I disagree with Yosarian2.

I find fonz' reasoning to prett pretty solid. Like mentioned in the OP, I wanted to hear it from the man himself but it was 2am and I couldn't get to the beach today to bug him about it endlessly.
Sometimes a sandwich is just a sandwich.
