seems like we could use a cleric or druid, so i'll probably do one of those

this will be the first character in a long time who i have not had start out with a crowbar (which i inevitably find a use for exactly once)

i've been through the forest with an elf with no name

(i figure he will probably find a name somewhere along our travels)

The elf looks around a bit nervously, as he has been doing this entire time. He is obviously uncomfortable with so many people staring at him. Internally, he regrets his life choices.

Though he remains nervous and does not speak except for the words of a spell, he does add an unnecessary flourish or two to his spellcasting. He casts Produce Flame, creating a small, flickering fire in his hand. Thinking his goal is simply to get a reaction, he hurls it without warning at the target.

The elf nods solemnly. He will go, for someone should try to resolve this situation without bringing harm to a creature who may be misunderstood.

The elf is somewhat mistrustful of this whole "inn" thing, and would much prefer to get to camping in the wilderness, but he ultimately decides to brave civilization in order to stick with the group. He's mostly silent throughout the evening as he doesn't really trust these strange people, but is equally loathe to let them out of his sight for the same reason.

The elf decides to speak now. "If we find a beast of any sort in here, please give me the opportunity to speak with it," he asks. He thinks back to the previous day's antics. "Before we go... doing whatever we do to living targets."

That said, he takes up a position in the middle of the group and draws his whip.

"I do not think we are going to be friends if you do such things in my presence."

[Cephrir]

Elf follows, looking around for any clues as to the nature of this creature.

Elf moves to back up Nathaniel and attacks goblin 1 with his whip from as far away as he can manage.

In the midst of the chaos, Elf, unaccustomed to battling alongside humanoid allies, sees Cael trying to help Aulric and finally realizes that he should be the one healing his companion.

Elf rushes to Aulric's side and casts Cure Wounds.

Elf moves closer to Del, thinking this new ally looks more reliable than the other ones, Produces Flame and targets Goblin 6 with a thrown flare.

Elf launches another burst of flame towards the final goblin.

The elf ignores the thrown scroll and looks at the ground, pained. The poor creature was dead before he could even get a chance to try to help it. For a moment, he is angry with himself for his failure.

Of course, it was probably trying to protect its family and distraught over the loss of its mate. But humans and their ilk do not care for such things, he thinks, the target of his anger changing. He is not surprised that his comrades ignored his request; this only reinforces what he already thought about people.

He steps forward to ensure no harm will come to the puppies. He wonders whether they will survive without their parents. should i roll something to see if i know this?

"Had this happened naturally," he says, at first to no one in particular, "I would say that the fate of the pups is none of my concern, as such is the way of things. But now... I am unsure."

Then he glares at the party. "But I will not allow any of you to hurt them more than you already have. You are more deserving of the name of 'beast' than these creatures."

Elf will remember that.

"Humans and the like have left nature too far behind and so become weak and foolish. If they do not know well enough to keep away from lands where they will be hunted by stronger creatures, it is they who are to blame for what they get."

He turns on Cael. "So you would butcher them because you see your species as better than theirs? Are any of us "intelligent" species so special that we deserve to fear no predator or danger? Your societies are a perversion of the natural order."

do I know how death dogs treat the young of other death dogs, and whether death dogs are common anywhere nearby?

well I'm out of ideas and struggling to figure out how to RP my way out of this without getting violent with the party

just from a player courtesy standpoint, it's rude to start taking actions particularly of the murder variety in the middle of a conversation

"What am I thinking? I am thinking that we are considering our options and you decided to just go ahead and end a helpless life. Do not pretend to be shocked I would try to defend these creatures unless you wish to claim your ears do not work. There may have been another way, but evidently you have such a lust for blood that you cannot wait even a few minutes to begin butchering."

Seeing that he is outnumbered, the elf looks at the rest of the party. "Have none of you a care for any creature save yourselves? Will you just stand there? I think little of your kind, but these two are showing that even my suspicion that you possess hearts at all is too optimistic."

I'll use Druidcraft to manifest a weather prediction in front of Del's face in the hopes of distracting him.

well, they're probably all dead, so i guess i won't have to propose anything

"These creatures are a part of "anyone." They are conscious. Beings who are not like you matter. And after what I've witnessed today and in the past, clearly they are right to harm civilized peoples."

Thoroughly disgusted, Elf leaves the cave.

[Cephrir]

The elf, who has been obviously brooding in silence since the cave, collects his gold and turns to the now blessedly Cael-less group. "It has been dreadful knowing you. I hope our paths do not cross again," he says. He makes as if to leave.

[Cephrir]

"Wait!" Nathaniel's tears have dried but his face is still very much red and blotchy, though he tried to furrow his brow in some semblance of serious stoicism. "You never even told us your name, elf."

Elf turns back.

"I do not have a name in the way that you all do... in the wilderness I have come from, I was simply called Elf, as there were no other elves to confuse me with -- only fey, dryads and animals. If I had a name long ago, I have forgotten it."

Elf is obviously torn. He could really use the money, but doesn't want to deal with these people for another moment.

[Cephrir]

"...I will do this thing, for I do not like the sound of this organization. However, do not be mistaken. I am not a part of this group. Do not expect my aid when the rest of you screw up, for at present, it seems to me that the world would be a better place without you in it."

Elf sits apart from the group.

He'd also like to take a closer look at the half-elf.

Elf has a number of questions tumbling through his head, considering. Who is the Emerald Queen? She sounds like a bad person. What does he mean about the reason people are being kept down? He accepts that this werecreature concern exists, but suspects Tanzime may simply be misunderstanding them, or that they are rightly rebellious, rather than that the speaker has an evil agenda. He shares in the hope of people becoming more equal.

i hope that's definitely-not-brainwashed enough
