Magua was ecstatic. His setup

. It was perfect. Angels sang the heavenly song of the spheres when he looked at it.

"Oh man," he said to himself, "I can't wait to run this game."

Role PMs were sent out. Despite his dread, he didn't even screw up access to the Mafia Private Topic! Everything was coming up

But then things took a dark turn. As Magua was coming back from lunch, zoraster pulled Magua into his office. "Look, about your setup," zoraster began.

"What?" Magua stammered. "What about my setup?"

zoraster continued: "I'm afraid there's been a mod error."

I. Rules

- The Golden Rules
1. The site-wide rules apply. Read them, know them, love them, but do not break them.
2. Play to win.
3. I reserve the right to change the rules at any time for any reason. If I do this, the rule changes will be posted in thread.

- The Inviolable Rules
4. If you’re unsure if what you’re going to do will break a rule, ASK.
5. We're all here to have fun. Tempers may flare, but avoid personal attacks and keep it civil.
6. Do not edit or delete your posts in this thread.
7. Do not quote or link private communications, including Role PMs, Private Topics, etc. (Quoting is allowed wherever alignment is confirmed, such as scum or mason PTs.)
8. Do not use cryptography, invisible text, tiny text, or the like.
9. Do not use any form of provable randomness. Claiming you rolled dice and acting on that is fine. Using dice tags is not.
10. Do not impersonate or pretend to be the moderator.

If I edit a post, my words will be in purple. Do not use this color.

11. Do not talk about this game outside of this game thread until it is completed, unless I have specifically told you it is allowed.
12. Do not bring outside factors into this game. This includes making bets, promises of real life rewards, etc.
13. Do not pretend to break one of these rules. Pretending to break a rule will be treated the same as breaking the rule.
14. Breaking one of these rules may result in a modkill. If you are modkilled, you may become a Neutral Survivor, and thus automatically lose. Modkilling may or may not end the Day.

- The Activity Rules
15. Each player is expected to post at least once every 48 real life hours. If a player goes 48 real life hours without posting, they may be prodded. Prods will be publicly announced.
16. If a player does not respond to their prod within 24 real life hours, is prodded twice in the same Day, or three times in total within the game, they may be force-replaced.
17. If you will be V/LA, please alert me in the thread or via PM. I do not read the V/LA thread.
18. Each Day will have a deadline of fourteen real life days.

In the event deadline is reached before a lynch has occurred, no lynch will occur.

19. Each Night will have a deadline of two real life days. If you have an action available during the Night, but do not submit an action, you will perform no action.
20. I may extend deadlines in the event replacements must be found. This will be publicly announced.

- The Voting Rules
21. Votes must be bolded to count, and in the format of VOTE: Magua. Abbreviations, missing punctuation, and misspellings will be accepted as long as the vote is bolded and it is obvious to me who is being voted for.
22. Unvoting is nice, but is not necessary.
23. Once a majority of votes is reached (# of players / 2 + 1, rounded down), that player will be lynched and dead. No further votes or unvotes will be counted.
24.

If you are dead, that is it. Do not post. Not even a "Bah" post.

25. You may VOTE: No Lynch. It still requires a majority to end the Day before deadline.

II. Setup Rules and Information

1. Flavor is purely for my enjoyment, and is not indicative of the game in any way.
2. Despite any flavor to the contrary, this is not a bastard game. It does not contain alignment changing mechanics, the mod is not a player, etc.
3. This setup contains 10

Town

players and 3

Mafia

players. There are no third parties.
4. The Mafia have daytalk with each other. In addition, the scums' teammates will have read-only access to the Mafia PT.
5. Each player may take a maximum of one (A) or (FA) action each Night.
6. Endgame: In the event that a Day starts with 1 Town player and 1 Mafia player, the Mafia will immediately win.

III. Team Mafia Rules

1. The Main Thread has specific Team Mafia rules.
2. Replacements are the responsibility of each team. If a player has to be replaced by a game mod (generally 7 days of active game), half a game penalty will be assessed. Teams may find their replacement anywhere, but the Sign Up Thread has a number of people who have volunteered to replace in.
3. Game deadlines, particularly Night deadlines, will be adjusted according to the speed of the other games. Twin trap in particular may have significant nights. Nightless will generally has shorter Day deadlines (and will use plurality lynch).
4. All mafia teams have Day Talk
5. All games have only two parties: a Mafia team and a Town team (or functionally similar teams in the case of theme games). There are no second Mafia teams, there are no third parties.
6.

Discussing Other Games Is Prohibited

except in certain circumstances (please see the full Team Mafia Rules for more). Teams that violate this will be warned once, then penalties will be assessed against their team.
7. Teams will have access to all game PTs, but teammates should only post in those threads if they are the player actually in the game. Egoposts are not allowed.
8. Hydras, alt accounts, etc. will not be allowed in PTs.
9.Discussing Token allocation is allowed, but remember not to discuss things going on in other games (including any contradiction).
10. Because of the nature of this game, extended VLA should be avoided. If you have to be gone for longer than 7 days, your team should find a replacement -- either temporarily (you may replace back into the same slot -- or permanently.

Information was posted in the main Team Mafia thread that confirmed one or more of the scumteam of Mafiascum Meta Mafia[scum].

As a result, that setup has been replaced with an entirely new setup, Mod Error Mafia.

- The alignment distribution for the previous game was that town was (Cabd, Cephrir, copper223, Iecerint, notscience, Rhinox, shos, T-Bone, TierShift, xRECKONERx) and the mafia was (Katsuki, Lady Lambdadelta, Who).

- Alignment for the new setup was distributed entirely randomly, without being weighted by tokens.

- You may discuss your previous role if you wish, but treat it as any other mod communication -- paraphrase, but do not quote.

New role PMs are out. Please confirm via reply PM.

You may quote your role PM in your team's Private Topic if you wish.

Magua blinked.

zoraster leaned back in his chair, propping his feet up on his desk. "So you need to make a new setup."

Magua blinked again.

zoraster pressed on. "Can you have it by tomorrow?"

"Wait," Magua finally said, "But the private topics are purple! How could..."

zoraster narrowed his eyes.

Magua was ecstatic about his game.

Magua was excited about the player list for his game. Old friends he recognized! New friends he had yet to meet!

Such joy!

It was with exhilaration that Magua sent out the role PMs, not making a single mistake, and set up the Mafia PT, not making a single mistake, and posted the vote counts, making only a single mistake. Things were going so swimmingly!

As time passed, Magua realized that his camping trip was coming up. Uh oh, it was going to start right before the deadline hit! What to do? What to do?

Well, there was only one option. Delay the camping trip, handle the game, make sure that zoraster saw how much time and energy he was putting into things. Yes! Maybe zoraster would even be impressed enough to give him that raise he'd been wanting!

So it was that deadline approached. Magua was a nervous wreck. So many things that could go wrong! So many possibilities to make him look like a fool! He obsessively F5-ed the page, he double-tripled checked the hammer vote, he recounted all the votes - twice! - and saw that everything was as it should be.

With a sigh of relief, he posted the flip and set a deadline for Night and then went camping.

When he returned after the weekend, refreshed and ready to resume work, Magua was a bit unnerved to find zoraster tapping his foot meaningfully with that stern-otter expression of his.

"Um," Magua began, "Is everything all right?"

"No," zoraster replied.

"Um," Magua tried again after a few seconds, "What's wrong?"

"You didn't lock the thread for Night. They've been all sorts of chatty Cathy's in there. Couple of thousand posts. I thought you were better than this." And with that, zoraster turned and stalked back to his office, leaving Magua's happy spirits evaporating into nothingness.

Magua dragged himself into the office.

It hadn't been a good night, and for that matter, it hadn't been a good Night. Bleary-eyed, he reviewed the night actions submitted for his game and pondered.

Rhinox was going to die.

But Rhinox was his friend. On the rare occasions when zoraster let them off work before eight, they'd often go and play air hockey together.

He didn't want Rhinox to die.

A hastily posted "There's a delay" message in the game had given him the night to think, but it hadn't helped. He had tossed and turned all night, hardly sleeping, feeling just as miserable this morning as he had last night.

But right there, sitting right at the computer, he had had an idea. Simple in its brilliance. What if...what if Rhinox simply didn't die? Ha. Ha ha. Yes! That was it! That was the solution...just ignore it!

Giggling quietly to himself, Magua wrote up the opening Day flavor, neglecting to mention a battered and bloody Rhinox corpse at all.

Hours later...

"Magua," zoraster glowered, "What the hell do you think you're doing?"

"Well," Magua replied, "Right now I'm talking to you because you cal..."

"Don't be a wiseass, dumbass," zoraster said. He pointed one gold-ringed finger at his monitor. "I've got complaints from your game about people not dying when they should."

"Er," Magua said, thinking fast. "I'm sure there's a perfectly logic..."

"Stuff it," zoraster thundered. "I've been watching you. I know this wasn't a mistake." Magua watched in terror as he saw zoraster open up the super secret listmod console, and enter in a single command:

Magua was beginning to crumble under the strain, and that was even before he had seen that zoraster had installed a camera in Magua's cube to watch over him.

"Is that, you know, really necessary?" Magua had asked zoraster.

zoraster had just smiled an evil otter smile.

Time passed.

Magua ran his Large Theme (which, it should be noted to the dear reader, is entirely fictional and made-up only for this flavor).

It came time for another camping trip, at which point Magua handed over Night action resolution to zoraster.

Time passed.

Magua was concerned. Why was TierShift claiming a cop guilty on Faraday?

Faraday was town.

But, Magua, reasoned, who knew? Gambiters going to gambit.

Time passed.

Magua was more concerned. TierShift had ridden that guilty on Faraday all day, and had finally secured a lynch.

Sighing, Magua wrote out the flavor and posted the flip: Faraday, Vanilla Townie, etc etc. He set a deadline and left to get a cup of cocoa.

When he came back, zoraster was waiting in his cube, stroking his silky smooth otter paws in anticipation.

"Pack your things," he said when he noticed Magua. "You messed up for the last time." zoraster motioned towards a convenient nearby cardboard box.

"What?" Magua said, blinking in surprise. "Huh?" he added, eloquently.

"Your large theme," zoraster said, cheerfully. "I got a complaint from TierShift that you gave him the wrong results. Said that Faraday was guilty."

Magua could swear that zoraster licked his lips.

"Wrong result...?" Magua said. Then it clicked. "But I didn't handle the results! I was camping!"

Realization dawned.

"*You* gave him the wrong results!" Magua crowed triumphantly.

"What? No!" zoraster replied. "No, I didn't!" The otter smile was gone. "I'll...I mean...um...this requires more research."

He slid out of Magua's cube before anything else could be said, but it was enough. Magua slept well that night.

Magua strolled back into the office after an extended lunch at the local Olive Garden, where he had spent the past hour and a half devouring the unlimited breadsticks.

He was now pleasantly stuffed.

He was less pleasantly surprised to find zoraster in his cube, pecking away at the keyboard of his computer.

"Um," Magua began, "What're you doing?"

zoraster didn't look up. "There was a quicklynch. You weren't here, so I'm doing it." zoraster continued to type.

"Oh," Magua said, and then after a pause where he rejected asking why zoraster was doing this from his cube, "Who was lynched?"

zoraster looked up in surprise.

zoraster narrowed his eyes.
