Classic Nintendo Games (N64/GBA or earlier)

This forum is specifically for discussing non-Mafia games
(board, card, video, we're not picky)
.
Playing
such games should happen in the Mish Mash forum, of course.

Classic Nintendo Games (N64/GBA or earlier)

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Sat Dec 13, 2014 1:12 pm

Post by theelkspeaks »

I've recently been undergoing a wave of nostalgia for my old Nintendo games, especially the Donkey Kong Country games, the old Super Mario Bros/World/Yoshi's Island games, Heroes of Might and Magic for the GBC, and so on. Playing some of them here and there reminds me just how good some of these games were, and quite a lot of them really hold up even compared to more recent games (at least in my opinion).

Anyone else have favorite classic games to recommend or be nostalgic about?

One of my earliest gaming memories will always be rifling through a bag full of newspaper ("I got you garbage for your birthday!") to unearth Pokemon Red and a Gameboy.

If a game was good they remake it several times. :?

Games that should be mentioned:
*Fire Emblem
*Banjo-Kazooie and its sequel
*Kirby Super Star (I liked all the Kirby adventure games in this era except Adventure)
*Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (Ages is okay too) (Majora's Mask hasn't aged very well but do play it for the experience)

If you're using an emulator you can try Earthbound, also for the experience. I personally don't think it's the Greatest Game Of All Frigging Time but it has its moments. The emulator is there so you can hold the fast-forward key for 70% of the game.
Everything you say and do matters. People will respond in ways you may never see. May those responses be what you intend.

Adventures of Lolo (and its sequels. Great block-pushing games)
Bubble Bobble

I'm sure I'll remember more.

I have a lot of fond memories playing games with my sister when we were kids - Blast Corps 64 and Pilot wings 64 on N64 and Super Mario World and Super Mario RPG on SNES.

Also trading Pokemon: Yellow for a Link to the Past was the best decision I ever made.

When it comes to old games, I'm mostly into platformers, but I play most genres of recent games (though never really been a fan of FPS)

Mega Man 2 and 3 are great entries into the Mega Man series. The others are good but not quite as.

Is the N64 really considered "classic" now?

God damn.

My first system was the SNES, so the N64 still feels pretty classic to me. I'm a 1992 born, if that gives a relevant age for how old I was when systems came out.

I have game systems in my house that are older than you.

Now I feel really old.

For gbc

- shantae (I think at this point everyone knows about this game.)
- Wario Land series (up to Wario land 3, which is very fun to play with Wario land 2)
- SaGa 3 (also known as final fantasy legends 3. Fantastic soundtrack.)
- Lufia (I forgot the full title since it's been a while. But this is a dungeon crawler game unlike other Lufia titles.)
- Great greed (RPG with wacky names and wacky storyline.)
- LoZ series (these are overrated but links awakening and Oracle series are fun)
- GB contra/castlevania/metroid
- bionic commando

I'll write more if I can think about it.

Final Fantasy 6 (3 for the SNES version) and Chrono Trigger (only for the SNES since this is a classics thread, but it was rereleased for the DS).

Breath of Fire and Breath of Fire 2 if you're into atrocious translations.

First thing I ever bought with my allowance was a N64. I was 8. And Zito beat me to it saying that N64 is "classic". SNES was my first system. Do you know what system totally blew my mind when it came out? Playstation. OMG. A game on a cd? HOLY SHIT.

My first disc based console was the Sega CD. On that system you saved games onto the system memory, so I was always annoyed that you had to use memory cards on the older Playstations, it was clearly a step back. (Or a step forward if you liked accessory money I guess.)

The original Playstation is definitely the first real successful disc based console though.

umm, I was 8. I also still have no idea what that is. We also didn't own a computer until way after that.

Also, HOLY SHIT DOES THE DOLLAR SUCK DICK NOW. The dollar is half as strong now as it was in 85. The yen on the other hand is only about 25 dollars difference from then and now.

The only reason I know that's a CD-i is because I watch the Angry Video Game Nerd on youtube. It was a really obscure system that really did not do very well at all.
