think we should set up a panel of, say, nine experienced MS members to assess titles. Three ladies, six men comes to mind. Oh and four of them would always oppose the other four on the more controversial titles, with one swing voter. And they would have to hand down lengthy judgements with each decision

I like this. There's far too much bitching about titling to rely on a monarchical system.
Lord of Lynch protect us. For the Night is dark and full of scum.
Noir Mafia, a 13p bastard Mini Theme delayed until further notice.
Think of the title as a job title: everyone's got one. All the regular employees are Mafia Scum, the trainies are goons and townspersons etc. If you want a promotion (a unique title) you must apply for the position, submit a C.V. (résumé?) And wear a suit to your title interview. Over complicating the process like this should streamline it's effectiveness, it's perfect!
Of course it wouldn't reduce the net bitching. That's not why I think the process could use an upgrade over the "5 members + fairy" standard.
Take the scummies committee. It's actually less work to get a nomination through, but the analysis for who gets one at the end of the process goes deeper because it's a discussion between multiple perspectives. Like it's obviously not that important to the quality of the site do if you're going to do it then do it right?

Some things benefit from the addition of process. Other things are harmed by it. In this case, title discussion already verges on too-serious rather than fairly lighthearted fun to build community.
In any event, I'm getting tired of seeing policy discussion in this thread rather than title suggestions and discussion about those titles. If you want to make a thread discussing how the Title Fairy should operate, please start a new thread about it.

You're right. We need to go full on direct democracy with this.
SleepyKrew is so lax compared to the start of my reign, he lets the masses complain and attempts to placate them.
I just made the rivers run red with blood.
Routine day with a dirt cheap brush
Then a week goes by and it goes untouched
Then two, then three, then a month
Then the rest of your life, you beat yourself up
if we execute skrew that'll show them we mean business
