I am so happy for the Song Contest. When I took my most recent hiatus, this was one of the things I missed most about the site. I've often seen it said that this is a place for many who otherwise don't feel they have a place on the site any longer, and while I navigate the waters of site culture, this definitely feels like a safe and happy place to be!
I haven't been around for a lot of its history. I mean, 14 years is so great and everyone who has hosted, entered and voted on songs, and helped to shape the contest as it stands today should be really proud of what we have! I know I am
Each time I vote in a song contest, I take the songs which ranked highest and put them into a playlist for later listening. Now I'm bad at actually doing said listening later, but I am really happy I have this song selection that I may have never listened to otherwise. It's not like, the top 3 or 5 or anything specific as a criteria, just the ones that really impressed me and I think are highest on my relisten radar. I also add my own entry each time, shifting it from my playlist of possible entries. Doing this has made me listen to songs so much more actively and critically than I already did. I listen for things that make a song pop, things that make it stellar, unique, or just plain of a higher caliber than your standard run of the mill radio bop. I shazam songs all the time now because I want to remember them in order to decide whether they are good enough to be entered here or if I will save them for my own enjoyment. I sometimes go to enter a song and find it's lost its magic, changing my mind to something I did not realize I wanted. It really has helped me explore music more critically and more openly, and I am so grateful it exists.

Spoiler: Happy 200th! =D
Spoiler: A Cursed Image
The top 3 were really hard for me to choose between here! I'm still torn on my ordering of them, they were all fantastic!
I actually really liked the top 6 and found the top 10 easy to choose but hard to order in a bunch of spots. After those ones it really dropped off hard though. There was a lot of diversity in this contest and a lot of it was just not for me. I'm glad a lot of it was though!
It was really nice to see so many submissions this round!

Ooo okie! Well I look forward to it! I love reading others' thoughts on the songs here. I often get a new appreciation for ones I'd previously dismissed. Good call Pink ball
Funny enough, this probably means you'd like the rest of the band's first three albums quite a bit (everything since then I haven't been too fond of). This song is pretty different from how they usually sound imo.
Ooo interesting! I'll have to give them a listen next time I get a chance then!
