[LGT] Game 1: Minority Rule [Game Over]

The masked men lead you and the other players down a long corridor and into a large parlour. Compared to the main hall's ostentatious - perhaps even gaudy - décor, this room seems to have a solemn aura. A series of long tables dominate one side of the room. Near them, a small alcove is curtained off. A number of small round tables are strewn about the room. And fifteen chairs are arranged in two arcs, facing a large monitor. The chairs look uncomfortably straight-backed; you discover this to be an illusion of form, as you take a seat. The lights are dimmed, a monitor turns on and shows another masked man, who addresses the room.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the first game of the tournament. In this game, you will all take the roles of political leaders of a nation called 'Erehwon'. In this nation, it is a fundamental belief that mob mentality is the most dangerous position, when it comes to making decisions. As such, all matters of political discourse are settled via minority rule votes. As potential candidates for leadership, your task is to ensure that your ideas are as radical as possible, so that you can win these elections. The people of Erehwon are counting on you."

With this, the monitor turns dark and the lights come back on. A large selection of finger food is being laid out on the long tables. Once again, you notice the curtained alcove; you realise that this is the voting booth which will be used for the elections in this game. Some of the players have moved their chairs to one of the smaller tables and are engaged in furtive whispering. The game is already in progress.

Description.

This game will consist of a number of rounds. During each round, a question will be asked, which can be answered with either a "yes" or a "no". Each player will have to decide whether to vote "yes" or "no" to this question. The players who form the minority in this answer will move on to the next round, whilst the majority will be removed from the voting.

Rules.

- After each question is posed, the players will be given 48 hours to discuss the political, social and economic ramifications of the topic, as they wish. Any and all private communication between players will be allowed at this time. Additionally, votes will be accepted during this time.
- After the discussion period, a further 24 hours will be given to players, to send in their votes. No private communication is allowed between players, at this time. If all votes are sent early, the voting period will be removed.
- Each player can vote with either a "yes" or a "no", by sending me a PM, with their choice. Only the first such vote will be accepted from each player, on each round.
- Additionally, any player who wishes to do so, can vote directly in the thread, by using the "bold" or "vote" tags. As above, only the first such vote will be accepted from each player, on each round. Additionally, such a vote supercedes a PM vote and will be the one used.
- The above is further superceded by any contractual arrangements.
- If a player fails to submit a vote and does not respond after a prod, they will automatically be placed in the majority.
- If a vote is split down the middle, or if there is unanimity, the round will be discarded and replayed.
- Once the number of voters is down to one (1) or two (2), the game will end.

Funds.

- Each of you has been given a starting loan of $100,000, to be used in this game. This amount is currently in your accounts and can be used as necessary.
- When a player is in the majority, they must pay $100,000 to the winning pot and an additional $50,000 participation fee. If their current funds are not sufficient for this, their account will be placed in debt, by the appropriate amount.
- The last one or two voters remaining will share the money in the winning pot equally and pay the $50,000 participation fee.
- After all necessary money transfers have been made and all contract provisions have been met, one player will be eliminated from the tournament. The selection for this player will be made as follows:
* Out of all the players who were in the majority in the first round, the one with the lowest amount of ending funds (or highest debt), will be selected for elimination.
* In the case of a tie, a die will be rolled, to choose between the eligible players.

You now have 48 hours for initial discussions. You may communicate privately with other players. If you also wish to do so, you may send in suggested questions to be used in the game's rounds. The first question will be asked in

Please note that a clarification has been added to the rules, regarding voting. As in all the games, contracts trump everything.

And with all the votes in, the first round is over. Private communication is now allowed, once again.

Before I announce the results, please let me make a clarification. For contracts to be valid, all participants must send me the relevant contract (or otherwise let me know that they agree to said contract, in some unambiguous way). Additionally, the contracts must not cause an impossibility. When a contract is accepted, voided, or completed, I will contact all signatories letting them know of this.

And now, back to the game.

The results for the first round are as follows:
Is democracy desirable?

Yes: Mist7676, Klick, Blackberry, Cheery Dog, Shiidaji
(5)

No: goodmorning, Piggygal15, xayzeck, puzzledan, Kublai Khan, D3f3nd3r, JDGA, PrivateI, SleepyKrew, DiplomatDC, Dessew
(11)

Those who answered "yes" are in the minority and proceed to the next round. Those who answered "no" will pay $100,000 each to the winning pot and a further $50,000 each, to cover their initial loan from the LGT office.

The winning pot is now at
$1,100,000
.

We will now begin the second round of the Minority Rule Game.

The question for this round comes to us from one of the contestants:

The second (and final) round of the Minority Rule Game is now over. We have reached a minimal minority of two players, and thus we can conclude this game.

The results for the second round are as follows:
Are you a Liar?

Yes: Klick, Blackberry
(2)

No: Mist, Cheery Dog, Shiidaji
(3)

Those who answered "yes" are in the minority and are victorious in this game. Those who answered "no" will pay $100,000 each to the winning pot and a further $50,000 each, to cover their initial loan from the LGT office.

The winning pot is at
$1,400,000
, so each of our winners (Klick and Blackberry) receives $700,000 (and must also pay $50,000 to cover their initial loan). Congratulations to both.

The candidates for elimination in this game are the majority of the first round. The current minimum funds for anyone in this group of people is $-50,000. I will reveal who gets eliminated in 24 hours ((expired on 2014-06-27 17:56:11)), after all contract provisions and money transfers are taken care of. Private communication is once again freely allowed, as you prepare yourselves for the second game.

You may also post any thoughts about the game, as well as comments regarding the moderation, or anything else you would like, until the final results are posted.

And the die has spoken.

Of the first round's majority, four players currently have the minimum account amount. The one to be eliminated from these is:

DiplomatDC
. His score is recorded at
-50,000
.

Thus, there are now 15 players left, who will move on to Game 2, which will be announced soon.
