there are so many conventional shooters out there that i'm honestly kind of perplexed as to why you think this game should become more like them. likewise for individualist games whereas this is team based (promotes playing w/ friends).
i think the calling card of this game is not only that each character brings such a different control style and playstyle that mixes the content up a lot, but that for players like me and other gamers who otherwise aren't really into the fps/arena-ish types of games it feels like less of a nichey or hardcorey battle game. really bad wording there but it's like. lighter brighter subject matter with more welcoming vibes and whatever and i know for me and a bunch of my uni friends who've been turned off from LoL and DOTA stuff, this is a pretty great entry level game.
of course it'll get more complex later on but for now blizzard's done really well at creating an environment where the main gameplay doesn't just look like "guy with bullet gun kills enemies, war war war" and i think there's a really nice kind of success in that
I don't think so. I am not saying overwatch should be like other shooters. If anything I am saying each shooter should be themself (COD be COD, Halo be Halo, don't cross the streams) 76 shouldn't have been the cheap cod/halo substitute with good mid range. He should have been cod guy or halo guy only. Or he should not be in the game at all and I should have another better mid range character

Who is? All the rest seem to have incredible flaws.
Mcree can't kill anyone unless he is on top of them and his gun has 6 bullets and is semi-auto. His ult doesn't actually kill anyone. and he can't use his mobility move until after he has used all his bullets because he can't kill most people with only 6 bullets.
Genju is increcibly squishy, his weapon is crazy hard to hit anything with and can't really take down the tanks. and his dash move and ult put him in harms way and he's too squshy to handle that. even with the reflect.
Reaper is decent
Tracer has a bad ult, and her mobility doesn't really help her get kills because her weapon is kinda shitty.

Pharoah is p good but not as good as 76.

Soldier 76 is mid tier. Pharah is more useful than him in most situations due to her mobility. Tracer is incredible as a flanker, and a good tracer can easily 1v5 the enemy team.
Genji's deflection is the best weapon against stationary turrets like Torb or Bastion, and his double jump makes him very slippery and hard to hit.
McCree's ult kills people with a good enough setup but his bullet damage nerf recently does put him at the low end of the totem pole.
76 is the easiest to play but that doesn't mean he's the best character. Assuming low skill, sure.

Got second legendary, need to learn how to play tracer well as I got her ultra violet skin. Had some fun with her last night so she appears easier to learn than I thought

New character announced it is the support sniper that is Pharah's mom but her and sombra are not the same person like a lot of people thought. Sombra will be somone else at another time. Ana is the new character with the crusaders crossbow like sniper rifle. She shoots and heals allies. Her shots deal damage over time and can't head shot which is weird. They basically combined Sidney Sleeper sniper with crusader crossbow medic. I kinda like it. Since she is built for body shots I think she will be a lot of people's go to sniper. I much perfer a sniper that can heal me over one that can't
