Like he said, it doesn't have to be funny or anything but it accomplishes what simply using "Shea" intends to accomplish and there's no reason someone who has been around so long should have to make a brand new account just to be formally known by the name we all use for him anyway. It's simple. It's direct. And it's not just his name.
Also, I didn't know all those other people's names that were brought up (Kittymo and whoever else). If someone were to bring up Shea's name in a thread he's not even in, I'd know who they mean without having to connect any dots in my head or anything. I don't think I can say that about anyone else here. That includes MattP, maybe because the name "Matt" is so common.

its mentioning his obsession for being called with his real name , and its pointing to a something he is sensitive about and say a lot. so thats a very good topic I guess.
Do you think it could be construed as a joke, though? A lot of the titles are jokes, so people out of the loop may not realize that he seriously wants to be called Shea.
