Heyo, I am playing magic casually and really enjoy commander right now.

Any suggestions for some good cheap Angel cards/ Equipment? Equipment because I want to make a fun tiny leaders deck with them plus they would fit into the white deck I bought and Angels because I enjoy the theme and want to make a standard with it.

Thanks!

I gave up on tiny leaders, it is too vicious a format.

I was playing based off the white commander deck that you buy but then changed my leader to Avacyn and tried getting it more angel focused.

I am terrible at Magic other then Limited events in which case I can usually finish 2-1 or 3-1, don't win them too often but I get lucky sometimes. I pulled an Ugin and Deathmist Raptor yesterday but honestly... I think I should just trade them.

I am terrible at trades though and don't know how to go about doing things with it. Mostly I am just lazy and don't care about my cards so they are all stored in box containers. Whats the best way to get value out of value pulls? Should I just trade them away while Standard makes them worth something and try to snag up as many lands as I can? Fetches don't go down in value right?

I made a cheap standard deck that revolves around Nettle Drone / Molten Nursery. Its an eldrazi burn deck of sorts.

Consists of:
Forerunner of Slaughter
Dust Stalker
Nettle Drone
Herald of Kozilek
Ruination Guides
Hangarback Walker
Fathom Feeder
Brutal Expulsion
Touch of the Void
Molten Nursery
ghostfire blade

Can't quite figure out what else needs to be in there.

I mostly just brew but I get caught up in a theme I like and try to force it.

Having some success with a colorless/blue artifacts. It hits hard and fast but still doesn't really compete to Atarka Red/Abzan

Oh I figured since all the aggro decks were kinda faster then me, that I must not be aggro but I can change that.

I just only have a few blue spells. Whats confusing about that? Should I be playing more blue for what I am running?

This deck is hilarious to play and I am doing decent with it but no idea how to make it actually competitive for me. I get crushed by Atarka red every time and usually draw the other games.

My current attempt at a standard deck. I tried hard to come up with something new and wanted to play something fun. It really can ramp up hangarbacks which is cool but not really meant to be the win con. Tokens spam with emeria and landfall is what does it with maybe the help of the dragons.

After playing a couple games with the deck, it obviously suffers from not having any removal so that should be in the sideboard or even mainboard and take out counters to put in side board. I did manage to play a dragonlord D and have a blue left over to counter any removal they would put out on their turn. It worked out pretty well.

Hangarback was wonderful as per normal forcing my opponent to side in lots of enchantment removal to deal with him the other games. I have to keep that in mind when placing counters from kazandu that they are better off on herald or tokens because the hangarback could be exiled at any moment.

I think I will only run three of for the heralds and put in a Q-field to help remove anything that is hard to deal with such as planeswalkers and enchantments. The dragons are definitely amazing and having denials with them is great. Board wipes are also something I should consider but I don't know which to run. Maybe outburst for the awaken as I will be land heavy?

The goal though is to win with felidor sovereign at some point :P

I did my midnight prerelease last night and had a pretty good time! Lots of people but only 3 rounds cause late.

I pulled a mirrorpool which I am in love with. I really wanted one so glad it was my release card. I made a WB stall deck that did pretty well. The pilgrim is pretty sweet for a 2 mana 2/3 deathtouch and the life gain is super legit with stuff like Ramparts and other big but walls.

The MVP was probably Endbringer though as he won me the most games. I screwed up really bad with him one game and pinged instead of just attacking. I was terrified that the dude might have had a removal if I swung so I figured I'll just ping him as he was low anyways. It was a pretty big error on my part and mostly just because I wasn't too familiar with what the new set had.

Prioritize the following:
1.) Bombs
2.) Removal
3.) Value

Everything else is pretty whatever. In my first pack, I often find myself taking stuff like oblivion strike first because removal is just so important but if you have something like a reality smasher in your opening pack, then take it and win.

Thoughts on this deck? I wanted to play something with the flicker and abzan blue seems to have the most value with it. I have trouble with fliers and my mana base is a little wonky at times.

4 Abzan Charm
2 Canopy Vista
3 Caves of Koilos
4 Eldrazi Displacer
1 Linvala, the Preserver
3 Forest
2 Transgress the Mind
1 Murderous Cut
2 Stubborn Denial
3 Sylvan Advocate
1 Flooded Strand
1 Crumbling Vestige
3 Llanowar Wastes
1 Plains
1 Polluted Delta
1 prairie stream
3 Reflector Mage
2 Eldrazi Skyspawner
2 Sandsteppe Citadel
1 Sunken Hollow
2 Silkwrap
3 Windswept Heath
1 Swamp
1 Island
2 Shambling Vent
4 Siege Rhino
1 Utter End
3 Thought-Knot Seer
2 Wingmate Roc

sideboard
1 Dragonlord Silumgar
2 Infinite Obliteration
3 Surge of Righteousness
2 Duress
2 Hallowed Moonlight
3 Arashin Cleric
2 Flaying Tendrils

I was testing it with oath of nissa for a while at 25 lands but I wanted a little more tech so I dropped the nissa for an extra lands and found a way to put in the counters. Not hard to get the stubborn online.

Advocate has been really awesome and i had recently put those in in place of visionary. I don't really ever draw my wingmates when I need them which annoys me. I either have them when I don't have the creature base to support or I never pull them when my opponent has loads of fliers out.

Thats how I feel too. The flip mechanic was usually hard enough to pull off and only certain things actually were worth trying to flip (westvale abbey). Melding just seems like something that people will try hard to do and fail miserably. I think the new angels could maybe be good enough to try it? Only because Bruna will bring Gisela back to the battlefield from the graveyard.

LOL Docent of Perfection is hilarious!

So probably because I am a newer player and didn't start until Khans, I am in love with the past couple sets. I think they are neat and while people keep trying to compare old cards to the new cards, I don't care. Yeah there is an obvious downplay on the cards power from last time but so what? They still look to be interesting in standard for me.

Shadows did the same thing but the problem was dragons. That block needs to hurry up and leave so they can get to their 2 block set that they were planning.

Did it with blue/black zombies. It's funny because I took that deck to a game day and went 0-4 just yesterday but today went 4-0. Just needed that little bit of tweaking I guess?

Ok so the triggers are based off what the spell number is right? So If I cast the reservoir as my second spell and then cast a 3rd spell that turn I will gain 3 life from reservoir.

This is the deck I want to run and by deck... I mean here are cards that relate to the deck. I think its pretty fun and maybe even a tier 2 depending on whats played.

It triggers the Reservoir too right? Says artifact or Creature so I play a bone saw and get double life gain triggers. Its a one of jank thing.

Also helps with the Crane finding artifacts for me.

This set seems pretty great.

Fatal Push is amazing and will see modern play.

There is a new "splinter twin" in standard with Saheli and this white cat thing.

Revolt mechanic has just allowed for some really good cheap cards.

Possible. Kiran will replace Copter in some decks tho and is really good with any deck that runs planeswalkers which I imagine, might be a lot.

I did 2.

First one pulled Nissa/Drake Haven with some cycling stuff so I played that game trying to ramp into things like Greater Sandwurm. Went 3-1 mostly winning because of Nissa Fireball but the 5/3 sphinx isn't bad either.

Second one was Red/White with Gideon and Glorybringer as the top end. If I drew either of those cards, I pretty much won.

I would maybe value field of ruin over scavenging grounds.

I expect that tokens deck might make a strong appearance meaning its worth considering running more board wipes in the side then just the 2. I'm not a great control player tho...

Temur Energy, B/U control, R/B aggro, Abzan Tokens are the main decks I would expect to see. Blue/White Approach could maybe slip in there?

Creatures

4 Scrapheap Scrounger
4 Night Market Lookout
3 Hazoret the Fervent
1 Yahenni, Undying Partisan
4 Glint-Sleeve Siphoner
4 Dread Wanderer
4 Bomat Courier

Spells
3 Unlicensed Disintegration
4 Lightning Strike
3 Fatal Push

Artifact

3 Aethersphere Harvester

Lands

8 Swamp
2 Mountain
4 Aether Hub
2 Canyon Slough
4 Dragonskull Summit
3 Spire of Industry

Sideboard?

2 Yahenni, Undying Partisan
2 Chandra's Defeat
4 Rampaging Ferocidon
1 Vance's Blasting Cannons
4 Duress
2 Bontu's Last Reckoning

I tweaked my black/red aggro a bit after yesterday's PPTQ. I'm not convinced the deck is great but it's what I have so I'm going to give it another shot. Surprisingly, my temur matchup is decent and I can reliably beat control although I have no real answers to scarab god. My toughest match up was against Red/Green Dinos which is why I switched into this more artifact centered deck with Unlicensed. The sideboard is all wrong right now and I need to figure out how to make it better.

Took the tweaked deck to another PPTQ yesterday and finally won!

It was my first ever PPTQ win and I'm really liking the deck now. The matchup vs Temur Energy is great and Blue/Black isn't terrible. I only struggled against a Grixis Tezeret deck because of all the easy chump blockers into Scarab God. Even then, I was a bolt away from winning game 3.

I just don't like it when there is a random card in there that is banned. Rampaging Feriocidon did not need to go. Reflector mage was also a pretty dumb ban.

It was a sideboard card? It didn't shut down things and was only really doing well because it was used against Temur Energy. It made the radanup red matchup vs Temur Energy actually a close.

The card was not good enough to be banned.

Oh ok but by that logic, they will struggle against any red deck cause Abrade is a common card to put in. Besides, RR favored lightning strike more often then Abrade.

It's... difficult for me to know exactly how to help you build this deck. I could tell you how to optimize it but if you are just looking to have fun then by all means, play what you want! I would probably just put in a little more burn, take out enchantment buffs and vanilla creatures, then find whatever spicy thing you enjoy playing with. Red/White has great potential as an equipment deck and would probably fit awesome into what you are doing. Add in Danitha plus some unique equipment like helm of the hosts or Forebears blade plus she synergies with kwende.

I guess I'll just play arena forever now. I don't even know where to go to participate in Magic events anymore which is sad. I would love to do a PPTQ type event but I don't think they exist.

I hate having to look up every store in my area just to find out that they only do pre-releases. So yeah, I've browsed through 8 different stores and no one is hosting an event outside of your normal FNM. Dallas has regionals for SCG but that's Modern and also 4 hours away.

I miss playing competitive magic all day long.

If you wen't to a competitive event, you would likely play between 20 to 40% of your games against RDW. It's the most popular deck in the format and if your deck can't reliably beat it, then you should probably retool it.

Other then that, there are lots of planeswalkers in standard (obviously) meaning control decks are a little different and more sorcery speed and planeswalker attrition. Jeskai walkers, Esper Walkers, Esper Hero, and a 4c Command the Dreadhorde deck are some of the best archetypes.

There are lots of fun subtypes but again, they aren't realistic to play if you can't deal with RDW or Planeswalkers.

Very good against all the steal decks and taking turns decks. Now I'm just having to grind through esper heros.

I'm taking a break from magic. I was out of town for about 10 days and couldn't play at all so I was eager to get back into it.

But then I remember how much I hate the RNG of it and how frustrating it can be and how toxic it makes me.

Yeah I'm just going to stop playing so I can stop beating my head into a wall (literally sometimes)

Made rank 625 in standard for Arena last month.

Played Esper Dance which arguably might be even worse now with so many people main decking veil of summer and noxious grasp. I'll probably be able switch my deck up tho before the qualifier.

For sure. I get bored and just want to do something different and then get crushed because my different deck isn't optimized. It's easier to do that type of deck building with Historic or Modern.

I used to love jank decks with strange win cons and maybe I still do enjoy them but Arena has driven me to play aggressive decks that end the game early because you have to grind soooooo much to reach Mythic. It's miserable to play an hour long game for two ticks (or none if things don't go your way). I can play all day and rank up maybe twice depending on how many control decks I go up against.

That being said, people should still play control and jank and have fun with it. It's Wizards fault for creating a stupid grind system that punishes that type of play.
