Summary

PCs visit Lunagard residence, but it seems that Halle isn't there. The next day, PCs get a message notifying them that Pinay has the artificial legs ready for Marion. PCs head over to his shop, but Pinay is acting funny. Finding this suspicious, Who teleports through the wall and finds Gundabog and the police ready to ambush them. Who goes invisible and warns the party, and a fight breaks out. During the fight, Avina gets grappled by bunch of police guards, and Gundabog gets ready to stab her with a blackened arrow, murmuring something about sweet revenge. Kat pulls Avina out of the grapple, and Avina rushes to the bag of holding and pulls out Marion. Gundabog freezes and mutters, "Marion.... alive? but that's impossible....", then turns to Pinay angrily. Gundabog's features change into Halle's as she asks Pinay what he has done. It turns out that Pinay has been blackmailed into setting a trap for Marion, and the building is about to blow.

Halle bluffs and says that whoever trying to kill Marion will think of Pinay as expendable, and that the potion he just drank will not protect him against the explosion. Pinay buys into this and becomes angry. He tells Marion to get under the bed as the building blows. He has a safe spot set up there (using rope trick) in case he was ever attacked. Avina also dives under the bed, and the building blows up. Everyone survives. No Two angrily walks up to Pinay and attempt to end his life, but Kat pushed him away before he could do so. Halle suggests that they regroup back at the Lunagard residence, and PCs agree.

A tearful reunion between the changeling sisters ensue at Lunagard house. Halle asks Avina whether she will expose her, and Avina says no. Halle then tells the group that while she's grateful that they saved Marion from death, she cannot assist them openly against Tuhin, since their brother is still on his ship. However, it would be a huge blow to Tuhin's forces if they were to get rid of Izzy, his top assassin and right hand man. Halle has gathered information and knows the Izzy is planning to assassinate someone at Rainsberg Ball in few days. Only place high enough in the city to grant uninterrupted line of sight to the Rainsberg Ballroom is at the lighthouse, and that's where Halle predicts Izzy will be. Halle suggests that the PCs split up into two groups, one ready at lighthouse, and the other at the dance, in case Izzy decides to come to the dance personally to deal with his target.

I'm going to encourage you guys to come up with a plan and not just walk in hoping to casually beat Izzy in a 1v2 or something.

Izzy is Tuhin's top assassin, and probably the most dangerous man in this city. You guys will probably get the jump on him thanks to Halle's information, but next session can trivially end with a TPK if you guys aren't careful.

You guys have time and money to prepare yourselves, and I suggest you guys make the best of it.

Summary of Christmas One-off

Party = Human Monk, Human Monk, Dwarf Ranger, Dwarf Barbarian/Ranger, Halfling Bard

The party went down the hallway past the ominous looking statues, deeper into the tomb of Mira. They found a spell circle, a set of glyphs on the floor. The bard realized that it was what the ancient tomb workers used to protect the tomb. It was currently inactive, but if something set it off, it would warn the denizens of the tomb of intruders. While they were examining, a number of lightning-using bats dropped down from the ceiling. Party chopped through them quickly, but more and more of them appeared from the corridors around them. The monk got separated, and got zapped into negatives. Fortunately, their Barbarian/Ranger was highly optimized to chop down small and large beasts alike, and he cleared the airspace fast enough for the bard to go stabilize the dying monk.

They found armories. Someone had already took the weapons from them. They traveled down and discovered the bodies of the people they were supposed to rescue. They dragged the bodies out and travel deeper into the tomb, where they fought off multiple skeleton archers and zombies. The newer players panicked and ran, but the Barbarian/Ranger and the Bard tank and spanked their way through the minions and chopped them down. At this juncture, they discovered the source of the negative energy they've been tasked to find, and realized that they needed to kill whatever the creature that opened the rift to close the portal. They travel further and fight off some fire elementals. Then they discover a library, where they realized how to get to the sarcophagus of Mira. They set the statues straight, and they head into the tomb, only to have the demon follow them in and kill Mira. The demon melted the barbarian's weapons, but the monk managed to punch out the demon before his fists melted and banish it back to the abyss where it came from.

tl dr. Party was composed of bunch of newbies at first, but a powergamer showed up to carry their heavy asses with his double dwarven waraxe rhino hide charge build, along with a selfless girl who picked a Bard healbot to fill every other role needed by the party and help the party survive. Newbies shit their pants while the powergamer chopped shit down and bard kept them alive. Classic tank and spank all the way to the endgame.

Few things:

Just because a random NPC said it was a good idea doesn't mean split party is a good idea. It's the most common way PCs die.
Dim. door off a scroll can only take the caster and 2 other people.
There is a direct, uninterrupted line of sight between the Ball and the Lighthouse. They are about 1000 ft apart.
The Ball and the hill it's on are Rainsberg property; the Lighthouse is city-owned.
All of the police captains were invited to the Ball. Gundabog declined. Cedar Islow is going. Jin has not decided.
Izzy is targeting someone at the Ball. Halle does not know who.

low-light vision doubles that, but the lighthouse is 1000ft away

Summary

Lor convinced Jin to take her to the ball. The dance people (Lor, Avina, Kel) went and bought themselves nice looking tuxes and dresses. The airborne division (No Two, Kat, karl) hid out in the top floor of the lighthouse.

The Ball started. People danced to the brilliant music and the beautiful night sky. Victoria was kinda miffed at having to dance centerstage with Captain Islow, but she wasn't too unhappy, considering that she had her childhood friend, James, as their lead violinist for their phantom orchestra.

Middle of the dance, a spell circle appeared, and a chain devil stepped through the planar rift. Islow immediately told everyone that he can take care of it, and charged in, only to be thoroughly mangled by the chain devil. Lor and Avina managed to destroy all of the activated chains, forcing the chain devil's summoning to dismiss, but not before it tore apart Islow's arms.

Immediately after the Islow got wrecked, Izzy dimension doored into the lighthouse...... into the waiting hands of the PCs. No Two alarmed Avina immediately, before using rooting Izzy. Desperate Izzy called for help, and a storm elemental named Sariel answered his call, but it was too late. Izzy's position got revealed by glitterdust, and Karl's double arrow crit with high damage dice rolls sealed his fate. Kat took out the storm elemental shortly afterwards.

Summary

Avina jumped out of the lighthouse window and floated down via her ring of feather fall, and immediately made way for Rainsberg Ballroom. Rest of the party looted Izzy's body for lots of good stuff. Avina returned to find a note next to Victoria, who was crying on the dance floor. Apparently, James had confessed to planning and killing Cpt. Islow in that note, and he fled afterwards. People left the ballroom after awhile, and Avina's party rejoined her and begin to search the ballroom for clues, when Halle arrived with some bad news.

Halle has been smuggling in dinosaurs into Las Verisa warehouses under Tuhin's orders. She ordered her underlings to smuggle in narcotics to keep the dinosaurs sedated, but her head underling, same James the violinist, had just threatened her with releasing her true identity to the public. Halle fears that James has removed the narcotics from the dinosaurs and make them go on a rampage at the docks, and warns the PCs to go after him.

PCs arrive at the docks, and find two not very pleasant sailors on guard duty. Karl and Lor kills them, but not before one of them raises alert by lighting a flare. The PCs quickly burst into the warehouse to find James. They take him down, but dinosaurs, who are now fully awake, begin to rampage across the docks.

PCs take care of the couple raptors in the room right away, but hears screams outside. Avina rushes out, only to see a limbless sailor gets violently thrown through the door into the sea by a pair of gigantic megaraptors. She begins to burn through her mirror image spells while yelling for help. Her party responds by attacking the dinosaurs. No Two manages to land a critical stinking cloud spell to disable them, giving the party time to inflict enough damage to the megaraptors and take them down. The other dinosaurs are taken down by Cpt. Gundabog and his men.

PCs return to Lunagard House with James in tow. James explains that he did everything he did to get rich, in order to be not shamed to call Victoria his peer. They are interrupted by Halle, who has put together a new plan to save his brother. She is going to let Tuhin know that the preparations are complete, and that he should invade Las Verisa as soon as possible. When he invades, PCs are going to attack Tuhin's flagship, Nightsail, and hopefully kill Tuhin and rescue Gray.

Next week's session is going to be the finale of Act 2, where PCs face off against the infamous pirate lord, Tuhin.

It's going to be the most difficult encounter of this Act, so best be prepared.

Although, last time I said those words, Izzy got wiped in 2 turns without being able to do anything...

Summary

Trap was set. Halle immediately sent word to Tuhin that the preparations were complete, and he should immediately invade Las Verisa. Meanwhile, PCs made preparations for the upcoming battle.

The invading pirates were greeted by Cpt. Gundabog. Gundabog ANGRY, GUNDABOG SMASHES PUNY PIRATES.

Captain Gundabog began murdering the pirates en masse, while the PCs dimension door'd onto Tuhin's ship. There, they began to chop through the pirate raiders, and managed to find Gray, through detect magic. Eventually, Tuhin arrived with more men, but the PCs trapped the pirates from coming above decks, and laid down the spells on Tuhin to make him run for the hills. Tuhin vanished under the ship, and returned with a giant water creature, with Gray at its core. However, the PCs were able to come ahead and achieve victory.

Gray was saved by Karl's octupus friend. He was gasping for air, since the Oceanic Heart was shattered in their fight against the pirate lord. Avina immediately took him to the nearby cleric and paid for water breathing spells to keep him alive. Rest of the party looted the ship and became rich.

Because wizards can afford to prepare a set of anti-sorcerer spells for the day, but sorcerers can't build their spells known list to counter wizards without seriously gimping themselves in everything else.

HP looks fine.

Current xp should be at 28000.

Base saves should be at Fort +2, Ref +2, Will +6, not misc mod.

Leadership feat is banned. Feats look fine otherwise.

Skills look fine.

I would recommend talking to your party members for some cash and upgrade your gear a bit.

Greetings, players.

Act 3 will progress slightly differently than before. Notably, you will notice that your XP gain rate will be dramatically reduced. Welcome to "high end" of D&D.

There will be an emphasis in making individual decisions about what your character will do in a given "time slot". You will be free to move as a group/split party/duo/solo, but XP gain will be shared across the board at the end of it.

Please be smart about allocating party resources. There is safety in numbers, but certain events might be missed (and most likely be resolved against you) if you guys refuse to take risks at all.

I just hate it more when DMs play teletubbies with their PCs though.

If your character sucks or if you seriously misplayed something, you deserve to be on the ground, unconscious and bleeding at -9.

And to be honest, because edition 3.5 requires so much reading and system mastery to build a legit character, most people's first or second attempts at their characters are not gonna make it.

Here are some comments.

If you're going to use shield as a weapon, get shield spikes.

Trying to attack with both a weapon and a shield is generally ineffective. I would recommend dropping the weapon entirely, and just use your shield as your main weapon.

Since you have your shield out all the time, there is no point in getting Quick Draw. Pick Iron Will or Great Fortitude instead.

Shield Charge kinda sucks. Only reason why you get it is because it's required for Shield Slam and Shield Slam is amazing. I think you should give up Active Shield Defense and pick up Shield Slam. Notice that when you charge, you can use Shield Slam and Shield Charge simultaneously.

Active Shield Defense is bad. You don't want to fight defensively since your attack roll is not that good. You don't want to use total defense at all. Your AC is high already. You should be Shield Slamming every turn.

Shield Ward is actually pretty good. I would recommend it for your lv 9 feat if you can't think of what to get.

Summary

Party groups up with two new additions, and boards a ferry run by a jolly old man named Cpt Claus, and his trusty deckhand, Lloyd. It is the only operating ferry between the island and the mainland. PCs arrive and meet Aaron the Butler, and Serria Lunagard. They exchange greetings. Serria says that she is going to stay and wait for her sister's arrival. Aaron leads them down through the woods to the mansion. There is a fork in the road, one which leads across the bridge deeper into the woods. Aaron explains that it leads to an abandoned mansion, and to stay away from it.

They arrive at the Lunagard mansion eventually. All except Avina are escorted to the guest house, serviced by a little girl maid named Alice. They also run into Ether Liridian, a pianist and a scholar. They eat brunch and half of them head out into the trees to investigate the abandoned mansion. They run into some unusually large wolves and Lor almost gets eaten, but they manage.

Avina runs into her aunt, Julia, and her eldest son, Elliot, and his fiance, Primrose Everley. Julia mocks her weapon and trips Primrose intentionally before leaving. Elliot apologizes on her behalf and he and Primrose leaves to get some fresh air. Avina also runs into William, Julia's second son. He greets them and walks back into his room.

Aaron the butler informs her that dinner plans have been cancelled, because the meat set out has gone bad. Avina and friends offer to help, but Aaron says that Rook is taking care of it. To learn more about what is going on, Avina and co. goes to the guest house and talk to Alice. They learn that Nolan Lunagard was killed in a hunting expedition near a river bank, according to his friend, Lord Mycon, who was on the hunting trip with him at the time.

You should write macros for all touch channel spells, and for when you quick cast and channel at the same time. (a.k.a. "dual-cast" or "channel and a bonus shocking grasp")

You might also want to write a macro for normal attack, in case you're attacking and you ran out of spells or something.

Also, you should consider fighting defensively. (and writing a macro for it)

It simply means when you attack, you voluntarily take a -4 to your attack rolls, and gain +3 AC for that turn. You can use this whenever you are attacking in melee. (whether you attack normally, channel, cast shocking grasp, etc)

You'll have spring attack at lv 9, which is next level.

It lets you split up your move actions before and after you attack, so you can dash in and out of melee range. (this is useful because enemies bruisers tend to have full attacks which restricts them to a 5ft steps only)

It doesn't require a new macro, since the attack roll you make is no different than usual.

Summary

Avina and Ether goes to the docks to visit Serria, and ask for her permission to investigate the East Wing. Serria looks unconvinced, but the PCs eventually get her permission. The other group in the woods travel deeper into the woods, and encounter a dire bear that is unnaturally large. They take it down and head back for dinner, and meet Avina and Ether on the way. Dinner is delicious.

The Song family arrives, with Serria in tow. Serria is busily conversing with Michelle. Ether and Avina meet Michelle, Rodrick, and Maryjane Song. Rodrick heads over to the guest house and asks for hunters to join him in a small hunting expedition, along with his wife and daughter. After seeing Karl's skills with a bow, Rodrick asks him to join him in the hunting expedition tomorrow. He pulls him aside and tells him that he has managed to smuggle in an exotic anaconda in a bag of holding. He asks him to keep it a secret from the maids and the servants. Karl agrees, but eventually tells the PCs after a bit of "friendly conversation". The PCs panic and tells Karl that there is strange magic in the island, making all the animals unnaturally big. For sake of Maryjane's safety, Karl tries to warn Rodrick, but is stopped by Aaron the butler. Karl does send him a written warning.

Lot of rain and thunderstorm during the night. Avina wakes up to find a Light Blue Doll outside her window. It is decently sized, and it has a note that says:

No one returns alive from the mansion in the woods.

The doll also has engravings on it that said:

Do broken souls still go to heaven? Do they go at least get to go to hell?

They took it outside and shot it, and a small gem fell out. The gem was found to contain a fragment of a soul, which they couldn't identify. Meanwhile, Karl is woken up by Rodrick, who is eager for his hunting trip. He received the warning, but he thinks he can still handle it. The plan is for Karl and Rodrick to start downstream and head up, while Michelle and Maryjane start upstream and heads down. Snake is loosed in the river somewhere. Karl warns his party before heading out. The party groups up and begins to follow into the woods.

Karl and Rodrick see a smoke coming from the city of Las Verisa, but they don't mind it. They reach the bridge, where they discover an overturned ferry, and body of Cpt Claus. Two set of footprints lead away from the vessel, one of them barefeet. They track upstream, and find Michelle nailed to a tree by her arm, and her other hand's bow fingers were severed. She's given a healing potion, and she explains that a man wielding large number of knives came out of the woods and attacked. He severed the bowstring, and cut her up, before taking away Maryjane. Rodrick become enraged and says that he will track down those who did this to his family. He asks Karl to take Michelle back to the mansion, and see Serria. Karl runs to the mansion as fast as he can, and Serria sews back Michelle's fingers back. Serria asks where the attackers went, to which Karl answered upstream. Serria becomes pale faced and leaves.

Karl runs out to follow Rodrick.

Players, I'm going to earnestly ask you guys not to scorn at Who (or anyone else) for going on solo adventures.

I know it has its downsides, but it is something I decided as a DM to allow in this campaign to contribute to the verisimilitude of our sessions, and I don't want to see anyone discouraged out-of-character by his or her peers from exercising this option.

Kat, Lor, and Seline's group follows the road down to the fork (downstream), and they find the upturned ferry with the signs of a body being dragged out of the river, and then some time afterwards, it was dragged back in underwater.

We should have enough time to get through all of this in the reduced time we have.

Summary of Who's solo adventure:

Who casts reduce person and invisibility on himself, and begin to fly down the river starting from very upstream. He is searching for a giant snake, but is surprised to see a burly shirtless man carrying around a little girl coming up the riverbank. Who recognizes the girl as Maryjane, but does not recognize the man. He casts Haste, and flies down to touch Maryjane, before casting Dimension Door straight up into the air with her. The man does not seem to notice him, but as he casts the spell, Who feels a sharp pain at his back. He grits through the pain and completes the spell. His load is terrible since he was sized Tiny, so he cannot hold on to Maryjane. He stuffs her inside the bag of holding, and remembers to keep the bag open to let air in. He falters a bit, checks his injury, and realizes that he was shot by a poisoned crossbow dart. He rolls fantastic on his fort saves, and fly back to the mansion, and returns Maryjane to her mother.

Who identifies the poison as a similar one that drows and thugs use. It causes unconciousness, which would have been quite bad as he would have landed in middle of the woods unconscious while flying, and no matter how much Maryjane tried, he would have stayed asleep and been probably eaten along with Maryjane by wolves or whatever. Who asked Michelle what happened. She reported just one attacker, but the man who was carrying Maryjane did not react when Who swooped down for his aerial rescue. Who asks for Serria, but she has hurriedly left somewhere after conversing with Karl. He begin to fly back upstream.

You instead glide down gently into the peaceful and harmless woods, where you sleep for few hours, wake up, and casually stroll back to the Lunagard mansion, with Maryjane in hand!

I agree that burning the trollshape after the primary fort save would have been the optimal play, but it didn't matter in the end.

Summary

Lor, Seline, and kat travel down to the fork, where they ran into the beached ferry, with tracks of a body being dragged out from underwater, then dragged back. Lor walked near to investigate, a giant snake grabbed her into underwater. Lor begin to get squashed and flattened before being swallowed, but Seline managed to burst the snake open with her spells and rescue Lor. They also found the half-eaten corpse of Cpt Claus inside the snake. They start to head back to the mansion.

Ether, Avina, and Danum get lost in the woods. They eventually get found by No Two and Karl. They meet up with Mr. Song, who is tracking the thugs, but is being badly encumbered by his oversized rifle. Upon hearing that his wife and daughter is safe, Rodrick Song decides to head back to the mansion. The PCs track down the tracks to the north beach, where they find the tracks leading to a hut at the beach. They cast their buffs, burst in, and attacked the two thugs inside. The man with the knife immediately dropped Danum in front, then proceeded to destroy Karl's bow, and Avina's pistol. Luckily, No Two and Ether laid down their debuffs right after, and the knife man surrendered. His helper, Mr. Lloyd aka Cpt Claus's deck hand, was tied up and drowned in the sea. They patch up everyone and head back to the Lunagard mansion.

They take the killer to the guest house, and learn that his name is Evans. He killed many people in Las Verisa few months ago, and has been locked up ever since. Alice finds out that the PCs are keeping a killer in the guest house, and goes to tell Aaron. Seline and No Two try to stop her, but she tells Aaron anyways. Aaron makes his way to the guest house. Meanwhile, Ether and Danum interrogate Evans for information, but he wouldn't budge. They send in Karl, but Evans freed himself from his bonds and attack Karl. Karl take him down. They tell Aaron what happened, as Karl strolls off into the woods. Aaron says he'll notify the Las Verisa authorities.

Yes, ranged sunder builds are rare and they're hard to optimize, but when you see one, it's utterly terrifying of how badly things can suddenly turn.
Honestly, the fastest way to get supplies would be if you simply flew to Las Verisa and back, since the ferryman is dead and another one will be have to found.
I agree that having more than one spell component pouch is a smart decision.

Some more comments:

It was fun watching both No Two and Ether use up their Danger Sense in that fight due to their poor first init rolls.
I was super nervous about Ether/Avina/Danum actually making the survival check and running into the thugs 3v2 in the woods. Given Evans's insane DPS and Lloyd's decent Spot/Listen/Hide/Move Silently, I say the PCs had like 10% hope of survival.
Always let your tank go in first! Kat probably should have checked the boat area first. I winced when I saw Lor moving up to the boat to investigate. "This is gonna hurt and maybe kill Lor." Also, congrats on making the fort save vs poison, because it deals Con damage and failure probably meant death.
Duskblade = Awesome. Also, Lilith is brilliant and you guys should appreciate her more.
The Las Verisa police force is getting contacted and is on their way supposedly. You guys could probably ask the police force to get you some items from the port city if you guys don't want to spare anyone to go to Las Verisa.
I really enjoyed watching Karl freaking out over his bow in this session. More I think about it, his alignment shift makes sense, not just from today's set of actions, but also including his previous ones. His trigger-happy shoot-first-ask-questions-second attitude definitely lean toward CN over CG.
I'd go easy on using up spells when trying to stop your own party members, not that it mattered today, since Karl apparently rolls nothing under a 25 on his saves.
Before you ask for loot, Lloyd's stuff is at the bottom of the ocean, and Evans had nothing but bunch of knives on him.

Clerics cannot cast spells opposed to their alignment.

Act of casting a spell with an alignment descriptor is an act of that alignment. (if a paladin were to cast an Evil spell, he knowingly committed an Evil act and would fall)

Similar to how a single act of Evil may not turn you Evil, but repeated acts of Evil will result in the alignment shift, casting an Evil spell once may not affect your alignment, but casting an Evil spell multiple times will.

Did you guys know that there is an item called Necklace of Adaptation?

It's a 9000g item from DMG that makes you immune to gases and vapor effects. (including things like cloudkill and stinking cloud)

Summary

Cpt Gundabog of the Las Verisa police force has been contacted and his on his way to the island. Elliot and Primrose have been tasked with escorting him, and Danum goes with them. Avina gets summoned by Magara Lunagard, and Ether goes with Avina. Magara tells them the history of the Lunagard House. Who flies to Las Verisa and finds Halle. Halle gives Who her magic pistol, and a letter for Avina. Who flies back to the island. Danum's party run into some giant wolves, so they take them down. They managed to catch one alive, and they bring it back to the mansion for investigation, along with Cpt Gundabog. Gundabog takes note of the murder scene, takes down Kat's testimony of what happened, stuffs the killer's body into the bag of holding and leaves.

Karl goes to the North Beach hut where he runs into an old fisherman wielding a harpoon gun named Silvan. Karl proves that the murderers broke into Silvan's hut, and asks to search the hut. Karl finds some junk machinery, and asks Silvan where he'd got them. Silvan replies that he found them at the old cove nearby, and that he's planning to check the place out tonight. Karl decides to join him.

Night falls, and Karl goes to investigate the cove with Silvan. It's eerie, but they forge ahead. They see a giant damaged robot underwater, and see a cloaked figure glide across the water towards them. Karl shot arrows at it, and Silvan launched his harpoon at the machine thing. The cloaked figure got closer, and everything near it begin to rot and rust away. The figure grabbed the harpoon and pulled Silvan underwater, where it grabbed him directly. Silvan begin to turn white and blue, the boat began to come apart, and Karl dimension doored away. Karl spent the rainy night in the North Beach hut, and returned to the mansion next morning.

In the morning, Avina and Ether heard someone leave abruptly, so they ran to check it out. William Lunagard, holding a Red Doll, was walking away into the woods, so they followed him and asked him. He showed them his doll, along with the messages, and said that he's going to check out the place where his grandfather died. They smash the doll and find a gem fragment that emits an aura of anger. They follow and search, but it comes fruitless. William asked whether he can search alone, but Avina and Ether refuse to leave him.

At the same time, MaryJane Song shows No Two about the doll she found. It's a Yellow Doll, and it has its messages. No Two smashes it and finds a gem fragment that emits an aura of surprise. MaryJane asks No Two whether he would come with her and her family to Las Verisa to see if there really was a Lunagard there. No Two agrees to go.

Here is a short recap of current situation in the campaign.

Avina and Ether are with William, searching the scene of Nolan's death.

All the PCs except Ether and Avina are at the guest house. MaryJane and her family received message that said that there is a Lunagard stuck on the other side of the shore, so they're heading to Las Verisa to find this person. MaryJane asked No Two to come along, and he agreed.

If any other PC at the guest house wants to join No Two and the Songs to Las Verisa, you should say so now.

Summary

No Two and Danum arrive at Las Verisa with the Songs. Songs find lodging and relax in the city. No Two feels a "tugging" from the gem fragments he is carrying towards one of the warehouses on the dock. He tells Danum to wait outside, turns invisible, and jaunts in. He sees bunch of boxes and sailors, so he try to figure out a way to check out the boxes without getting caught. He detects that some other magical auras are coming his way, so he jaunts back out and waits for whatever that was to leave the warehouse. Eventually, couple of sailors approach the duo and ask them what they're doing here. They attempt to bluff and intimidate their way out, but a female gnome mage interrupts and accuse No Two of breaking into the warehouse. She can detect the lingering auras from the spells No Two cast on himself not too long ago, and presents it as evidence. As the sailors move in to arrest them, No Two immediately flies up ahead and locks down the female gnome with his

Bands of Steel

. She frees herself by expending her Heart of Water, then dispels No Two's

mage armor

and

overland flight

. As No Two descend, he try to cast Evard's Black Tentacles, only to get hit by bunch of readied attacks from the sailors and fall unconscious. Danum surrenders, and they are taken to jail.

Meanwhile, Avina, Ether, and William are ambushed by a strange creature that doesn't have any scent, and is surrounded by a silence field. They initially have trouble against its spell resistance and overwhelming reach, but William transforms himself into a wolfman and grapples down the creature, freeing Avina and Ether. They retreat beyond its silence field and support William with spells and firearm, and eventually the creature dies. William asks the girls to stay and help him search, which they comply.

Meanwhile, rest of the PCs are summoned by Aaron, as Lady Magara has passed away and her will has been found. Her will names Lord Mycon has the Executor and sole distributor of the Lunagard Estate. Lord Mycon immediate disqualifies those who were not at the meeting on punctuality, then tries to disqualify Rion and his family based on their blood not being pure, as Elliot was due to marry Primrose, a half-elf. Julia becomes enraged, and challenges Primrose to a duel, intending to kill her or force her to break off her engagement with Elliot. Julia offers that she will recognize the marriage and accept Prim as her daughter-in-law if Prim wins the duel. Elliot doesn't want her to, knowing fully well how strong Julia is, but Primrose accepts.

They gather outside the in the keep grounds and begin the duel. Primrose's ranged attacks seem unable to penetrate Julia's magical defenses, and Julia has no trouble landing her spell-charged bullets against Primrose, thanks to her enchanted pistol. As Julia threatens Prim to call off the engagement or suffer death, Prim refuses. Before Julia takes the final shot to finish off Prim, Elliot steps in front of her and implores her to stop. Julia mocks him and asks whether he forgot that her gun renders all cover and concealment useless, before firing into the air. The bullet curves around Elliot and hits Primrose squarely in the chest, but it is Elliot who coughs blood. Elliot reveals that he cast Shield Other on Primrose, and if Julia wants to win the duel, she will have to kill her eldest son. For a longest moment, Julia looked like she was going to kill them both, but she let her pistol drop to the ground. She proclaims that Elliot was more precious to her than the whole island, and that it is her defeat.

They return to the table. Only remaining viable heir is Serria, but Lord Mycon asks her to verify her alignment by drinking a elixir of truth he prepared. Serria questions the potion, and Mycon asks Seline to verify it for her. Seline drops the potion vial intentionally, but it does not break. Seline then defers expertise to another person and hands the potion back. At this point, Kat offers to verify the potion, and soon as it's handed to her, she chugs it in one gulp. Lord Mycon chuckles and tells Serria that there is no longer a way to verify her alignment, and that she has been disqualified from the inheritance. Lord Mycon tells everyone that he will wait until a worthy heir is found, and until then, he will hold on to the estate. Meeting is over.

Rotting away in the Las Verisa jail, No Two and Danum finally meet Cpt Jin. No Two tells him everything, and Cpt Jin tells them that he will get a professional to take a look and verify their story. No Two dimension doors out to ask Halle for help. Halle is angry at No Two for the mess he put himself into, and contemplates kicking him out on his sorry ass.

William asks Avina and Ether that it is strange that he is unable to smell Nolan at all, in the place that supposedly he died at. He suggests that they return and take a look at the body, which they agree. William says he will be in his room and leaves. Soon afterwards, Ether is approached by Elliot and Primrose. Elliot asks Ether to play at his wedding tomorrow, to which she happily agrees to. Soon afterwards, Kat is approached by Serria. Serria examines Kat for any negative effect the potion may have had on her. Before she leaves, Serria asks Kat whether she detects as evil, to which Kat says no. Serria nods and walks back to the mansion.

So a good amount of information was revealed this session.
I was bit sad that Who got arrested like 10 minutes after arriving at Las Verisa, but it wasn't entirely unexpected given his record. Also, pairing No Two with Danum probably wasn't the best of ideas, but hindsight is perfect etc.
Who getting delayed at Las Verisa could be disastrous, should the party run into a difficult combat encounter at the island without him. I would recommend going forward with caution until he returns.
William being revealed as a Lycanthrope and being targeted for assassination by someone who is probably aware of his condition is

interesting

.
I was expecting Seline to decline examining the potion, but I was pretty surprised that Kat decided to stand up for Serria and chug the potion. As LLD said, Serria under a truth spell could be quite

informative

in the least.
I hope you guys are excited for the Elliot-Primrose wedding! It is due to happen tomorrow morning, and you guys are, of course, all invited.

Oh, and I would LOVE to read some theories you guys have that can explain what is happening behind the scene.

The usual way of dealing with spellcasters in prison is to keep them unconscious.

Because Jin knew you and knows your part in defeating Tuhin, he decided to be kind and keep you at 1 hp and conscious instead.

Jin is a simple, straightforward man. He was expecting a misunderstanding/miscommunication, like maybe you wanted to check out the goods in the warehouse but the sailors didn't let you in, not some crazy story involving serial killers, haunted mansions, and soul gems.

He decided after hearing your wild story that he was dealing with something waaaaay out of his league, and wanted to let the people that were more equipped to handle it.

It's really unfortunate how everything turned out.

You don't need to find such a spell.

Due to the existence of metamagic feat, Split Ray, a simple fireball spell already is quite lethal in the hands of a Spellward Sniper.

For example, an incompletely optimized Wiz 5/Rog 1/Spellward Sniper 3 opening with a split fireball deals an absurd amount of 18d6 damage (avg 54) with no save.

Throw in a celerity and it's an instant encounter win.

Sure. Take exotic weapon proficiency (rifle).

Here are some stats for renaissance firearms from the DMG, which are allowed in most of my campaigns (including this campaign):

Pistol - One handed, 1d10 damage, Crit x3, range 50ft, Piercing. Standard Action to reload.

Musket - Two handed, 1d12 damage, Crit x3, range 150ft, Piercing. Standard Action to reload.

Here are stats for a futuristic weapon from DMG:

Antimatter rifle - Two handed, 6d8 damage, Crit x2, range 120ft. Unnamed damage type. 2 shots per clip. Move action to reload.

It gets easier and easier to add multipliers at higher levels, if we are talking about just sheer damage progression.

You can setup with Limited Wish into Surge of Fortune, then use Arcane Thesis'd or Metamagic School Focus'd Twinned (w/ free Empower from Ray Mastery) Split Ray Fireball for effective 93d6 damage (325 avg) no save at lv 13. (not that I advocate playing at levels that high in the first place smh)

Otiluke's resilient sphere gets beaten by dispel magic (most primary casters), teleportation (most outsiders, like demons), or enemy just being too big (many high level bruisers are Huge size).
