This tournament is rigged. The best game already lost. Also, why the fuck did the best two games in this entire set of matches have to go against each other?
Race for the Galaxy
Spades
Life
Mornington Crescent
Hungry Hungry Hippos
War
Checkers

Yea, but I read that the Weisburg rules make the game too easily broken if you understand the Lyre dynamic theory. That's why the competitive standard has shifted to the Tabitha ruleset.

Those guys are steeped in their own dusty standards and can't get out of their own way. The only sanctioning body worth listening to is World Association of Mornington Crescent, and they firmly back the Yardsman Variation.
Actually, I disagree. The International Mornington Crescent Association quite clearly is the most reliable source of rulings on the game, ever since they were formed from the merger between AMCA and EMCA. The Yardsman Variation is more of an alternate competitive format that is used in some tournaments as a sideshow. After all, there's a reason it's called a variation.

Guys, guys, guys. You're not thinking this through. Ever since the Hypy Feint was invented back in 2001, Gilman's has been practically obsolete at international competitions. That's why Stewart Dunbar has had 6 world championship victories in the last 8 years...he figured out how to combine Hypy with the Protheus Swap to double his guardian tokens by the third turn and just completely dominate the mid-game with swarm tactics. By the time they reach endgame he can just go on autopilot by locking into the Sol Pattern for a finishing sweep. It's almost to the point where I think we need a new standard altogether. Have any of you heard of the Maher Proposal yet? They're trying to mitigate the time dilation factors in the current standard by introducing a clockwise reduction in supply every third turn. It really looks promising but I haven't actually gotten a chance to play it yet.

Seriously, why do all the best games have to go up against each other? BHH, 7W, SoC, and GoT are clearly the best of this group. Also, Operation over Chess for the lulz.

...and yes, most of those are anti-votes. I could care less for Risk (the original, anyway), Connect Four, Scrabble, Hungry Hungry Hippos, and Trivial Pursuit. However, all of the games they're going up against either deserve to lose or it's too funny to let them win (ie Go).

Buggered if I know, I'm selling all my Magic cards, and yet I'd still say it's the better game by a mile and then some.
Because Balderdash is a really good game.
So is MTG, but at the end of the day I voted for the game I have gotten the most enjoyment out of. I have played both a lot, but MTG has a lot of limitations (the monetary downside of being a TCG is one of them, obviously, but there are others) that made it less enjoyable for me. I grew up playing Balderdash with my family, and it has a special place in my heart. It's a really great game for both intellectuals and people who just want to mess around and have a good time. It's a beautiful concept.

As far as apples to apples goes, if it wins this week, it will easily lose to chess, so I am not too worried. I am still upset the ticket to ride and the running asians game are both out.

Match 53 is a match of hate. I love roleplaying games, but D&D is perhaps my absolute least favorite, and I refuse to play it. I love most of the Risk expansions (2210, Godstorm, etc), but the original Risk game is godawful. The only thing that gave it the win is that Mith somehow decided that the Risk expansions were equivalent to regular Risk in terms of this tournament. Very saddening, since they are comparable in quality AT ALL.
