Ok real talk as someone who co modded a heavily PR game
If you make the post restrictions too difficult, people will either not follow them or stop posting and replace out.
You want them to be entertaining for everyone not just hard.Join me on my quest to play every NES game! Some of them are awful.

I fakeclaimed a "can only quote and vote" as scum once (although my version allowed editing down quotes to just a few words, so if necessary I could write long posts via quoting a large number of posts but only a few words each). It's a lot of fun, but would have been rather less fun if I were town (also rather less fun if I weren't in a Neighbourhood, and thus could persuade the other members to tell the town what I was trying to say).
Incidentally, I think you can get a lot of mileage in a bastard game out of a post restriction that's unlikely to ever be broken by accident, because it'll leave players wondering what the reason is. (Tarhalindur once heavily implied to a player that they weren't allowed to say the word "butterfly", although this was actually a lie and nothing happened when the player did. This served no real purpose other than trying to make people paranoid about what the purpose was.)scum· scam · seam · team · term · tern · torn ·town- drealmerz7

oh well for my HS we have crappy forum software that merges posts and makes them look like "edits" if you make consecutive posts within 10 minutes of each other (meaning no one else makes a post between 2 posts of yours within 10 minutes) - and if you do that, it's apenalty, because no editing, and penalities are often posting restrictionsIn post 32, Gamma Emerald wrote:Further fun stuff: how can I tie them to the game?
sooo, penalities for breaking rules

With uncouth mafia we came up with the post restrictions and the roles, then randomly mixed them with the player list
Modkills were an intended mechanic as they were in polite mafia, and had a four strikes rule.
If the moderator noticed your PR slip, OR if you were reported for four separate instances on the same day, you were mod-killed. The catch is that when someone reported you, they had to name your post restriction (which wasn't public) so before they could report you, they had to have guessed what your PR was. We had a few that weren't counted because someone got the PR wrong. A violation could only be reported by one player, so if that player didn't guess the PR correctly, no one else could report the post.

Uncouth mafia always makes me sad because it was the best flavor I ever wrote for a game and also because like four of the players have since been permbanned.Join me on my quest to play every NES game! Some of them are awful.

That's clearly exploitable; you could incorrectly report the posts from other scumteam members to prevent anyone else reporting them. (I seem to remember that Polite Mafia had a similar issue, in which players didn't keep to their post restrictions at all to prevent anyone else figuring them out and reporting them.)scum· scam · seam · team · term · tern · torn ·town- kuribo

Except DGB intended the latter to be a part of the mechanic and we literally never figured out until the last day that if we never used our PRs we couldn't be reported
With uncouth there was talk of gaming the system but the players decided it was against the spirit of the game if I recall correctlyJoin me on my quest to play every NES game! Some of them are awful.

I know there was someone who was planning to revive the Stars Aligned series; I was reviewing/codesigning it. The thread became inactive ages ago, though.
I'm not sure what the etiquette is on stealing a game series from someone else who's no longer active on the site (meaning that you can't just ask for permission), which is one of the reasons I haven't been working on it. But it should be possible to adapt the basic idea of the setup (which is very enjoyable) into something with fewer theoretical problems.scum· scam · seam · team · term · tern · torn ·town- Vi

Just do it. Percy can complain if and when he gets back in.I'm not sure what the etiquette is on stealing a game series from someone else who's no longer active on the site (meaning that you can't just ask for permission), which is one of the reasons I haven't been working on it. The issue with Stars Aligned is that it's completely open, which
a) makes it hard to balance
b) makes it really tedious to playEverything you say and do matters. People will respond in ways you may never see. May those responses be what you intend.- callforjudgement

Well, it looks like it was vonflare I was working on it with. You could ask for PT access (not from me, I can't grant it). That said, one of the changes we were considering was to make it not *quite* Open (specifically, there's a theoretical reason to hide the details of some scum-only Insanities), so just posting it publicly is probably a bad idea.scum· scam · seam · team · term · tern · torn ·town- Titus

Yeah if the game can be broken by an INVESTIGATOR'S PLAN then it needs some work.In post 40, Vi wrote:The issue with Stars Aligned is that it's completely open, which

Or a sitemeta where people willingly go murderer.
Because Murderers are Cultists' best friends in that game.
Two of the Cult's biggest problems were the Open nature (thus the PLAN) and the lack of Murderers."This is the true face of a man who plays paladin."- The MM

A PR I've had to play with before was that every post had to have at least three instances of the word "butt" or its plural.Video games can be educational. The Oregon Trail taught me that Manifest Destiny is fatal.
