riven's a piece of cake if you know her cooldowns well (her CDs have 8-9s, remember that) and very very easy to beat after 6

Yes. It's also called 'free rotation,' these ten free champions change every week or so.
You can play them in all other game modes minus solo queue. (You can play free rotation in 5v5 ranked team but not in solo queue, like wtf.)

I don't know if it's just me but I tend to think of top as a huuuge lane where two people brawl it out.

Bottom has a somewhat medium sized lane with two large bushes that you can actually play from.

The side that you're on (Purple/Blue or top/bottom side of map if you're me and can never remember which side is blue/purple)

But it really shouldn't matter at any point pre-20. Go where you please

CS = Creep Score ('creep' is a DotA term) = # of minions killed.
"don't cs" = "don't last hit minions"
more like "just don't hit minions ever"

The 'roles' are pretty much nonexistent where you're at, don't bother with them.

I really think defensive items are somewhat wasteful to a beginner who's playing a damage dealer. Guardian Angel is useless if you die in a situation that's just going to get you killed again after the item activates. Banshee's isn't for someone who doesn't know what kind of abilities the enemies have. Visage offers no protection against turrets. Randuin's requires using an active and being close to someone. Warmogs is intuitive.
Buy Warmog's / Randuins if you really have to.

finish berserker's greaves if you have to b without gold (only after a pickaxe/bf sword though)

if you really can't finish any items, just grab a few health pots (max 3.) and head back to lane

Also take teleport over heal if your problem is that you're not backing to fountain with low health because you think it's a waste

Ashe is the best adc. You should start with 21/9/0 full ad runes and a dorans blade then run to the junglers buff. Place a trinket over the wall and use a critical shot to take the buff and volley to level up to level 2 from the small minions. From there run to the mid lane bush and wait for the champions to start fighting. Run out of the bush and ignite critical shot volley and frost shot for an easy first blood. With the changes it makes it easy to get first blood and the junglers first buff and snowball to victory.

[Longsword] + [3 Potions] -> The 10 AD helps when you have no runes/masteries, and you also have three pots to fall back on.

next item set goal (early/mid game core)
[2x Dorans Blade] + [Vampiric Scepter] + [Boots of Speed (325g boots)] -> A lot of early game sustain traded for damage. ("sustain" = ability to keep your health up while laning). Autoattack minions to fill up hp. Pick up pots whenever needed. 325g boots gives you enough movespeed to get by in lane, and upgrade from 325g boots to Zerkers (675g for the upgrade) isn't worth it until you get some flat AD.

next item set goal (mid/late game core)
Looks like this: [Infinity Edge] + [Statikk Shiv/Blade of the Ruined King]
Infinity Edge should always come first, picking up the B.F. Sword and Pickaxe before the Cloak.

If you want to just facetank damage, you probably shouldn't play any champion that doesn't have infinite built in sustain and doesn't care about getting ahead in lane. A la maokai and cho'gath.

Literally the only two champions that have this.

you have a dedicated 5 men team?

If I 'main' a role, I feel more confident about playing the role.
Which in turn makes my teammates (be it normals, ranked, or 5s) more comfortable about me playing.
And overall chance of victory goes up.

Used to be a wierd-ass variant of Gangplank that did amazing in KR soloqueue dubbed "Zeusplank" (back in Season Two? I think)

You build on-hit items (Wit's End? I think) ->>> now you can build Iceborn Gauntlet / Statikk (but they didn't exist back then)
And build very tanky

You use his passive DoT+slow and whatever on-hit items you have to get consistent insanely annoying poke while sustaining infinitely with W.

It's a very lane-oriented thing.

It's not that strong anymore in a meta where a) gp's passive dot / on-hit items don't hurt that much and b) top laners can't start hypercarrying games after winning their lane WITH a tanky on-hit variant like this one.

Top laners can carry (Riven/Yasuo/Zed and mayyybe Jayce come to mind) but at a huge risk in lane so...

I don't think a more dangerous jungle would be any challenge for her.

I won't say anything about her pre-6 ganks though, I haven't played her recently.
You can't exactly do the season three exhaust-smite sejuani anymore.
