So I just started playing Dota 2, I've really enjoyed it so far. I originally played a bit of LoL but never got into it, there was something about it that I didn't like.

My favourite characters so far are Viper and Luna.

So after playing 30 hours against bots I played my first multiplayer game and won! There was a really nice Lion who helped me without getting mad when I made mistakes, but I did fairly well with viper. I have a long way to go, watching some live games and the internationals really showed me how newbie I still am.

I don't really think i'm at the stage where I want to give out my ingame name BB, I only get a limited amount of time anyway to play.

Some hero's I want to try are Gyrocopter, Wisp and Nature's Prophet. So far I haven't found too many character's that I'm really good with.

It's so hard learning to play Support with bots... Wards are pretty useless with the set patterns they usually follow and the bot iq can be so frustrating. I saved Luna's life as CM with a freeze so she could get away, and after I die in the process she turns around and starts harassing with no hp instead of going back to base. She then get's killed >.>

I was happy that I got my 2nd pub win with viper today though.

Well coop bot matches have let me improve my hero pool without getting raged at.

What I mean is stat's like win/loss, don't these affect your queue spot?

You're win/loss does effect your MMR, but it's not visible to anyone--and only you can see your w/l record

If you're trying to silence people as a Bloodseeker it seems like you aren't going to be focused on the fight as well as you could be. The best defence is a strong offence, at least when your playing a carry who excels at fighting. And since he is is melee you need to get in close, so your basically giving them the means to kill you with an attack boost.

But i'm an ultra noobie still so you can just ignore me.

I played 1 game that was over an hour long, which sadly we lossed but it was close. I tried out Sand King for the first time which was probably stupid without trying him out, but we needed stuns and aoe.

Went 17/16/17 in the end.

Everyone was on steam but nobody was playing

Only got one game in today, but it was a 3v5 which we won convincingly even though the odds were against us. Ended up getting so fed at the end they just all disconnected except for an Axe.

I was a Viper with a Divine Rapier on top of my SB/Manta, go figure lol.

I've never really played against a huskar before, really caught me off guard. I was being a bit too aggressive in lane though against that lineup which is probably why I fed for a bit. That was a fun game though.

Can someone explain to me why people are saying "Trilanes are dead"?

I am still in the pub phase where every teammate you have is simple-minded and gets mad at you unless you do a 2-1-2 so if someone could explain this trilane/4p1 talk I'd appreciate it.

Unrelated: I am getting sick of these silly people who go into queue obviously with someone they know, pick carries and farm together and leave 2 supports in a lane. It makes me mad because they totally ignore the setup just to be with their friend, and lately they have been dying because of it.

Playing single draft has remarkably improved my gameplay, it's all I've been playing lately. It's helped me get so many new heroes I can play, forces me to learn in all situations instead of being an Admiral Bulldog lol. It is so much better than All Random which I hate because you don't have a bit of choice if you need supports/carries/counters. I always get screwed in all random >.<

I played a single draft and it was my first game with Bounty Hunter, other choices were terrible. Our Lycanthrope ended up Dc'ing at lvl 3 so it was a 4v5. Ended up going 23/2!

Track really shut down their Night Stalker and helped us farm.

Well AR could be 1 hero you can't play and a team that sucks together because you had no control. I have more fun and just think of it as a challenge, so I don't care about the extra gold.

AP is probably the best choice you're right, but only if you know what you are doing. I found myself continually picking Skywrath/Viper because I was too scared to branch out and I was playing them well. Since I'm new I don't really know everyone I can "play well" so I might change my view in the future but right now there is something about it I love. I have yet to get a bad hero or one that I couldn't figure out.

Actually, that's not true. I stupidly picked Morphling after seeing him played in pro and thinking he looked easy. Our team was terrible anyway, but that is one hero for the life of me I could not figure out. But, I chose him so it's my fault. ^^

Huskar nerf is actually really noticeable and hurtful.

By level 11 you're looking at 15 less agility which costs you two armor and 15 base attack speed both of which are actually a severe hit to Huskar as suddenly he's that much easier to kill with physical damage and the 200+% AS steroid on Bezerkers blood means the 15 base attack speed lost is suddenly costing you aronnd 1500 gold worth of attack speed items.

Huskar one of your main heroes and you are sad you aren't an ultimate tank anymore?

I've been in a bit of a slump lately, not winning many games.

I'm finding there is just no coordination between the team members. They never want to five man, they are always halfway across the map when we are trying to push mid or defend. Not to mention they always get caught out, or my personnel favourite; when you initiate and they continue to run back and leave you to die. >.<

Oh dota... it's a love hate relationship. It's not always like this and you do get good teams sometimes, but when you get those 55 minute games with people like this you just want to hit something afterward.

The unfortunate thing is at the level of play you guys are at, you HAVE to play a carry because your team is unreliable. Not trying to be like "Oh I'm in Very High so I'm awesome," whenever I play with people in lower ranks(AKA, a lot), I can't count on my team mates to carry.

Back in the days of Heroes of Newerth, which was basically Dota 1.5 at the time, I had a >50% win rate. The only way I got it up was by finding a group of players who consistently played at the same time as me that I could play with. I played support for my whole HoN career, and only started playing carries due to lack of others being able to in games I've been playing.

Joining a team for matches or just pub play is really important. You can't go at this game alone, you'll have a bad time. I know we've got our little MS community here, but I don't think we're all always on at the same time.

If we really wanted to try to congregate the MS community a bit more, we could all start trying to frequent the mumble. As silly as it sounds, not talking to players disconnects you from them. Once I talk to someone on mumble, I want to play with them more simply because I have a better sense of who they are.

tldr; find a team/group of players to frequently play with.

I have actually been playing support in most of my games, I don't mind it by any means but I haven't had a lot of chances to carry. The problem (or I should say, 'another' problem) is either your teammates usually spam rush carries as soon as the game starts, or ignore the fact that they might need to play support. I do have some experience with carries, Viper of course was my only hero when I first started that I could play. Last bit I've been branching out a bit more, playing more heroes like Luna, Bounty Hunter, Riki, Queen of Pain, but my selection pool just doesn't cover all the situations yet.

The reason I got into Dota was because my friend nagged me continually to download the game on steam, and %90 of the time I will be playing with him in pub games. It is nice to have a friend to play with and I enjoy the games a lot more. The communication is still a problem with your teammates though since it's always so uncoordinated. I totally agree with what everyone is saying though, it's usually the carries that are the trouble makers on the team. Sad thing is the bad ones are usually the ones who can't even take the slightest bit of advice.

Sure is fun when you get a good carry on your team though, it's that fact that makes the other games so frustrating.

Just played a 60 minute game (loss) that was really close. I think 56-54 for them in the end. I tried out Abaddon for the first time, really enjoyed playing him.

My case and point about earlier; We had a mid Spirit Breaker who died 20 times. If he hadn't of been a feeder for no reason we would have easily won. Those angry facepalm moment when he charges t3 towers for a kill and dies first. Or when he charges a full hp pudge whenn having about 100 hp himself... I had fun anyway, found a new hero I can play.

Certain situations i'm just not good in and I make poor decisions. Although if our team sucks and we are losing I tend to play more aggressive and die more which affects my k/d at the end. I get frustrated when you have to play 40 minute games when you know your going to lose at 15.

And sometimes I get Courage and Stupidity mixed up.

Had a really fun day today. I got the opportunity to pick some carries in games.

I won two games as Phantom Assassin, had only played her once before with bots. I'll definitely be adding her to my roster, I had kind of underestimated her before today.

My last game of the day I tried out Magnus for the first time. I should have tried him way sooner, he's awesome.
First game as mag = Soloes Roshan, Gets Divine Rapier Was just one of those games.

Earth Spirit seems like he will be a hero that will rely on the skill of the player, which I think is kind of cool. When everyone one of his skills has to be used together to be fully effective it will all come down to how well you can play him and strategize in the moment. I just love how his skills have so much combo potential. I got first blood in my bot game with him

Finally got to play DT It's awesome! I love the shorter time only being 20 minutes.

The drops aren't as bad as forum trolls were making them sound, I got an AM item on top of my other things so there is still a chance for non-crafting drops.

Question: I was playing Abaddon, and when Rosh pulsed my ult got refreshed and I was unkillable. Why did I start dying at lvl 2 rosh all the sudden?

The thing I love about Dota is that it only takes one game to make it all better.

This morning I had three terrible games as Warlock/Bloodseeker/Templar but then I decided to buckle down and really try a lot harder. Went 11-1 with PA, only died the once at the end in their base. Wasn't really a stomp, just a ton of close calls and near lost fights.

If your still having fun then having a couple good games might make it all better, but if it isn't fun anymore a break might be the right call.

I'm hardly one to give advice though, my whole life has been a waste and I have no willpower to change. I probably couldn't quit dota now if I wanted to

Wow, just had the biggest rat dota game ever. This pudge got fed all game, just had no chance to do anything.

Finally we got ultra lucky with crits andtook him down twice. He was greedy and didn't have buyback so we splitpushed to victory. They were just stunned when we won.

It's something I'd really like to try, but I think it would be hard to get going into something like that. The free equipment is going to be a disadvantage and when you see so many awesome items already on the workshop it's hard to imagine anything ever getting accepted.

Still, I think it would be a fun experience. I've always liked art and contributing to games, but i've never done 3D modelling before.

Too many carries fighting for farm is worse. And you wouldn't be able to kill or live until you're fat because everyone needs items D:

Well there are a few who don't need a ton of farm. Viper with a mek and possibly aghs can be just as good teamwise for supporting. I have even seen an influx of support alch's recently in pro games even. Sometimes greedy is good as long as you balance it properly.

Hi Rothwell. I would suggest Micro games as they have fun setups that can really spice up mafia. Regular games with no cool roles and hardly any power roles aren't my favourite either.

Oh gosh, what tier am I in... Have noobs feeding nonstop, have no clue what they are doing. (I am talking about my party MMR btw, I always stack with my friend.) Why is it when you get noobs who just suck the other team never has anyone of their same skill? Thanks balancing.

So far I have had the most success with SF, necromastery builds up so quickly with so many creeps and he has good aoe as well.

What counters a PA? I just went 12-0 with her in an awesome game.
The only trouble I have ever had with her was when I was against 3 blademails in a prior game. I'm thinking in terms of heroes though, not items like mkb or hh.

Could you look into finding a team with mics around your timezone to coordinate and practice? I always play better when another player has a mic and enjoys joking around/chatting in lane.

I have been practicing Lone Druid in lots of bot games, and yesterday I won a co-op game with him. I find team fights to be a real nightmare, but that could just be because it's against bots who have a billion nukes usually.

I was watching a game that had a Nature's Prophet/Medusa/Alchemist combo.

NP had medusa's trip shot and mana shield along with Alch's ult. He tore up heroes and had enough farm for a 15 minute rapier after Midas and Deso.

Am I the only guy who uses WASD to move the camera? QERF are set to my abilities, and occasionally TG or mousewheel if I play someone like Rubick who has a 4th skill.

As for micro I have Hero set to "Space" and my summons set to "Cmd" (which is the same as Alt on a windows pc). That way I only have to move my thumb a tiny bit to switch between myself and something like a Syllabear. And if I play chen I can cycle through them with C.

Seems to be working very well for me, I won my first Lone Druid game.

P.s.: My friend just taught me how to Deny with a right click the same as last hitting

After a couple months I finally played 10 ranked games and got my MMR. I was kind of expecting it to be low, i've been getting paired with a ton of idiots lately. 2.3k, meh what can you do.

I watched part of the replay, and luckily the caster didn't ever focus on my fail jungling (but he pointed out my very late 13-min midas >.>)

I wish you could see more creative lineups like Support Wraith more often. Something like a Wraith/Lifestealer/Ursa/Omni/Venge combo would be killer.

Same thing was happening to me but I thought it was just my internet since my steam chat was cut off at the same time. I can reconnect fine but when it happens in a teamfight you want to pull your hair out.

I got gifted a compendium yesterday by my best friend I got the axe immortal which made me sad, I was hoping for storm or DP. Ace, why didn't you keep the DK item? That thing looks sweet!
