A forum implementation of the card game by Ted Alspach
For more information on One Night Ultimate Werewolf, please check out Bezier Games' page or Boardgamegeek's page.
Please note that this game operates a little differently from a typical Mafia game.
There will be no nightkill, and no traditional voting. Instead, there are 10 "cards" (roles) that will be in the game. Every player will get one, and three will be left in the "center of the table", out of the game.
At the start of the game, I will send out role PMs. Some of these roles require choices from the players before the game begins. I will get everyone's choice at the start of the game, then after receiving all choices I will resolve them in this order:
After resolving those choices (and notifying players that learn new information, the Seer, Robber, and the Troublemaker), Day will begin. It will have a set deadline of 7 real-life days. After the deadline hits, I will lock the thread, and every player will send me a PM voting for another player. The player with the most votes (and more than one vote) dies. If multiple players tie for the most votes, all tied players die. If no one receives more than one vote, no one dies. (There are some situations and win conditions that may call for this.)
At any time, a player may VOTE: Nightfall. If all players have done so, the day will end early and we will move to the voting stage.
The
Werewolf
team wins if and only if no Werewolves are killed. (Alternatively, if there are no Werewolves, but there is a Minion, the Minion wins if
any other player dies
.)
The
Villager
team wins depending on the situation:
1. If there is at least one Werewolf, the Villager team wins if and only if at least one Werewolf dies.
2. If no one is a Werewolf (because both Werewolf cards are in the center), the Villager team wins if and only if
no one
dies.
Special Note:
The Robber and Troublemaker cards have the power to change your role and alignment without you knowing it! It is
very
important for you to figure out who has these roles (if anyone even does!) if they have affected you. You may start with a Werewolf card, but if the Robber takes your card,
you
are now a Robber and win with the Villagers!
Role PMs
There are 10 cards (roles) in this game. All 7 players will receive one, and 3 cards will be in the "center of the table", not assigned to any player.

1 Minion
1 Seer
1 Robber
1 Troublemaker
1 Hunter
3 Villagers
2 Werewolves
1 Minion
1 Seer
1 Robber
1 Troublemaker
1 Hunter
3 Villagers

Discussions can get heated and sometimes people swear, and that's okay. That happens! But don't be a jerk. If you want to play a game and be a jerk, there are plenty of others on this site you can join.
I expect to enforce this rule if needed, and I expect I won't need to.
I reserve the ability to use any manner of tools to enforce this, including but not limited to warnings or forced replacements. I don't expect to involuntarily replace you unless you've been clearly warned, or the violation is particularly egregious.
Playing to win does not preclude being considerate to others.
This game will begin in Night, as discussed earlier. The one Day this game has will last 14 real-time days. This Deadline will not be extended except in extraordinary circumstances.
Players will not vote during the day. At any time, players may VOTE: Nightfall to bring about the end of the Day early. Only if this vote is unanimous will it pass.
At the end of the Day, I will lock the thread. All players will PM me the name of another player to vote. After I have received all votes, the player(s) with the most votes (and more than 1 vote) will be killed, and the game will be over. If no player receives more than 1 vote, no one is killed.
Please do not use or mimic the [ ooc ] tag. If I need to make edits in players' posts, I will use this tag.
Generic rules:
Unless stated otherwise by the moderator or in these rules, the following are controlling:
First, an apology to PaulMag. He asked me a clarification about the Minion role, and my brain somehow got things mixed up into thinking
he
was the minion, so in my answer to him I referred to a fact that the Minion would know (that there was indeed a werewolf in the game). I am very, very fortunate that PaulMag recognized my error and pointed it out, and was very gracious when I had to replace him due to my error.
Second, thanks to Titus for replacing into a night impossible spot. People picked up on things remarkably fast this game, and I don't know that there's anything she could have done to save the spot from where it was, but she tried anyway. Thanks!
Third, very impressive job, town, in finding the only werewolf!
Last, I'm curious what your thoughts on the game are. I'm tempted to run this game perpetually, and enter micro signups with it every time it ends. Would you be interested in playing it again? Do you like the setup? Was two weeks too long? (I worried about scum being able to out-lurk claims if it was only a week long, but I'm not sure.)

Agreed. I knew I had lost when I asked mod to impose deadline. I could have kept the game going forever but thatwould have been wrong.
For what it's worth - there was already a deadline in place. I'm likely going to make the next one 10 days rather than 14.
Also, for the next one, should I keep the same size, different size, thoughts? I kind of liked 7 players, but if there's interest in more, I'm open to it.

In post 330, PaulMag wrote:I suggest:
Add 1 more special role.
Add 1 more player.
(For each extra player there
must
be at least one more special role, since it's only supposed to be max 3 vanilla villagers.)
I suggest one of these roles:
* Insomniac: Gets to peek at her own card just before waking up. Is the only one that knows for certain what she is after the night.
* Bodyguard: Doesn't vote to kill. His target is protected and cannot die. So if you think you have become the Bodyguard,
don't
vote for a werewolf!
* Drunk: Switches his card with one of the middle ones during the night without looking at it, so he doesn't know what role he is. He can only try to deduce.
* Tanner: He wins if he dies himself. He is his own team. (Nobody can vote for themselves.)
I know this game quite well, though. If most people think it was complicated enough as it was we could keep it the same for one more round.
I'm open to one more player, but I
hate
the very concept of the Drunk role, and I'm not super keen on the Tanner. I may keep it at 7, but swap out a role or two. I'll ponder.
