OK great we'll give it a go!

Everyone who said backup or tentatively /in are currently officially in as that gets us just to 8 now which is a pretty respectable league.

I created the league in yahoo so shortly I'll be sending out a PM asking for email addresses for the league invite.

Some tweaks to the yahoo default scoring:
-Positions: 2C, 4W, 4D, 2G, 5Bench
--instead of 2 LW, 2 RW, I instead changed it to 4 W - wing position isn't really as rigid as positions in football or baseball, and since we have some people that don't follow hockey religiously it should make roster management a bit easier for everyone.
--added an extra bench slot (5 instead of 4) since we'll be a smaller league.
-"Positional" stat categories (G, A, +/-, PIM, Hit, Blk) - removed PPG and shots, replaced with Hits and Blks - reasoning is to balance out the offensive and defensive stat categories a bit. PPG are already counted in goals, and total shots is kind of a lame category anyways.
-"Goalie" stat categories (W, GAA, S%, Shut out) - these are default.
-League is H2H- one win - so just like the fantasy baseball league right now. You'll get matched up weekly, and whoever wins the most stat categories gets a win for the week.
-Snake draft
-Roster changes (add/drops) can be made daily up to 5 min before the players game begins. But only 4 additions can be made each week.

Any questions or any suggestions for changes let me know. I tried to set it up more as a fun league and less "hardcore".

We need a draft time so post here and let me know what good times are. The season starts next tuesday October 1st but league week 1 runs through october 13th so we can draft a couple days into the start of the season and delay the start of the league a few days if we need to. I registered the league with a draft time next sunday the 29th at 7:00 PM eastern so we can use that if it works for everyone or change it, whatever.

We have 6 confirmed in the league right now (Me, Drench, bv310, CES, scotmany12, Trollie)

1 outstanding invite is Kmd.

Neither kats or SK have sent me their email yet, we're going to need 1 of them to bring us up to 8 teams.

Based on feedback,
draft is now scheduled for this Sunday the 29th at 3:00PM Eastern
. If that doesn't work for anyone, let me know.

So right now the league is sitting at 8. There is still an invite out to KMD which would make 9.

We need 1 more /in to make an even 10. Lacking that, we'll either have to bump someone to go with 8, or switch to a different format (roto) so even numbers don't matter. H2H is more fun than roto IMO so I'd rather stick with that and I'd much prefer adding a 10th than bumping someone so... someone else please /in?

Reminder: draft is this

Thanks sudo for being the 10th :)
In post 33, Katsuki wrote:If I need to be bumped for KMD just tell me ahead of time so I know not to show up for the draft. :P
At this point, here is what we'll do. All 8 who have already joined the yahoo league are in no matter what. Kmd and Sudo will be 9 and 10 if they both join. If one of them doesn't make it in for whatever reason, then we'll just have to go with the 8 already in. I'll be out the rest of the day today, and I don't want to bump anyone only a couple hours before the draft after they made arrangements and all.

Here is what random.org says the draft order will be. Feel free to plan accordingly:

if 10 players:

crywolf20084
bv310
scotmany12
Katsuki
Kmd4390
Cogito Ergo Sum
Sudo_Nym
Drench
TheTrollie
Rhinox

(lol FU random.org)

if 8 players:

TheTrollie
Katsuki
scotmany12
crywolf20084
Rhinox
Drench
bv310
Cogito Ergo Sum

10 teams are in :). Draft order is set. With 10 teams, I set up 2 divisions of 5 teams each (randomly chosen). 4 playoff spots (2 division winners + 2 wild cards). Custom schedule is set (play in division 3x per, out of division 2x per, 22 weeks total). Weeks 9-12 are "rivalry weeks" - which doesn't mean anything really, other than those are the 4 weeks where all the games are against the other division. With 10 teams, extra bench slots reset to 4 from 5. Draft is a go, will be in approx 2 hours and 10 minutes from now. Draft is snaking, 16 rounds, 1:30 max per pick, 160 total picks.

See you all in a couple hours :)

There is a mobile app. Mine just updated this morning (Android). Before today, it wouldn't actually recognize 2013 fantasy teams but I'm assuming it should now with the update.

First NHL game is at 7 eastern tonight. (Toronto/Montreal)

So hey NHL trade deadline was today

1 of 2 exciting days for sabres fans this year (the second being the draft lottery...)

Luongo being traded to florida was a pretty big surprise.

I feel really bad for the islanders and what they lost in the whole moulson/vanek dealings. kind of. Good for the sabres, though.

Rangers will be fine. Still sitting in the 3rd playoff spot in the weakest division, 6-3-1 in your last 10... pretty good chances they'll be in the playoffs.

Detroit and Columbus moved from the western conference to the eastern. Winnipeg (formerly the Thrashers) moved from the eastern conference to the western. Now there are 16 teams in the Eastern conference and 14 teams in the western (everybody has OCD and hates the non-symmetry). There are now only 4 divisions (2 in each conference), and they didn't get very creative with the division names. They justified "atlantic division" because all the teams were either near the atlantic or along the St. Lawrence seaway. Everybody hates "Metropolitan Division" the most though. There are rumors about adding a couple more expansion teams. Seattle is the spot most rumored to get one for sure. Most other realistic options are in the east, which would likely push detroit back to the west whenever expansion happens anyways >.>

yup and there has also been talk that the Toronto market could support a 2nd team (Hamilton, probably)
In post 123, shaft.ed wrote:Just seems that keeping detroit central keeps the established rivalry with Chicago and has keeps symmetry between East/West at the very least.
Though 2 expansion teams would be great for balance and making it less ridiculous that over half the league goes into the playoffs.
The big issue for Detroit was having to play more games in many different timezones. Specifically, traveling to the west coast meant if a game started at 7, then it would feel like 10PM to the players. And since they were division/conference opponents, it was more likely they couldn't have a day off after a trip to the west coast, meaning after a game finished up ~1AM they might have to fly back to detroit and be ready for a game by 7PM the next night. Also, detroit will likely benefit from playing more of the larger market eastern teams. It was the Detroit ownership that was most vocal in moving to the Eastern conference. In any case, there are potentially new rivalries for them. Boston, Toronto and Montreal are in the same division now so they'll play each of them 4 or 5 times a season, and they'll play the rangers 3 times a season, so thats 4 of the original six they'll be playing a lot more than they were in the west. They'll still play Chicago twice a year (new schedule means every team plays 1 home and 1 away vs. every team in the opposite conference) anyways. And hey, being in the east this year is likely the only reason they get to keep their consecutive playoff streak alive, as its highly unlikely they'd have made it out of the west.

heh so last night my wife and I were watching the pens game (she's a huge pens fan) and during the 3rd period every time the announcer would say how much time is left she would respond "X minutes left in the blue jackets season." Well she did this 3 or 4 times, and then with about 10 minutes left I asked her if she was trying to jinx them. She responded that it hadn't jinxed them yet. And of course like 20 seconds later CBJ scored 1. Then a few minutes later they scored 2. Each time I would ask my wife sarcastically how much time CBJ had left in their season. After the 3rd goal she was pretty pissed at me and told me to stop talking. Fortunately for me the pens held on, but hopefully my wife learned a valuable lesson about fucking with the hockey gods lol.

I have to say, even though I was rooting for the pens (happy wife, happy life), I kinda would have been ok with columbus winning. They're a hard team to dislike.

OK I've renewed the league from last year. Everyone who was in the league last year should have just got an invite.

If anyone didn't get an invite or anyone new wants to join, let me know and I'll send you a link for joining the league.

For those who were in the league last year, was everyone fine with all the rules and scoring settings, or is there something we should probably change?

oh. Should have it now. Apparently the "remind" function doesn't work unless a prior invite has already been sent.

1: yahoo
2: its typically not recommended, but yes it is possible. We try to find a day/time that works for everyone

speaking of, what day/time works for everyone for the draft? Also, so far we have 5 in the league, so we do need at least 1 more, though if we can get to 8 or 10 that would be even better.

Alright so regular season starts 1 week from today which means we gotta get a few more people and a draft time ASAP.

We've got 7 now once PEG joins so we need at least 1 more.

I created a whenisgood event to help decide on a draft time. Click here to access:
http://whenisgood.net/bsetqzb

Just highlight the times that work for you and submit (you can click and drag). Make sure to set your timezone first. We really only have this weekend to draft. Friday, monday, or tuesday 7PM eastern or later, or Sat/sun anytime are available options.

So we have 8 in the league and 5 responses to the whenisgood survey. The only times that work for everyone who responded is 5PM or 6PM eastern time this afternoon.

Its short notice so if anyone can't make it let me know and we can maybe reschedule for next weekend. It'd be after the season started but we should still be ok. Let me know ASAP obvs.

yeah so that was no where near enough notice and only 3 of us showed up for the start of the draft so we'll reschedule.

Ignore the current autodraft results I'm resetting it as soon as it finishes up.

You guys mean tomorrow as in today (sunday)? If enough ppl are around I'm not against it. We could also do tomorrow or tuesday afternoon sometime after 5PM eastern or if that doesn't work we can just draft next weekend. It'd be a few days after the season started but not a big deal really.

ah crud I'm not going to be able to draft at 5. Its right when I finish up work and I thought I would just hang out at my work computer and draft but it doesn't seem to work on my PC.

I'm fine with autodrafting if everyone else is ready to draft. Otherwise, would anybody be bothered with drafting say Saturday at 5PM EST?

So we successfully drafted. We had 6 live drafters (Me, Cay, PEG, bv, Feirei, and Aronis I think?) and AGAR who we knew couldn't make it due to work and stuff. I hope nobody is too disappointed in their draft results and in the future I'll try to be a little more organized so we don't have any of this last minute notification. Here are the results. PIM's are weirdly considered positive stats. It is assumed aggressive, physical players tend to get penalized a lot, but are generally considered a net positive for their team.

That's not really a fair assessment. They showed up and played tough, they just weren't good enough. Every loss was 2-1 and they were missing 4 of what should have been their starting 6 defensemen (Letang, Ehrhoff, Maata, and Pouliot). With those 4 not only is their defense better, but they're also the only 4 defensemen who contribute offensively. Malkin and Perron were both playing injured. All the rangers literally had to do was shut down Crosby, who single-handidly kept the series from being a sweep by taking over game 2. Even fleury played stellar. If they were healthy, no question they beat the rangers. Rangers are already down 1-0 to the capitals.

I hate how they stop calling obvious penalties tho. You know they let everything go and then inevitably this gets decided by a puck over the glass >_>

I considered them over the caps in the second round but they just have so many injuries right now.

I'd expect fleury for game 2. Surprised he didn't play last night actually. He went through the morning skate as the starter yesterday morning. Malkin will also likely be back by round 2.

2 blowout game 7's was kinda lame.

Cup clinching game tonight for the pens. Never thought the pens would be this dominant.

I doubt there will be a dismantling. Before last game, pens had outshot their opponents (by a large margin) in 12 straight games. Sharks outshot pens last game but still lost. Sharks have not held a lead at all in the finals (they won in OT, so still have 00:00 playing time with a lead). The sharks could win, yes, but a dismantling would be a surprise. I'm ok with it. My wife's a pens fan, shes happy with they win and grumpy when they lose, so I'm happy too when they win.

Either way I feel my sharks pick was validated. :)
