BattleCON G7 - KingdomAces (Lixis) vs. Zorblag (Ottavia)

Post Post #0 (isolation #0) » Mon Jul 04, 2016 6:59 pm

Post by Zorblag »

It's another game of BattleCON! After some time off we have KingdomAces playing the Biomancer Lixis vs. the Cybernetic Sniper Ottavia Six! Nature vs. Technology! Science vs. Guns! The ability to remove opponent options vs. the ability to make the opponent slow if you can guess what they're up to! Who will win?
Lixis, duh!

If you're interested in learning about or playing a game yourself at some point I'll point you to the BattleCON discussion thread in the Arcade. For now, thanks to KingdomAces for stepping up to be the next scummer to whale on a Troll in the pbf fighting series!

@KingdomAces, go ahead and submit your discard 1, discard 2 and finisher. Remember that Discard 2 is the one you'll get back first.

Shall we play with Dash and the Force Gauge? I guess I think that's what you were doing with GreyICE last time through.

Hmm, are you intentionally holding onto your force special action? I'm fine if you want to make that one of your discards. Either one really.

I don't know that it was too obvious. I just have to cover target locks with the priorities that are higher than my actions most of the time (or equal to if i don't like the clash option.) Other than dash that was the only move that this particular attack pair worried about. Most of my attacks will be slower so I won't have as easy a time at it.

Looks like I win priority after Target Lock so I'll hit you for 2, move you back one and then move back 2 myself.

oLooooO

Sound right?

Hi there Cybele! Good to see you again. Let us know if you want in on a game!

I agree that the rooted should give you the chance to choose which movement effects to ignore one at a time rather than to ignore them all or let them all through. I think your plan was going to be fine.

After I miss I'll move directly to the far side of the arena.

OoooLoo.

I'll get that typed up and then get my next move in. You'll have ante this time so I'll wait to see if you ante before submitting mine (as it can make a difference.)

Wow, I actually guessed that right. I didn't expect that at all as most of your good attacks were, as you say, priority 2.

Looks like the Target Lock hits so I go first. I'll do 4 damage which stuns you and then that's about it. Look right?

I actually did that as much to stop you getting adjacent to me as anything else (though Vine was a problem there as well, but I couldn't stop everything) I could soak/stun guard most of the other attacks and still hit back for probably more damage. I don't know that it was a particularly sub-optimal move on your part, thought the priority 2 ones were often just as damaging.

Have a great night and we'll continue tomorrow!

I'll pass as well. Vine shot's a good move there. I couldn't find a way for it to not hit me. Looks like I do 4 damage, you do 3, I discard a base and you pull me up to two spaces. I'll figure out that base as soon as I can.

I hadn't realized either that or that this is probably a particularly bad matchup for Lixis when I chose her. The lack of Lixis mobility really plays into Ottavia's play-style.

I'll switch to someone else after this game I'm thinking. Unless I lose, then I want best 2 of 3.

@Cybele, hmm, at a glance that looks a lot weaker. Especially how it combines with some of her cards and her general speed. Might be interesting to try.

Just let us know when you've got time! Kajia would be fun to play against (she the corrupted dryad, right?)

And naturalizing. So that was a wasted ante. At least I have enough stun guard. You hit me for 2. I'll discard drive. I hit for 3 and then I'll advance 0 to stay in the corner.

Sound good?

OK, I'm watching a baby now and can't type the next beat up right now, but I can probably choose my next attack pair. You're at 7 health 7 force, I'm at 15 health and 6 force I think?

Apparently we both hate it when you move.

I'm off to cook some dinner for kids, but I'll be back this evening. Looks like I do one damage to you that beat? I assume you don't move.

*shrugs* It cost me 2 force to do the only damage in the turn. You still couldn't have moved due to snapback so you didn't lose much by not anteing. I think you get 2 force per recycle phase now. It wasn't one of the moves that I was specifically worried about for this beat.

It's our first game in a month and your first time seeing this character (and my first time seeing yours,) so we get some leeway for this. At least you haven't made a silly mistake that cost you 6 damage like I did! I would push you, yes.

For the pruning grasp thing I just couldn't afford a clash there so I went the stupid silly route just like with the rest of the move. What I'm trying to figure out now is whether you have shot available or if it's in your discard 1. I think it just has to be your finisher there so you've got more options.

@Cybele with Ante finishers the anted finisher ends the ante round, yeah. If Ottavia hadn't anted target lock already it would have been lost (and she couldn't change it if she hadn't anted it.)

Let me take a look at what we're working with now and see how I want to try to avoid getting crushed at melee range which I chose to be in.

Your Finisher cost 6 force when you used it as that was your life total at the time. I think you're back up to 7 after this round which means you could pulse. I choose not to as I have to decide first.

Actually, I think you have access to shot. Your Finisher is in your discard 2 right now, but shot should be in your hand.

If that's not the force then it's close enough. Life looks like what I expect.

And yeah, I guess the discard 2 slot is just empty. Maybe the base goes there? I agree it shouldn't matter this time, but we should see if we can figure that out for sure.

Hmm, looks like I'm faster so you won't be able to move with your burst. I will push you one on hit. You do have enough stun guard to not get stunned by my 2 damage. I'll have to discard a card (let's go with shooter.) You can then pull me up to 2.

That all look right?

p-edit It does activate as it's a passive (it doesn't have a particular phase it activates, so it's up all phase long after the reveal.)

Like I said earlier, I think this was a bad matchup in retrospect. I want to keep you at range and have movement cards that let me get to range fairly easily. You want to close the gap, but have more limited options of which I have some counters (snapback stopping you from moving for example.) When I've got you at 4 or more range in particular, if you want to land an attack it's a very limited set of options you have. That means that I can more easily work around them (especially with target lock.)

I think that Cybele is still on the busy side, but if you're up for another game I'll suggest we go with a different matchup. I'll certainly change, you can either stick with Lixis or swap up yourself.

We can also certainly give it a day or two if you want a break.

So I've got ooOoLoo for position.

Lixis 1 life, 9 force.
Discard 1 Vine Burst.
Discard 2 Naturalizing Strike.

Ottavia 12 live, 8 force.
Discard 1 Snapback Grasp, Shooter.
Discard 2 Demolition Drive.

Sound right?

I think you anted power first, so it's your ante again. I saw it before you spoilered. In theory it made a difference, but I'd already picked the attack pair so it doesn't really. Besides, you might as well ante that every beat at this point.

For saying you didn't play well at the end, you certainly dragged that out.

And again, I wasn't really expecting the pruning grasp there, just covering the one weakness I had in terms of priority. Ottavia's UA is really powerful for that.

Good game! Let me know what you want to do from here.

Yeah, Ottavia isn't tournament legal (which I didn't know until Cybele pointed it out,) and that's probably why. It's a really strong UA and she does decent damage.

Seth, who I'll probably play next does something similar (+2 power and priority if he can guess your base,) but his styles aren't as brutal on their own. Or, if you prefer I can try someone else. Rexan, Runika, and Demitras are all appealing.

Take your time and let me know what you want to do either in here or via PM.

I think I'd be up to playing two games simultaneously as long as one were fairly slow.

Who do you want to play Cybele? I think I'd like to give Rexan a go against you.

Sounds good. I'll get that set up sometime later today.

It's probably a fairly busy weekend so expect me not to be super quick with responses (which sounds like it should be fine from your end.)
