I think just dropping the BG makes it balanced ish?

Both cop 9er and vig 9er are playable, and having the RB should be a significant boost for scum in a micro.

I don't know that it's compelling play wise, but it's probably workable.

The issue is that evens just lends itself better to gimmick setups (Nightless/Nightstart/Lovers) and/or setups with guaranteed extra kills, and guaranteed extra kills is a rough thing to deal with in micro setup design.
This is a Parachute.

Speaking of Nightstart:

Vengeful GOATS
2 Mafia Janitors
8 VT

Every night, the dead thread votes on a player to kill via plurality. That player dies without a flip. Nightstart, Standard Eliminations, No flavor difference between Factional kill and Dead thread kill. Standard win conditions.
This is a Parachute.

sounds good for a basic 8 player setup

though yeah idk if it will be fun, but I want an 8 player setup that is newbie-friendly

Are they? I think in Cop 9er the Cop gets an n0 check and I think Vig 10er is statistically very balanced

Cop 9er with a mafia safe claim has an observed win rate of 43% in matrix 6. Regular cop 9er is strictly better for town.

I don’t have data available on vig 9er, given that it’s not a particularly popular setup, but I remember it being considered balanced in ye olden days. Also the difference between vig 9 and vig 10 is very small, from an ev standpoint (both are presumed scumwin after two bad cycles). If you have conflicting stats I’d be happy to see them to make a more informed judgment.

17 players:

10 Vanilla Townies
1 Town Parity Cop
1 Town Leader
1 Town Co-leader

3 Mafia Goons
1 Mafia Leader

The Town Leader is informed of the identities of the 3 Mafia Goons but not the Mafia Leader. The Town Co-leader is informed of the identity of the Town Leader. If the Mafia have all been eliminated, then the Mafia Leader has 48 hours to submit their guess as to who they think the Town Leader is. If they are correct, the Mafia win instead. Town Leader flips as Vanilla Townie.

Would someone be willing to review this? I'm planning to run it in the Large Theme queue in a month or two.

Assassins in the palace. It’s an archetype with a king whose death loses town the game and scum with venge shots. There’s a few variations. Generally it suffers from it being vastly better for town to discuss nothing.

I think yours is more similar to Avalon with the extra roles, fwiw.

Jester

Cop
Vanilla Town
Vanilla Town
Vanilla Town
Vanilla Town

Odd Night Mafia Goon
Odd Night Mafia Blocker

Even Night SK

What do you all think? I call the setup "Christmas Tree" it's supposed to be a Christmas theme game.

Jester can be replaced with Survivor, Executioner.
Cop can be replaced with Doc. Vigilante if you're feeling dangerous.

It's probably acceptable as a meme game with blitz deadlines and a vig. The cop is basically irrelevant and mafia have literally no need to have a blocker here.

I mean... there's precedent for that, though. No one signs up for Jester Nightless hoping to be town, but Jester Nightless is still an enjoyable game for the majority of people who play it.

I think bb is referring to the fact that it’s almost guaranteed town loss there.

If I were to take a crack at it in what I think is your desired play style:

1 game ending jester

1 Vig
4 vt

2 Novice goons

1 1 shot bp novice SK

Town has two days to be relevant, jester can’t be too scummy or they get shot, neither mafia nor SK can lose without being elimmed on n1.

It’s a very swingy game, but there’s less chance of a faction being forced to play an unwinnable game and there’s still massive potential for cross kills. Probably a 2-3 day meme game regardless of actions.

probably needs tweaks for balance and stuff but i like this concept, and was wondering how fun/unfun others would find this mechanic

tweaks i'm considering and would like some input on:
- guns and bombs could be disabled in elo maybe?
- maybe make the present a two-shot thing? idk

Ole Saint Nick's Perilous Presents
Premise

Oh no! The
Bad Kids
have deleted the naughty list.
Ole Saint Nick
will have to resort to some rather...
unconventional
techniques this year.

Roles

1 Ole Saint Nick
8 Good Kids

2 Bad Kids

Setup Info

-
Ole Saint Nick
is aligned with the
Good Kids
(the town).
- Each night,
Ole Saint Nick
may target any of the other players to give them a
Gun
or a
Bomb
.
- Either option will result in the target receiving a
Present
, but the target will not know if it's a
Gun
or a
Bomb
.
- Additionally, at the start of each day, the moderator will announce the recipient of the
Present
.
- The recipient of the
Present
may open it at any time by posting "
Open Present
" (in bold) in the game thread.
- If the recipient opens a
Bomb
, they will die instantly, and the day will continue with the vote count reset.
- If the recipient opens a
Gun
, they will receive one
Day Vig
.
- A
Day Vig
may be used by posting "
Shoot: {Player}
" (in bold) in the game thread. This instantly kills the targeted player, and the day will continue with the vote count reset.
- The
Bad Kids
(mafia) have a private thread (with day-talk) and a factional kill they may use each night.
- This game starts on a day phase (aka day-start) and uses majority vote elimination mechanics (which is typical of most games).

Welcome to Perilous Presents! You are
Ole Saint Nick
.

Each night, you may target another player to give them a
Present
, containing your choice of either a
Gun
or a
Bomb
. No players, aside from you, will know what is inside the
Present
. The recipient of the
Present
will be announced at the start of the next day by the moderator. Players may choose to publicly open the
Present
at any time. If a player opens a
Bomb
, they die instantly, and the day continues with the vote count reset. If a player opens a
Gun
, they receive one
Day Vig
, allowing them to publicly kill any other player during the day (if this occurs, the game will continue with the vote count reset).

You win if both of the
Bad Kids
are dead. Please confirm by responding to this message with the name of your role.

Welcome to Perilous Presents! You are
Good Kid
.

You have no special abilities.

You win if both of the
Bad Kids
are dead. Please confirm by responding to this message with the name of your role.

Welcome to Perilous Presents! You are
Bad Kid
.

Each night, your faction may kill one other player. While you are alive, you may talk to your faction in this private topic.

You win if your faction controls half of the votes, or if nothing can prevent this from occurring. Please confirm by responding to this message with the name of your role.

i'm not entirely sure on this one!

i think it might end up being to town's advantage to play saint nick as deep as possible, no lim by default, and then force the gifted kid to open presents or be eliminated

scum generally shouldn't want to open presents since they don't have the numbers in case it's a bomb, town wants to open presents except in ELO and will probably get more accurate at vig shots as the game continues

seeing as you can guarantee vig shots to town leaders their shot accuracy
should
be better than a hypothetical rolled 1-shot dayvig?

so it's likely that town just wins if they can vend a bomb to or dayvig a scum

Fundamentally no difference in the amount of kills that'll happen going all Gun vs all Bomb other than you can accidentally give a Gun to scum so what's probably gonna happen is everyone gets bombs and if you don't open your present it's a scumclaim which is basically no different than just having Nick be a Publishing Loyal Vigilante

There is additional utility in dayvig in that a dayvig on scum functionally conftown the shooter.

what if i removed the announcement of the recipient? so only the recipient and OSN (ole saint nick) know? would open up more interesting claiming situations and make the game slightly harder for town
