Random voting (RVS) is generally how we start out games here on MafiaScum! It's actually a very useful tool for finding mafia (and town), for a few reasons. In a nutshell though, it's an icebreaker that lets you understand each player's general disposition towards the game so that you can read them better. I'm sure Zito will go more in-depth into it once he posts.

Just from placing seemingly-random votes, I already have an idea of people I want to question in order to start looking for scum, gut suspicions, and a townread.

So, FC, what do you think of Selynee? Do you think she's more likely to be town or scum? Don't worry about being wrong, following gut feelings and sorting out their validity is what D1 is all about. Also, just out of curiosity, what do you propose to do as an alternative to random voting to start off a game?

Well, she can be town or scum. Hard to tell this early. Random Voting is just fine in larger games. But in this game, if someone RTs a townie, all it takes is the mafia plus just one more townie to lynch them. So it's a bit dangerous. I am unfamiliar with Matrix6, however, so yeah.
