yup and there has also been talk that the Toronto market could support a 2nd team (Hamilton, probably)

Though 2 expansion teams would be great for balance and making it less ridiculous that over half the league goes into the playoffs.
The big issue for Detroit was having to play more games in many different timezones. Specifically, traveling to the west coast meant if a game started at 7, then it would feel like 10PM to the players. And since they were division/conference opponents, it was more likely they couldn't have a day off after a trip to the west coast, meaning after a game finished up ~1AM they might have to fly back to detroit and be ready for a game by 7PM the next night. Also, detroit will likely benefit from playing more of the larger market eastern teams. It was the Detroit ownership that was most vocal in moving to the Eastern conference. In any case, there are potentially new rivalries for them. Boston, Toronto and Montreal are in the same division now so they'll play each of them 4 or 5 times a season, and they'll play the rangers 3 times a season, so thats 4 of the original six they'll be playing a lot more than they were in the west. They'll still play Chicago twice a year (new schedule means every team plays 1 home and 1 away vs. every team in the opposite conference) anyways. And hey, being in the east this year is likely the only reason they get to keep their consecutive playoff streak alive, as its highly unlikely they'd have made it out of the west.
I still can't bring myself to cheer for the Canadiens. I'm personally piling on the St Louis bandwagon this year, they deserve a Cup. Dallas would be cool too, if only because I kinda hate Anaheim.
So the wings got their faces shoved in. (not surprised)
I miss western conference hockey I also can't wait for the wings to not be in a transition anymore and grow up just a weeeee bit. they have some good new fresh players, but they are all still just babies. in 5 years MM. dem wings WILL be unstoppable once more.

heh so last night my wife and I were watching the pens game (she's a huge pens fan) and during the 3rd period every time the announcer would say how much time is left she would respond "X minutes left in the blue jackets season." Well she did this 3 or 4 times, and then with about 10 minutes left I asked her if she was trying to jinx them. She responded that it hadn't jinxed them yet. And of course like 20 seconds later CBJ scored 1. Then a few minutes later they scored 2. Each time I would ask my wife sarcastically how much time CBJ had left in their season. After the 3rd goal she was pretty pissed at me and told me to stop talking. Fortunately for me the pens held on, but hopefully my wife learned a valuable lesson about fucking with the hockey gods lol.
I have to say, even though I was rooting for the pens (happy wife, happy life), I kinda would have been ok with columbus winning. They're a hard team to dislike.
