If the mafia choose to relinquish all of their knowledge, becoming part of the uninformed majority instead of the informed minority, there is absolutely nothing the town can do about it. Skill will be useless so long as everyone is part of the uninformed majority. In this case, the mafia have a 57% chance of winning. Of course, mafia do not give up their knowledge as they are able to achieve a win rate higher than 57% with it.
Although statistics do not matter for individual games, they are relevant regarding the scumsidedness of the setup.
Bymfia relinquishing their knowledge they're playing against the spirit of the game.
They'e required to give out the first gun in the discussion anyway, whether they use the day talk as well later is up to them.
In any case, town has won all times (1) the setup has been played so far.

The Opening Post (well actually the 2nd one here, but it's a carry on from the first so that it's not too much effort for editing) generally has uptodateish information, otherwise counting for completely up to date information.
