Mini Theme 1588 - FTL: Faster Than Light - Game Over!

The Federation is dying. The rebels have captured most of our star systems. Only Fleet HQ remains, the last bastion of hope in the galaxy, along with a few scattered ships and bases still loyal to the Federal Government. We were one of those bases, forced to abandon our position under a rebel assault, escaping aboard a decomissioned ship that we managed to get space-worthy at the last second. Fourteen of us survived. Many lives were lost. But, hope remains. We intercepted a rebel transmission, just a few fragments of data... but contained in this fragment were plans for the final assault on Fleet HQ, a final offensive designed to end the war. To that end, they are deploying a fearsome flagship, an almost perfect ship designed to crush our fleet.

Now, I wait, for if there are rebels aboard, without orders from their masters, they will have to act...

Rules

1. I am the Lord thy Mod. My word is law. The mod reserves the right to amend these rules at any time.

2. Despite this, I can (and probably will) screw-up. Feel free to point out any errors you feel I have made. Any and all grievances should be dealt with via PM, so as not to disrupt the game. Remember rule one, though - ultimately, my decision is final.

3. Quoting of role PMs (aside from, y'know, names and QTs) is allowed. Quoting of other communications between you and the mod is not okay.

4. You may not discuss the game outside the thread unless permitted to do so by your role, and according to the restrictions of said role.

5. We have vote and unvote tags. I recommend using them to help avoid voting confusion. Note, though, that I operate under the assumption that improperly formatted votes are still valid - it just makes my job easier if you do it clearly. Also, try and ensure you make it clear who you are voting for - the use of full usernames is preferred, but if you must use shortened versions, make sure they are not able to be confused with other players. Be warned: if the mod misunderstands your voting intentions, the fault lies with you. You do not need to unvote in order to move your vote.

6. Lynches occur when a simple majority (50%+1) votes for them. No lynches are approved with 50% of the votes, as this is enough to prevent a lynch from going through. If the game reaches a deadline without a player reaching enough votes for a lynch, then there will be no lynch. Be decisive.

7. Once a majority is reached, no further votes or unvotes will be counted.

8. If you die, you die. No posts may be made by deceased players after their lynch is confirmed by the mod.

9. Day phases will last a maximum of three weeks and night phases will last a maximum of 3 days, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

10. Stay active! Players will be prodded if they don't post within a 72 hour period without prior warning. If you intend to be V/LA for any period of time, please post it in the game thread so the players and the mod will know where you are. Persistent offenders will be forcibly replaced. You have been warned.

11. Play nice. Try to moderate your language and be civil and respectful to all players. It is, afterall, just a game.

12. All contributions to the game must be explicit and open - no hidden text or cryptography is allowed.

13. The most important rule, lucky 13.... have fun!

Special Rules:

The Captain is the most important person on a starship. As a result, your crew will always have a captain, who will be named in this post. Initially, the Captain will be selected at random - meaning that their alignment is NOT confirmed and they may have any other ability that exists in the game. The Captain can field promote a first officer, who takes over if the Captain dies. In game terms, the captain has a one-shot Governor ability, which they can use in order to prevent a person from being lynched. They may NOT target themselves, and the single shot is restored if there is a change of captain.

When the crew turned and began to force him towards the airlock, he did not go quietly. Dodging ferocious Mantis claws, you finally secure him in the airlock. Before you can press the button to depressurize the airlock and vent him into space, the banging of his claws against the door ceased for a moment, and a venomous hiss could be heard.

It was a long night, as the threats of the dead Mantis played on most of your minds all night long. You gather for the morning crew briefing, but as you look around, you notice that not everyone is there. As a group, you search the ship. As you enter the security room, the stench of burnt wires fills your nostrils, along with an aroma you can't place. Checking out the security console, you see that the console has overloaded... and a few meters away you find a body. Though it is severely burned, you eventually identify it as the senior security officer.

You check the rest of the ship and discover that one of the sleeping quarters is suspiciously locked. After several minutes of heated discussion as to how to open it, you force the door open with a crowbar secured from engineering. Immediately as the captain sets foot inside, his oxygen level alert begins beeping, and you back off until the normal level is restored. Inside, you find one of your ensigns, dead.

You look at each other. Two loyal crew down... how many of the Rebel scum are alive?

As he hits the button to expell him into the coldness of space, he utters his final words: "Long live the rebellion!"

The morning comes. The Captain conducts an inspection of living quarters, and you discover that two more of your crew are missing. You check Belisarius's quarters, and find his corpse, collapsed by the door, his room lacking the life-sustaining oxygen he needed to live. You mourn the fallen Rockman, and begin to worry about the ship's fire suppression system. The other is found in the medical bay, next to a burnt-out defibrillator and an exploded oxygen canister. Seven remain.

The Crystal crewman did not take the results of the vote well. He protested his innocence all the way to the airlock. When you finally wrestled him in and locked the door, he kept banging on it, screaming that you've got the wrong man. As you hit the button to eject him he made one final, desperate play, locking down the room to buy himself more time to plea for mercy. His pleas went unanswered, the crystal shards that sealed the room fell away, and his body was sucked lifelessly into space. You checked out his quarters, hoping to find proof of his guilt. But none was to be found, and you eventually realize you killed an innocent man

The morning comes, and the crew assembles for orders. There's only one problem: where's your captain? After waiting a while, you decide to check on him. You stand outside his locked door, and bicker for a while about who gets to knock on it because you all sure as hell don't wanna be stuck on latrine duty. I mean, it is taco night. The argument is settled when someone points out the flashing oxygen warning night. Resigned to what you'll find, you repressurize and open the door. Inside, you find the half-charred corpse of your captain. A medical examination reveals that he died of asphyxiation while in the process of burning to death.

The idea for the two semi-bulletproof townies was that they'd be immune to a single method of Mafia kill - Espressojet to the Mantis attack and Belisarius to fire based killing. In Espressojet's case, in retrospect I wasn't quite clear enough with my language and I'm sorry about that.
