I get this, and I'm going to try to be as respectful as possible, but here were the thoughts I wrote down tonight about this (actually, I wrote it on my phone during the intermission of the show I'm in... lol)In post 19918, Bulbazak wrote:Maestro, I'm not sure what I could do about that? I wasn't going to track people down or do voice chat with the group or anything. I was just going to do my own thing in the world and just stream it.
I get that you won't really be getting our voice chat or anything, but I'm sorry, I have a few problems with streaming in this server. Thanks in advance for bearing with me - this gets a bit long-winded, and it is veryblunt, but I figured it was best to put all my thoughts out there so nobody thinks there's any malice meant by this, since I understand that it's something you enjoy, Bulba.
Firstly, thepointof multiplayer MC is to interact with other people, so I don't want to feel like I have to avoid somebody on server if I don't want to be on stream. (I like you as a person and a player, so it would be a shame to me to just avoid your space or the server entirely just because of my preference for privacy while playing this game I love playing in order to relax and release.)
Secondly, your viewers will most likely see our chat, and I like talking on-server with people, most of whom I consider real friends, and have at least talked to outside of the site. (I was at Klaz's graduation party just today, incredibly!) I (and others) go back and forth between discussing MC stuff, MS.net stuff, and things important to us in real life. I don't want that broadcast on a stream watched by who-knows-who (This second issue could be solved by making chat tiny or turning it off entirely, if that's even possible, but then you're not really seeing us. It might as well be single-player. I hate once the server gets dead and nobody's around taking anymore, so I wouldn't want you to feel like you had to go there.)
Lastly, there's some part of me that wonders what the point would even be. This part gets a bit "not-my-business", but it's my opinion, damnit, and I'm sharing it. Our server is neither (1)open to the publicnor (2)doing anything extremely interesting, as far as modded MC/streaming is concerned, and the reason I mention these is because...
- If we were a server trying to grow for donations or something similar, that would be different. But we're not. We don't need an advertisement or anything like that, and I concede in advance; that isn't the point of your streams, even tangentially. But even so, I like that we're attached to this non-MC site that is near and dear to all of our hearts. I don't think most of us want or need "randos" joining the server without joining the site, for instance. Part of the wonderful thing about our server has always been that we don't need to rely on bullshit protection plugins or other nonsense, because we all have at least an impression of eachother from outside of MC. We've usually played games together, or we see eachother in the discussion forums. Our actions on the server have some impact on our relationships outside of that space, e.g. being dicks to eachother carries more consequences, and giving gifts or helping somebody out on-server can create actual friendships like what happened with Klaz and I. To put it bluntly, I don't want people seeing your stream and trying to join the server without realizing that there's history here, so to speak. Related to this, we used to go by a "vouching" system: if somebody could vouch for you or you were already a known member of the site, you were in. But you were the responsibility of the one who vouched for you, and if you did anything indecent on-server like griefing or cheating, the person that vouched for you would receive any punishments you did. I liked that system, and I think we need it back. But that's another discussion.
- We're not ForgeCraft. Feel free to disagree with me, but in my opinion, we have nothing super-exciting to contribute to any modded MC discussion/streaming community. This is, of course, ultimately your domain, but there are only a couple players that remain active on any given server. We don't have a habit of public events or tight-knit builds like we used to. We don't even use custom packs nowadays, and when we have, they've sometimes been thrown together, edited, and shared on Google Drive or something, outside of public launchers like Curse or FTB (because those have stringent rules *cough* author permissions *cough* and other red tape to go through, and can simply be a hassle). We're using FTB Revelation nowadays, and I'm just not sure how interesting that pack would be to stream viewers compared to something like an HQM pack, or another kind of themed modpack.

This is, ultimately, not my call. And it doesn't even need to be a hard-and-fast ruling or anything. But I don't want either one of us to just have to up and leave when the other is online. And I don't know how to solve the issue, this was just my attempt at starting a discussion.
Like, if this were for fun spleef tournaments or other events we might hold in the future, know that I would be 100% on board with streaming, but just all the time?- Maestro

This is kindof a bigger-picture discussion I'd been meaning to bring up regardless of the question of streaming. I'd love to hear what people think about this.In post 19928, Maestro wrote:Related to this, we used to go by a "vouching" system: if somebody could vouch for you or you were already a known member of the site, you were in. On the subject of streaming, I don't have a strong personal opinion.
From the admin point of view I think it should require consent of those present, at least.
FWIW we've had people doing streaming/recording before, for example Gabe and Osota.
I think the planned usage of the material also needs to be disclosed.
Regarding vouching, we've only had one recent example of someone coming in who wasn't a known member, and it was a technical error. I expected WL to be enabled by default but it wasn't.
I think it's important to be welcoming. It's also important to have standards. Community input is essential.
We had a griefing/stealing incident on vanilla a while back, and IIRC it was an established site member. So the established member criteria isn't necessarily adequate.Wanna play Minecraft with your ms friends? Check out the minecraft thread, or the channel on discord- davesaz

Regarding pack selection, the challenge is coming up with common ground to find a set of mods which appeals to a broad audience and has staying power.
It didn't help that the landscape was constantly changing. Maybe things are stable enough now to go custom, if we have adequate input.
There are some things I haven't done on the current server but the list is dwindling. It hasn't reached themove nowstage but the itch has started.

Like Arch says, just not as many examples as I thought, I guess.
I thought I remembered previous streamers. I guess I just said nothing before because I didn’t feel as strongly or the landscape was different (to use your phrase). I would think “consent of those present” was the baseline for it happening, but I wanted to have a discussion so thanks for responding!
RE: vouching, etc. I know we’ve had several problems with griefing in the (mostly) distant past, and I remember that the two standouts were both community members. One of them could have been avoided had we made sure somebody involved had some idea what the player was like in Minecraft, the other was a long-time contributor even here at the server. I’m still a bit sad about that, but I would disagree that it could’ve been predicted.
RE: custom packs, I wasn’t trying to start that discussion now. I’m not convinced I want to move on from our current server yet, and Klaz, for example, is just now starting bees. To be frank, in the past I’ve been one of those who either disagrees with the majority or (to put it lightly) has different wants/needs from his custom packs. Obviously Klaz and I also have our KMPacks, so it’s possible the streaming question is easily answered if I’m the only one who has major objections and I leave when Scumpack 8 comes out. But I’d prefer not to, probably?- Maruchan

The new pack comment is more about long term planning, not anything imminent.
I just took a look at what's available and it's mind blowing.
Probably take weeks to months to find out what works well together.
Definite wants and dislikes, in broad terms, is enough at this point.Wanna play Minecraft with your ms friends? Check out the minecraft thread, or the channel on discord- EspeciallyTheLies

NEW MS CUSTOM SCUMPACK 8
I promised I would start working on this over this weekend So here's what I want YOU to do! Post mods you are interested in, along with a link and a short description, here in the thread so I can go through them and check them out. The version you'll want is 1.12.2. Also let me know if it's a release, alpha or beta version, and understand that most likely we will not be including alpha versions of mods.
The plan is to have a beta pack ready for testing by the end of the weekend. Hopefully.
From Blake:Blood Magic (alpha) - magic mod centered around using your blood to power rituals and stuff. Lots of automation, armor/weapons/tools, etc.Art is cool.- Maestro

This is by no means a complete (or up-to-date, as far as version numbering) list of mods I'd recommend/want in a pack, but it does contain some things Klaz and I came across for 1.12.2 that were either not always in MC packs for whatever reason, or were unknown to us. It's copy-pasted from a Google Sheet so it's a bit difficult to parse in some places, but I'm passing it on in the hopes thata)where applicable, preferences can be taken into account, andb)new, fun mods can be taken into consideration over some of the tired things we see in Every Modpack Ever Made.
Spoiler: Mod Name - Version (outdated) - Link! - Short blurb
As far as my preferences, I'd like to make some arguments here and start the discussion for this modpack off in a good way.
Applied Energistics 2is infinitely more interesting to work with and work with thanRefined Storage, IMO, even if it does require a little more work, and I know at least Klaz and (I believe?) Oso agree. The crystals and the meteorites provide so much atmosphere to a game that is otherwise just "mine this Ore to make this machine that's all in one block and then let it do its thing", and RS was originally only conceived because AE2 was a bit slower to update to [whatever MC version that was]. Now that AE2 is back and better than ever (with plenty of updated addons to support it, like ExtraCells and AE2Stuff), I see no reason to stick to the fake when we could go with the original.
On the flip side of that coin, I highly recommend as a group we transition to supporting TeamReborn and the work they're doing with mods likeTechRebornrather than continue to useIndustrialCraft 2. Regardless of your opinion ofGregTech(the hardcore IC2 addon), author GregoriusT has been on development for IC2 itself for a long time now, and it just doesn't sit well with me to support somebody who goes out of his way to be as hateful as GT has. Not when the TeamReborn folks have such an amazing IC2 clone in devlopment outside of his influence. (TechReborn also looks WAY nicer, IMO.) TeamReborn in general just seems like a group modding for 2018, while IC2 is still stuck with some of the same textures and bugs and annoying habits it had way back in 1.4.7 and 1.6.4.
You'll notice some new dimension mods on this list, and that's because Klaz and I were specifically focusing on dimension travel and on some progression with our new pack. I took out all the stuff that people wouldn't want/need in a non-progression-based pack, but here's my take (in no particular order) on a couple of the really cool mods out for 1.12.2 now (all of these have links up top in the spoiler):
- Dimensional Doors--- Some of you may remember this one from awhile back. An incredibly atmospheric mod spanning 2 dimensions, predicated on the idea that doors can be portals. Out in the world, and (to some degree) craftable, are magic doors that take you into so-called Pocket Dimensions. The doors can nest inside eachother, and if you go too deep, a la the movieInception, you can eventually get dropped (or taken!) into the sinister Limbo dimension. Very cool. Very functional. Dimensions: check! Worldgen/Exploration: check! etc.
- Aether Legacy--- Again, a blast from the past. The Aether was originally conceived in the early days of modded MC as an opposite to the Nether, but still quite dangerous and difficult to explore! A sky dimension populated by birds of paradise and creatures of crystal and light, the Aether also (I believe) has a boss system not unlike Twilight Forest, and cool new building materials, food, etc.
- Hunting Dimension--- Simple. An eternal-night dimension for whatever people need to hunt themselves some Endermen or what-have-you. I really think this is a common sense addition, and a long time coming! Maybe it could help with Astral Sorcery too! (might need to configure AS to work with that)
- SimpleVoidWorld--- Another simple one, from TeamReborn. This one has been around for a bit, and is in FTB Revelations (the current server). Just a right-clickable block portal that drops you on a Terracotta platform in a void. Super useful for modded builds, but is location dependent. So if you move the portal block, it spawns a new platform in a (sometimes only slightly) different place in the void.
- Creeping Nether--- Essentially, instead of just the occasional Zombie Pigman coming through an active Nether Portal, the dimension itself can spread like a disease, corrupting nearby blocks into Netherrack or Soul Sand, and spawning Nether-specific mobs. I'm sure speed, maximum distance, etc. are all configurable, and it could make for some really interesting builds, but all it takes to prevent is just a deactivation of the Portal. Another interesting but lightweight addition.
- Betweenlands--- Discussed for a prior custom pack (I think, maybe it was a KMP discussion), this mod is INCREDIBLE. Talk about atmosphere, you have to look up their website and see the lore, model/texture work, and shaders/code that has gone into this project. The idea is basically a corrupted swamp dimension, a peaceful forest-realm that was corrupted by the Nether. All non-Betweenlands food and tools don't work in this dimension because of the decay (this is definitely configurable and could probably be avoided with exploits, so who knows how definite it is), and that same decay also affects players who stay there long enough. Could be another really cool opportunity for some challenging combat and exploration in modded MC, instead of just the same old "tech up and sit on a mountain of RF" grind.
- NetherEX--- Basically, a hybrid biome and worldgen mod for the Nether. Really nice cohesive vision and configurability; the wiki has basically anything you'd need to look at to convince yourself. https://www.reddit.com/r/NetherEx/wiki/index
- Ender IO--- It's back, in all its cable-y glory! We gotta have it.
- Mekanism--- Give me my EZmode Steel and my 4x Ore Processing.
- OpenBlocks--- THIS IS BACK TOO, SO MANY GOOD THINGS ARE BACK
- Weather Overhaul--- Corosus has made a REALLY cool mod here, that I've been watching for awhile. Adds REAL storms to Minecraft, storms that can shred apart natural blocks like Leaves and Grass, and toss mobs up into the air (underground mob/animal farms now seem like a good idea). Check out some of the videos on the page, they're REALLY cool. It also adds a block that can change the weather, or at least turn the destructive Tornadoes away from player builds. And there's a weather siren too!
- Zombie Awareness--- Another nice mod from Corosus here, tweaks to mob AI (not just Zombies, IIRC) that make them more malevolent. Highly configurable, but adds ways to enhance mob group spawning, attacks on Villages and player bases, mob infighting, etc.
- Da Vinci's Vessels--- The successor to Archimedes' Ships, an amazing mod that lets you build your own moving ship out of blocks that (for the technically-minded) shift between blocks and entities, allowing you to actually pilot water-bound and air-worthy vehicles. You can even put chests and other tile entities on your ships and take them with you! Have a floating base, within reason...please don't break the server...
- Embers / Roots--- Elucent, the author of these two mods, can be really negative, and doesn't offer a ton of support for his mods, but they are incredibly detailed in concept and in execution. Some of the best texture work in all of modded MC, IMO, beautiful graphics in general. Both are "magic" mods, of a sort:Rootsis based in herb magic (for example, you create magical new plants in rituals, and use a Gandalf-esque wooden staff to cast spells), andEmbersis a Dwarven-inspired magi-tech hybrid mod, that adds Golems, Ember Crystals, and a really unique system to a world otherwise filled with cables. Both are natural companions to a mod likeBotania, in that neither uses GUIs and all of the action ("transfer" etc.) takes place in-world. It can be a little frustrating to start them, since there's not as much exhaustive documentation as in Botania, but for those willing it won't be too hard. And I can help you!

I'd caution against rushing things. Some of our past problems came from things that looked good in SSP but performed badly on server.
I've been pretty happy with the premade packs we've used recently. Can't think of any "standard" things that should be excluded so I'll just post some recent news vs a complete list.
Ender IO (does not say in the jar if it's release/beta) -- old favorite with a new mechanic which requires lighting bedrock on fire.
Thaumcraft 6 (beta) -- another favorite (of most, though there are some haters) -- also has a new mechanic, and looks to be completely reworked progression
Pedit: and what Maestro said!
Additional Plugs for Astral sorcery, Psi, Bees, all of which give variety -- the more different things to progress on, the better chance it has of lasting.Wanna play Minecraft with your ms friends? Check out the minecraft thread, or the channel on discord- davesaz

I figured a LOT of things are general mainstays at this point, like Astral Sorcery, so I didn't mention them. Thaumcraft is in Beta, and only for Patreon subscribers. Klaz has had access to some time, since he's a donor, but I wouldn't feel super comfortable supplying that to the entire group unless a couple people agree we should pledge to Azanor for it. Not sure, but maybe we could do a group pool/account thing...
It just feels a bit wrong to circumvent a very direct effort to keep the current releases in the hands of those who are dedicated enough to support him.
PEDIT: lol thanks y'all
Just read it at some point! And hopefully respond... for my sake. I'm not advocating for rushing by any means, but I think ETL has the right idea. You can only do so much "in testing". After a certain point, you just need to drop things on a server, hope for the best, and ADAPT as things come up.- davesaz
