Just wondering, would you restrict what the scum can and can't delete? Like if someone wanted you to delete/edit a post that said "xx is easily manipulated, we should keep him alive until lylo" would you allow it?

Imo that's not the moderator interfering, that's just scum wanting to be nice but also wanting to communicate freely during the game.

Imo scum should be able to choose if one of their insults is made public. The potential harm done by something like that is much higher than the potential information gain. Sure, some people would want to know if people thought they were easily manipulated, but most wouldn't, and I think scum should have that choice. I suppose it's not the worst thing in the world to force scum to word their posts like they would if they were in public, but the benefit of being able to save usually a handful of posts doesn't seem worth it to me.

Imo the scum pt is part of the experience of the game

And I'm not saying scum pt should be allowed to be completely private. Just messages should be allowed to be deleted. Again, the conflict that could be caused by a negative message is a lot worse than the downside of 1 deleted post.

To me it's not an issue of general beliefs or anything, it's an issue of which things are more important. Like, whether the scum chat is considered private or not depends on how the scum feel when they type in it and depends on each scum team. Some people think the scum chat is a critical part of the game, some would never bother to read them. But ultimately it's a very different question whether to withhold the whole thread or just a few posts. Again, even if I highly valued the information in the scum thread, the value of a few posts is questionable and allowing people to delete some posts if they said some potentially offensive things make sense to me. It's an advantage when working with private threads. But withholding the whole scum PT isn't something that should be taken lightly.

But there is a sort of godfather effect with PTs. If they're usually release people can expect them to be release and get disappointed when they aren't.

I still don't think that justifies refusing to delete any posts from the pt though

@FA: Say the scum communicated in the main game thread but their posts were hidden except for themselves. Would it make sense to always release all the hidden posts that weren't specifically requested to be deleted?

The fact that it's a separate thread is irrelevant to the conversation imo. It's a matter of how much information would you trade for how much privacy

But the reason it's private is for the purposes of the game, not any other reason. If scum are expecting that the PTs be released, which they should be, I don't see a reason to delete any requested posts and release the PT.

I think it's reasonable to make mods says they will release the scum PTs post game if they will.

I don't see a specific issue with refusing to withhold the entire PT if the players know it's coming.

It simply doesn't matter.

Its a private thing - either announce your going to betray the term privacy or keep it private if the involved players ask you to. I beleive the second is better, more legit and understandable and more fair.
You didn't say you had an issue with that, you said you preferred doing things differently.

I suppose it's a personal sentiment I don't really understand.

But I don't understand a specific reason why you'd want the PT to not be released at all in some cases instead of saying the PT will be released, deleting specific posts, then releasing it.

I understand that we have different concepts of privacy and that we will probably never agree.

I don't think you've explained your side as well as I would like you to. Explain that last sentence in the above post again. That's what I wanted to hear your side on.

Dreal, it's true you have to draw the line somewhere but I don't think it makes much sense to draw the line where insulting someone related to a game over Skype is not allowed
