Maybe I could run it with only 13 players?

How many rounds would that be? I think 13 players 13 rounds is probably a bad idea. (Although I'd be willing to sit out and do sub duties, which would give me more flexibility to cover picture rounds.)

I might be willing to do sub duties, or mod.
I prefer the symbols myself.

I prefer having access to symbols--but either way, I'm off the next round.

That's because I seem to be in a minority wanting to experiment with no symbols.

Considering that so many sentences have given people so much trouble without the restrictions, I don't think it'd be a good idea - not for picture quality, and not for deadlines.

Plus, some of the most enjoyable pictures have used symbols extensively (off the top of my head I point to Scigatt's picture in this chain)... And they can mutate the chain more than other "natural" images do. RECK's misunderstanding in here changed that chain dramatically - and possibly would have done moreso if it occurred in a later round or a different chain.

And then where do we draw the line on symbols? Would drawing a border to represent something changing in a scene count as a symbol? And if that was banned, what would stop people from just drawing two different pictures that simply don't have a line? Is drawing a clock banned? It often has the same purpose as a simple arrow symbol. And drawing clocks is something that won't leave - people mention that the time is 7:30, and the next picture has a clock that says 7:30. Would you be allowed to draw an arrow, as in the projectile, that could be interpreted as a progression arrow? Or, for example, a snake and a tennis ball that are shaped to be a question mark?

tl;dr of the last bit - There are workarounds to every restriction, that some people would still use, and that I would say decrease the quality more than drawing arrows and question marks does. And in a game about interpretation, why should the mod determine which things are interpreted as what?
no.

What would class as symbols?

Could you are argue stickmen are symbols for example?

stickmen aren't symbols.
clocks are OK.
arrow as projectile is OK.
snake and tennis ball - not symbol.

ok ok ok

Just draw all your own pictures without symbols and see what happens. (which should include countries flags)
I think I overused exclamation and question marks this game, so just doing it by myself would probably be somewhat of a challenge.

Man, modding these things is still ridiculously easy, whatever StrangerCoug tells you. I had a bit of an advantage because I don't have much reason to sign in as Ether at all when I'm busy being Telephone Cat, but as long as you actually refresh the modding account sometimes, everything else came pretty intuitively to me.

(By the way, I'm not sure I've thanked Fujiko yet. Props to her for carrying this game to the end, and keeping consistent track of what she could send out nonlinearly, and doing it all across 21 spreadsheets! She was pretty awesome.)

Post 409, Ether wrote:Hmm. I think I'm basically happy with the .csv reader now. It can't work with a google spreadsheet directly, but if you feed it the .csv data it'll give you full index and subpage formatting, covering all phrases and pictures and recognizing replacements. (There are a few obscure ways to trip it up that shouldn't be in sentences anyway, and it doesn't account for HTML, BBCode or multi-line entries, but it's basically at the point where I'm confident in any mod's ability to handle the rest.)

This doesn't help Fujiko, because her spreadsheet isn't a carbon copy of mine and programming is haaaard, but if anybody's interested in this track I can rewrite the generator to also include a .csv file for google spreadsheets to import at the beginning. That way at least all future spreadsheets can be carbon copies of mine and therefore be compatible with this program.
This still stands, by the way!

If I don't get accepted into quantum camp(that's what I'm calling it) this summer, I'd be interested in modding, but in late April by the latest.

Thanks, Ether :)
I'd actually like to mod another one. I was less than pleased with my performance, and I enjoy modding things in general.
Not sure I want the next one, though. I'd do it if nobody else wanted it, but that doesn't appear to be the case.
I might play...

I thought my pic there was shit, personally. As for sudden changes in a chain from picture misinterpretation, this one is the most dramatic I can recall.

I'll write the program tomorrow, but don't let that stop anyone from starting a new thread. Signups take ages.
