Okay so i know the previous post was vague....

So Allow me to Welcome you to..

KCDASPOT'S AWESOME HOW TO OPENTTD FOR IDIOTS.

okay starting off just click new game... now.. just do it FUCKIN DO IT AL-



ok.. ok.. here is the world generation screen. OpenTTD randomly generates worlds so you don't play the same world twice.... so thats cool.

you're gonna setup the world how you see fit. you want me to teach you ho- FUCK YOU. if... look just figure this shit out. the options are pretty self-explanatory and if you have no idea just gen a few worlds with different options to get a handle on it mmkay?

Heres the options i went with.


Now then. the randomize button.

making sure we got a good and random world, lets begin. just click generate to the bottom left and lets start.

Now then the first thing off that you might wanna do is mosey on over to this button right here:

Because you've prolly noticed the sound of nails on a chalk-- i mean the horrifying midi soundtrack.

hit the stop button to turn it off unless you like that then... the fuck man why would you do that to yourself?

Now then lets cover the ways to tycoon

you got roads, rails, boats and airports...

That last one is landscaping if you wanna build land routes, or make everything pretty... which is your prerogative i guess...

so which one is the easiest to learn the game?

first thing we're gonna need: a nice decent sized town. prolly one of the larger ones starting up.

When you click the button here:


you get this:


Now just starting off, you see the area around my cursor? the white and blue squares? well if i click there the white squares will be replaced with what you see in the green window.
The blue squares represent the coverage area. anything in that area will supply the thing in the white squares. fucking complicated right?

so lets plop this honker down somewhere good.

Also if you are playing along and paid attention:

You'll notice that the "supplies:" and the "accepts:" lines change as you move it around. if you are near industies (the lumber mills and coal mines and power plants and other various things that dot the land) those lines will differ depened what they can give and what they need. supply and demand, get me? since we are near a town we are getting passengers and mail and we can bring in passengers. mail and "goods"... another industry thing.

and bam. for 11 thousand dollars we got a airport.

OH that reminds me! i nearly forgot:


This little bar is always at the bottom of the screen. on the left you see the in-game date. ive been pausing alot the show how everything works so thats why we haven't got that far game time. also i should mention that the default start date is 1950. on the right you see the cash you got on hand and if you click THAT:


you get a read out of your finances. by default you are loaned 200k so go nuts and experiment if you want. ALSO you can change the currency used by going to the title screen and going back over the game options.

Last time on OpenTTD Z: Goku got pissed and shot a fucking ball out his fucking hand at some asshole. Also we built an airport.



So now what? well... if you got an airport that means you are gonna build some planes but that means shit if they don't have anywhere to go so lets find another good sized town to plop another airport.

this is nice spot.


and to put this in perspective heres the map of our two town we're linking up.


Yeah if you wanna try and link these 2 places via rail or roads, good fucking luck.

After making sure to clear away the

Fucking whore ass piece of shit hill

all the obstructions we plopped down the airport.


Okay we got two airports now one all the the way... north??? at Gaininghall and one... to the south??... (okay fucking which way is north in this fucking game?) we got one in Nunningville.

So now that you got two airports planes automatically pour out of the hanger and start on the route and everything is awesome right?


first off, lets head back to he first airport.


let move the cursor over the hanger...

and click.

A new window pops up:


This is hanger, or vehicle bay. you'll see its got 12 spots for planes over on the right side of the window youl see three buttons. if you want to delete and sell off a plane just drag it to the top one. if you want to sell off ALL the planes in this particular hanger, just click the second one down and we'll cover the third one later.

now on the bottom you'll see "new aircraft" "clone aircraft" and "location"

Location simply warps your camera back onto the hanger, but the button we want is "new aircraft" so lets click it:

lots of choices here... yep...

Now the samson is fine its gets 25 pessengers and 3 bags of mail but the Bakewell does better with 30 pessengers and 6 bags of mail, so lets get that. Click on "buy aircraft" and...

Boom! the aircraft appears in your hanger and a window shows up where the aircraft is currently.

alright.. starting up again.

Lets see now where were we? ah yes.

We had just bought an aircraft.

so now how in the hell do we get it from one airport to the other? simple:

We order it to.

click that button and another window appears.


The orders window.. this is where you are gonna do probably most of the "micro" in a sense(if you are familiar with RTS terminology).

at the top youll see a thing called "timetable".. I dunno what that is either so... MOVING ON. (gonna research and cover later)

next is the BIIIG area in the middle there. thats this aircraft's or vehicle's orders. what ever you tell it to do will show up there in the order you tell it to do it.

but how the fuck do you tell it to do shit? well... there at the bottom right (none of the other buttons work right now and we'll cover those later) you'll see "go to"


Lets click it!

That change is what you need to give all your vehicles orders. what do you do? simple: just click on the airport. be careful not to click the han-



ehhh.... fuck.

okay why was that bad? simple. instead of visiting the airport proper to pick up passengers and mail and shit it'll just say FUCK ALL YALL and go to the hanger and chill. meaning your not gonna get paid for delivering peeps and mail to this airport.

and you're probably like:


But dude. chill. its still good. Click the order itself and more stuff happens:


As you can see, some of the buttons activated. one of them is "refit". basically you can modify our vehicles to carry whatever you need them to if you are able to refit them. so i can tell the plane to screw the passengers and just carry mail or whatever. maintenence fixes the vehicle, if it needs it.

Both of those options are available only in hangers or vehicle depots. the vehicles has to be in the depot in order for it to use that shit.

But im ahead of myself. what we want is riiiiight here.


when you click an order itself you highlight it, and can edit the order to how you see fit. we want to get rid of it, so we just click "delete"

annnnnd its gone simple as that.

Will show some new buttons.

Basically they are telling the plane what to do at the airport.

Full load any cargo tells to take what ever it can take and go. unload all tells it to leave everything its got. together they basically mean "unload everything that you can deliver here and take what you can take, then leave."

So now we told it to stop at this airport and load up/unload. now lets tell it to stop at the other airport.

Going to the other airport and clicking go to...

there... Both airports are in the queue and money will flow to us... any second now...

Now that thats started you may have noticed..


that its not unloading or loading anything first time it flies in.

thats because.... well i like to imagine it like:

"OH SHIT WHATS THAT?"

"I DONT KNOW I BETTER NOT GO THERE"

"OH SHIT THATS A PLANE"

"OH SHIT ITS AN AIRPORT LETS GOOOOOO"

The cargo, or whatever wont... "realize" what you are doing straight away so it takes a bit after your vehicles first visit to that place for it to start being prepped to be loaded.

you can check the by clicking on one of the airports themselves:


it took a little bit for this airport to be used after the first visit, but you can clearly see that theres passengers and mail waiting to be taken to the other airport.

The airport will start to fill up with passengers eager to go on a adventure after they realize OH ITS A THING. and then...

the plane will load up.. head to the other airport..


unload annnnd....





now heres the thing:


you'll notice that time has advanced a year and for your trouble you've only gotten $20k or so... what gives? you only have one plane. now granted you COULD just spam planes and get more money like that but you'd be wasting more than you'd be getting. There has to be a better way.

Well i DID say there were four ways to make money in this game right?

A Little extra bonus post:

between now and next time when tackle roads, the world will be a little different.

Mainly im just adding one more airport, here...




And adding planes until i have at least 2 planes per airport. meaning im gonna have 6 planes.

each of these planes will use one airport as a "hub" if you will, and will go to one of the other airports, meaning ill have 2 planes on each route.

Now a problem comes up...


These planes are expensive, im gonna run outta money here pretty quick.

luckily there is a fix for this:

There at the bottom you see some more buttons "Borrow 20K" "Pay back 20K" thats how you get more off your loan.

now doing some simple math i can tell that to get the four other planes its gonna take about $240K so i'll borrow about $260K more:


yeah i know that is a a lot of cheddar to be borrowing. its fine though, the usual default max loan is $600K



So all i go to do is give em thier orders:

Finally i'll be letting this run for about a year or so in game time.

As someone who has played both games, Simutrans is better in that the people tell you where they want to go, but also worse in that as it's harder to start with I think. (I'm fairly sure I played a older version of that though)
Although OpenTTD does have patches you can put in for the same effect, but since I'm too lazy to learn how to compile those in, I don't have them in my version at the moment.
