MafiaScum Squares

Post Post #0 (isolation #0) » Thu May 02, 2013 12:19 pm

I notice StrangerCoug used to run a version of this. Note that I will be handling some aspects of the game a bit differently than he did.

LOGISTICS:

For every game, a total of eleven people will be needed. I'm not making signups go in any particular way; but please note that when you sign up, you should specify whether you want to fill a contestant spot or a celebrity spot; if it's the latter, please also specify which square you'd like to fill on the grid below. My only true rule is that you refrain from taking the same square two games in a row.

In the first game, the first player to sign up for a contestant spot will take X, and the second will take O; from the second game on, the champion will take X and the challenger O.

RULES:

The player representing X starts the first round by picking a panelist. That panelist will be given a question. You can give a joke answer if you want, but please
underline
your actual answer. The contestant then decides whether that panelist gave the right answer (agree) or an incorrect answer (disagree). I'll give the answer. If they agreed or disagreed correctly, they get the square plus score money (explained later); otherwise, their opponent gets the square and the money, UNLESS that square would give them the win, in which case control would simply pass over.

If a panelist cannot come up with an answer for a question, the contestant can either answer the question themselves or pass on the question, in which case the answer is revealed and a new question given.

The first player to get three-in-a-row on the board (or capture five squares) wins the round, as well as some bonus money.

After the first round, the player trailing begins the next round, and the game continues in this fashion until time is called, at which point the player in the lead wins and advances to the bonus round. The other player keeps their cash, as well as any prizes won via the Secret Square. If there is a tie at the moment time is called, the contestant in control picks one more panelist and plays one more question for the current round's square value; a correct prediction wins the match, an incorrect prediction gives the match to the opponent.

SCORING:

The cash value of rounds increases as the game goes on, and regardless of who wins a round, both players earn money for each square captured. Round 1 is worth $1,000 PLUS $250 for each square won. Round 2 is worth $2,000 plus $250 for each square won, and the Secret Square is in play. Round 3 is also worth $2,000, but squares increase to $500. Round 4 and on, if time is available to play them are played for $4,000 and $1,000 a square.

THE SECRET SQUARE:

In round 2, the secret square comes into play. At the start of every Secret Square round, a prize is added to an accumulating jackpot of prizes, and a panelist is designated as the Secret Square. If either player chooses that panelist, a normal question is played. If the contestant responds "Agree" or "Disagree" correctly, they win the jackpot (which does not count towards the score) and the jackpot is reset for the next match; should the prediction be incorrect, the jackpot is simply carried over to the next match.

PICK A STAR, WIN A PRIZE:

At this point, each panelist is given an envelope. Each envelope contains various amounts of cash and prizes (ranging from about $5,000 to the top prize of $100,000). The winner chooses a panelist, whose envelope is revealed. The chosen panelist and the winner then play one Secret Square question; the winner MUST guess correctly to win the prize.

Whether or not a prize is won in the bonus round, the champion plays again in the next game, and can continue to do so until either they lose a match or win 5 matches.

DEADLINES:

After 48 hours without an action, a warning will be sent to the player/panelist in action; if 24 more hours pass without an action, one of the following will happen:

-If the player in action was supposed to pick a square, one will be chosen for them at random
-If a panelist times out answering a question, the question is deferred to the contestant, who has the option to pass and move to a new question.
-If a contestant times out agreeing or disagreeing, it is treated as if they responded incorrectly.

For the record, we aren't talking about that kind of camel. And we're not talking about
that
kind of camel, either. :giggle:

We're talking about a move in which the skater arches her back while extending her leg and arms. And the skater who pioneered a unique version of it, the "Hamill Camel", was DOROTHY HAMILL. Circle gets the square!

Actually, he's right - they couldn't put him in without it feeling forced. X does NOT get the square, because it would give JMJ three in a row, so JMJ, you'll have to earn it yourself.

After two days of laziness...

...decimalization is close enough. It was probably the biggest effect of the change from the Australian pound to the Australian dollar. X gets the square and the win!

[WIN CUE]

We'll quickly clear the board and get set for Round 2, it's worth $2,000 plus $250 a square. Also, if one of you finds the Secret Square and agrees or disagrees correctly, you'll win a very nice trip. My question for you, Shadoe Stevens:

TO WHERE??!?!?

[SECRET SQUARE MUSIC]

Shadoe: To
FLORENCE, ITALY!

(applause)

You'll fly to Florence aboard Delta Airlines. While in Florence, you'll stay for four nights in a Deluxe Resort View room at the St. Regis Florence. We'll also provide you with Delta Sky Passes, a rental car, and travel insurance. This trip is worth $7,138; from Delta Vacations!

(more applause)

You're right to agree, it IS the US, and X gets the square and the game!

JMJ: $8,250
Monkeyman: $1,250

[TACKY HORN]

And judging by the looks of it, that's the match too.

Monkeyman, I'm sorry you couldn't manage to win a round, but you do take home the $1,250 for the squares you earned. You're more that welcome to re/in.

Bonus game later.

...

HE'S RIGHT!

JMJ, as it is, you've won $58,250 in cash and a $7,138 trip to Florence - put those together and you have a one match total of
$65,388
!

To the panelists in this first game, thank you. You're free to re-/in if you'd like to.

As for the next game, sending out PMs to those in the queues now.

For center square, the random number generator will choose who gets it.

...

Keybladewielder!

So as it stands:

StrangerCoug - top-left
Nobody Special - top-center
Bowser - top-right
Keybladewielder - Center Square
Faraday - center right
Salmonella Dreams - lower-left
Antagon - lower-center
Puzzledan - lower-right

(if you didn't specify, your position was chosen through the RNG.)

Just waiting on CuddlyCaucasian to /confirm so we can start.

OK, I only just now realized that Antagon just re-/inned, and wasn't on the waiting list. Scigatt, please accept my full apologies.

Here's how I'll handle this; since Scigatt was on the waiting list in the first place, Scigatt gets in on this game, as well as CuddlyCaucasian. In exchange, Antagon will have first selection on the grid for game three.

If CuddlyCaucasian fails to check in in 48 hours, Antagon gets back in, and CuddlyCaucasian gets first priority next game. Sound fair.

Are any of the corner squares interested in switching places with Scigatt?

I know it's coming right out of left field, but I did screw up and I need to fix the problem soon.

OK, yes, I f***ed up. If you're unhappy about where you are on the board (or for any other reason), send me a PM and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

As for the question at hand, 52% regretted marrying their first husband. X gets the square!
