Newbie 1455: How We Met The Mafia (Game Over!)

Hello Everyone. I am your friendly neighborhood IC. What that means is in addition to my game role which is randomly generated, I am here to help you with game mechanics and other questions of how to play the game. Feel free to ask me questions. You can get a good idea of the role of IC from here Being a good IC. Some things I may have to give a partial answer for because of the game being ongoing. If that happens, I will let you know why, and let you know that I will explain more fully after the game is over.

A few basics:

RVS (Random Voting Stage) and RQS (Random Questioning Stage)

are often used to get the game rolling. You will find that some people prefer one or the other, but both seem to get discussion going which is very important to the game. Especially for townies a lot of solid discussion helps make it easier to catch scum and figure out who the other townies are.

Lurking and Lying

. Lurking is not by itself a scum tell, however it is detrimental to town and it is much better to be active and asking questions, making reads, pushing on people, than to sit back in the sidelines. It is more fun too. Lying, especially in newbie games with the open 2 of 4 setup is very antitown. It can end up getting you lynched if you are a PR, or end up resulting in a CC if you are fake claiming. Just best to play your role as best as you can and not lie.

If you run someone up to L-1

(meaning only needing one more to lynch), then the next person to vote should state INTENT TO HAMMER and give the person being lynched a chance to respond. This way if it turns out to be a mislynch, the town at least has the information it needs from the player.

NL or No Lynch

is only an optimal play on certain circumstances in a game this size. Especially on D 1 it is better to have a mislynch than a NL. You still get information that is valuable in helping determine the scum.

Especialy on D1 it is important NOT to claim whether as a VT or as a PR unless you are at L-1 with intent to hammer on you, or it is very close to deadline to give people a chance to switch over to another wagon if you are a PR.

You are just giving the scum info they do not need to have, scum already has more info than town.

Sorry all I have been really busy, and with lack of activity in this game its much harder for me to analyze things and figure out who is scum and who is town.

A couple of things do stick out.

TCs comment about Dessew making a case on him but not voting for him, followed by Dessew voting for him and reminding people about L-1 and hammering feels very towny to me.

Taco is an un CCed Pr claim so obviously goes in the town pile.

Looking forward to seeing Bitmap's replacement since there is not much there at all so need clarification on that slot for sure.

TSO is probably town as well, his frustration seems genuine and not contrived.


As for TC, he is vote hopping a great deal, and in some cases his votes seem to be on whomever is the scummy "flavor of the day" so to speak. He posts a fair bit of stuff, however when looking at him in ISO, a lot of it seems more an attempt to appear to be scum hunting instead of actually scum hunting.

What part of HERE did you miss Teedy?

MS is a bit different from many sites that play Mafia. Which is why we have newbie games in the first place.

I noticed after I had just posted some reads and voted for my top scumspect you make a case that I am not here etc.

I twisted my knee on Thanksgiving and can only sit at the computer for so long.


IC note:
As for your assumption that because someone is not present or is lurking or replacing out means they must be the scum, that does not pan out. Most of the time, lurking and replacing out are null tells. Lurking is not helpful for town and pushing on someone to get in and contribute is a good thing to do, however do not fall the trap that active means town and not active means scum.

I am feeling a bit better about TC though not completely sold yet he is town, however this continual misrepping to try to make Taco appear to be lying, then voting for me because he thinks so and sos are town? Not because he thinks I am scum, He continually states that he thinks Taco is lying and is scum but does not VOTE FOR HIM.

HOW could I make a case when I was on vacation in TN with almost NO access to the net? (Seems my friend has measured service and only gets 10 gigs a month internet bah), then the hotel in GA had wonky wifi. Hence why I was on V/LA

PS I am back on our more stable net in Modesto and we are exploring options for better net than my friend has for us when we move to our new house.

They are not as tied to the net for either work or play as we are.

When I say wonky wifi at the hotel, I do not mean the speed (which was slow even when it did work), but it just did not work at all more than half the time.

I have a fair bit of towny feel for Dessew and Skelda which leaves TC I need to check on a couple of things on D 1 but IIRC he also had a wagon on him before it shifted over to the dude we lynched.

off the wagon I need to really look at D 1 again who did phokd replace? And I dont have much of a feel at all for Jason which bothers me because usually I get a strong read on him (albeit wrong sometimes but at least its strong lol)

The game just started a new day give people a chance to respond. Also why are you asking about that instead of reading up for yourself? Looking for the easy lynch ?

For example, I have been extremely ill since I got back from TN with superflu it turns out along with my fiance NS.

Don't you think if I were scum, knowing I was V/LA and then ill, that I would have at least sent in a kill? Or the other one too keep in mind there are two scum which have not been found out yet. I do not see an experienced player not turning in a kill. I would think it more likely to be an inexperienced player.

It seems to me that with the holidays and all it was a pretty slow game. I think we need to focus more on who is likely to be scum and not so much on the NK or lack of it.

IC comment: Always give intent to hammer and give the person a chance to respond, to claim, give reads etc., only exception is if there is no time before deadline. And I believe we did have time before deadline.

That being said, Dessew made some very good points on the Bitmap/phok slot. Dessew stays as my top town read.

It would fit with my VCA as well, as one off the wagon. I am beginning to have some doubts about my read on TC though with the replacement of GR for Jason. That hammer sucked. Especially with me being sick and not able to post much. I was going to give intent to hammer and give phok a chance to respond.

I made a case on you based on what I had at the time, how does that make me scummy?

The problem is there has been a fair bit of lurking in this game, which has made it harder to peg people. As for phok, my point I made still stands and that is even when I feel someone is likely to be scum, I still felt that hammer sucked. Yes he turned out to be scum, but the hammer still sucked.

I feel strongly enough about quick/derp hammers that I have it in my IC blurb I do at the beginning of every game. That hammer still sucked, and yes I could see a case being made for it being done to prevent a buddy from saying too much, however I have not had a chance to do more ISO research due to being ill and having a bad tooth, hence the reason I have not made a case yet.

I may be splitting hairs more here, but when no one really stands out, and there has been low activity overall, you kinda have to look at hairs.

First of all, I wanted to apologize to my partner and the mods for this game. I was seriously ill with Superflu early on, which was the reason I did not make sure we had a nk on Night 2. After losing my scum bud, I was sure I was going to lose this game.

Totally amazed at this win really.

The total irony is that because we did not do a nk on Night 2, it actually made Maurice's claim more believable.

Skelda, I felt for you when you said please lynch me and not make me do LYLO. I have been there as town so many times. I hate LYLO.
