They've been posting "First Look" videos for the major changes and Civs for a month now; where have you been?

Thoughts on the artstyle?

The fog of war looks amazing, and the fact that the construction of things happens in many more stages, as well as map destructibility, is pretty cool. However I'm not too sure I'm a fan of the step towards the cartoon-like style, it makes the game feel less serious and could be seen as a step down from civ v.

Some of the hinted mechanics on the other hand sound great.

I think I will learn to love it. This may seem unrelated, but look up the show
Pushing Daisies
if you don't know it by name. Basically, the cinematographer maxed out the saturation in many of the shots, resulting in an almost otherworldly and colorful environment. It was engrossing more than it was distracting, and I see the artistic style as shifting towards that, not necessarily cartoon. It looks like a game to me, but so did CiV.

It's a step away from gritty realistic which the industry needs.

I don't think abstraction in the art style is a bad thing for a strategy game. I think in something like Starcraft or Company of Heroes where what you're seeing is a direct representation of the boots on the ground. Civ, to me, has always been a little more presentational. More akin to a board game with several degrees of abstraction.

I like the art style, I don't want it to feel more real and gritty.

I absolutely adore the new artstyle.

Call me a nintendo kid but stilised > realistic, also because stilised games stand the test of time better, compare Goldeneye to Super Mario 64.

Got the required delegates for a diplo victory, Denmark goes to war. Get them again, enter it in to the diplo screen and China fucking wins the Science victory a turn before.

I hate China.

You can learn just about special abilities in the "first look" videos. If those spoil too much, you can stop after 1.
