such games should happen in the Mish Mash forum, of course.

Could you explain this to me over the course of a 2 hour long infomercial?

According to the wiki page on it, CD-is were made by Phillips, Magnavox, GoldStar / LG Electronics, Digital Video Systems, Memorex, Grundig, Sony ('Intelligent Discman', a portable CD-i player), Kyocera, NBS, Highscreen, and Bang & Olufsen.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philips_CD-i

Man the Sega CD ends up being the better system of that gen simply by not failing as hard. (Phillips lost nearly a billion dollars on the CD-i)

Naw, I was referencing a late-night infomercial that used to air for the CD-i (there's uploads on YouTube, but they are pretty bad quality).

It was actually pretty slickly produced, but infomercials are the tool of the desperate preying on the stupid.

When i was a kid, Donkey Kong 64 was my (and my siblings) main game. We spent hundreds of hours on it, and never got all 201 golden bananas.
April 1, It came out on the Wii U E-Shop, so i bought it.
Clocked it.
In less than 24 hours of gameplay.
It was an amazing 2 days.

Breath of Fire and Breath of Fire 2 if you're into atrocious translations.

Man, I loved Breath of Fire 2.

I love the entire series even though I think the argument could be made that the original game was objectively pretty mediocre and hasn't aged well at all.

The sequel was outstanding, however. I don't want to use the cliche that it was ahead of its time because, one, I don't know enough about jrpgs of that era (or in general, really) to make that claim, and two, I don't necessarily think anything was too terribly groundbreaking about it conceptually. But it did everything right that it was supposed to do and the story draws you in just as well as any top tier classic rpg you can name. The story had really dark undertones and really solid writing (despite the unfortunate translation work that Cyrus spoke about).

But, yeah, it's a good one. I'd definitely recommend 2, 3, 4 and DQ to anyone that likes jrpgs.

Unfortunately I doubt 6 will get a western release. Even if we do, I don't really care for the idea of a cell phone/tablet-oriented game.

I'm actually currently playing through Breath of Fire 2 for the first time on the Wii U.

I think you'll enjoy it, Zach. The further you get and the more you invest into it, the richer the plot gets... and it really pays off at the end. Additionally, it's not a difficult game at all (well, at least 2 of the 3 endings aren't difficult... I never took the time to get the best ending).

I'd say 4 and Dragon Quarter are the best BoF games if you can get your hands on them.

Oh, and some other games that I think are essential:

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (also, all of the GBA/DS Metroidvanias)
Terranigma
Illusion of Gaia
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire
Mischief Makers
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon
Jet Force Gemini
Parasite Eve

More later as I come up with them.

oh speaking of mario 64 like games

Have you played Dex 3 for GBC before? It's like one of those mario64 style "complete the objectives" type of game.

Yes, we employ the man responsible for DK64's myriad of trinkets, but we've had a stern word.
*snort*

I like how the shtick is basically "IT'S ANOTHER BANJO-KAZOOIE GAME except off-brand" and everyone is so psyched for it. That said, it looks like they pulled in a lot of the Rare devs for the game, which is a hugely positive sign.
Everything you say and do matters. People will respond in ways you may never see. May those responses be what you intend.
