{ Here are 10 pairs of moves (20 half-moves) ... } 1...Rf7 { What it looks we are going to do. This protects b7 without removing the rooks from the columns where they are and without removing the queen from the square where it is. } 2.a3 { Did any of you really think they would give up this pawn for no reason or move their rook back to a1 or their white squared bishop to b1 in order to protect it? } 2...h5 { Good, active pawn move } 3.b4 { Now look at the fact that if our side attacks the knight on g4, then their side can avoid the knight's capture if they attack the queen on a5. Sacrificing their a3 pawn NOW will give them an opportunity to exchange material advantage for positional opportunity. They should take into account the plan of sacrificing a3 pawn for the sake of b4 to advance to b5, to which our response - to avoid two pawn on the b-file, could be Nb4, which gives them the reward for their pawn sacrifice: allowing their knight to escape to e5. See this play out in the next few moves I give in the following line ... } 3...Qxa3 { The first step in trying to refute a sacrifice is to accept it. The positional consequence of accepting a sacrifice is an important thing. The important thing is this: We are not losing in this position. } 4.b5 { As I said, b4 allowed b5, which kicks out our knight from c6 (we don't want two pawn on the b-file via axb5) and the knight's moving (likely to b4) would allow g4 knight to escape to the central e5. This all would sweeten the pot of sacrificing a3 pawn with their b4 move. } 4...Nb4 { A move that some of us may have had in view. } 5.Ne5 { The a3 sacrifice is a material sacrifice for a positional opportunity. Centralizing their knight during its escape from g4 is the reason for the previous b4, b5 maneuver. } 5...Rfe7 { The strategy here is more support for the e-pawn's possible promotion. The g7 bishop targets the knight in front of the e-pawn. The knight might be able to deploy to d6 to attack the queen that is in front of the knight that is in front of the e-pawn. But worthy of note is the possibility that this position puts our queen in a queenside zugzwangish quagmire with Ra1 and follow-up; and if white wants to secure a draw, it very well could. } 6.Ra1 { The rook is now powerful for them on the a-file: Our queen now treads carefully and gingerly to b3, for instance. } 6...Qb3 7.Rfb1 { The other rook targets the queen. } 7...Qc3 { Sidesteps to c3 } 8.Rc1 { Targets queen. } 8...Qb3 { sidesteps to b3 } 9.Rab1 { Rinse and repeat strong targetting queen on b3 } 9...Qa3 { Back at a3. Rinse and repeat } 10.Ra1 { again at a-file for their rook. } 10...Qb3 { again at b3 } 11.Rab1 { Do they want to just rinse and repeat here? }

if Nh2, then h4 attacks bishop with nowhere for the bishop to go. So what 25. b4 does is allow a subsequent advance to b5 to attack our Nc6 knight, and if we move that knight, then it is viable for White to move the g4 knight to Ne5. If we attack b5 by way of axb5, the cxb5 renews the attack on the Nc6 knight.
