not saying banshees is bad, but if you don't specifically need banshees get SV.

Also I got hard carried for the first time in a long time.
It felt great tbh.

I go 9-0-21 on Ryze for the 10% CDR. With 10% from his Q, all you'd need is a frozen heart and you're cdr capped.

You can also build him 9-21-0 or 21-9-0. That said, Ryze doesn't benefit a whole lot from the offensive tree because he scales better with mana than AP.

That makes sense, but that means I need to buy a rune page for a champ I don't play a whole lot?

That said, i can see 4-21-5 with the Frozen Heart and spirit visage to make up for my missing CDR.

I have no idea how Riot let in an AP/AD caster/assassin/fighter/support who can play anything and do it well, while out dps'ing ad carries and shredding towers.

I hate Kayle so much. More broken than anything.

I just want to play Shen top against something that isn't Yorick or Teemo so I have a chance at winning my lane. Every time in the past month I've played Shen top I've played against a Teemo or Yorick, lost lane pretty badly, and subsequently lost the game.

Fuck both of them (Teemo especially, he can go DIAF).

Shen doesn't win lane. Shen wins other people's lanes.
Actually, Shen can outtrade a lot of toplaners around lvl 8-9. It's just getting through the early levels.
If you use your Q to harass when they're cs'ing at level 1, you can gain an early lead, too. You can follow that up with maxing Q first for consistently good harass.

I like to max W when behind a lot, so I can live after grabbing some cs.

1) You don't NEED your q to cs - after you play a few games with Shen, you get the hang of cs'ing with his passive. Aside from that, it's nice to last hit with on occasion if you need the bonus health, but I prefer to q + aa for the health regen. With a sheen, that's actually quite a bit of burst on your aa.

2) Your q is ranged - it has enough range to be able to use it as reliable poke against most toplaners. This largely means free poke (especially at level 1, where most champs need to push level 2 before they can go aggressive).

So much this. Leona has no passive in solo lanes unless being camped by the jungler, and that's what makes Leona's burst so strong. Without her passive she'll be outtraded by most meta toplaners, if they can bait out her eclipse.

I have a bit of a problem on supports like Zyra and Karma. I'll go oom within the first few minutes, after I net my adc a kill/zone extremely heavily. Anyone have any tips for mana management on them?

Unrelated EDIT: I've decided every fizz player is toxic. I haven't met a non-toxic fizz ever.

BRO, no Draven? I get he has a high skillcap, but a good Draven is really good at punishing enemies for their mistakes - and this is soloq, that happens A LOT.

Spoiler: My ADC Tier List For SoloQ
S-Tier (PICK OR BAN):

Lucian

A-Tier (Solid all-around picks, good chance of hard carrying if skilled):

Twitch
Graves (Just a side-note on Graves, if you're not fed and dominating the mid game, you're doing it wrong)
Miss Fortune
Jinx
Draven
Corki

I wanna see yours too, then :P If you want, I can put my reasons beside every champ.

Actually, she was touched in one of the last few patches I believe - she's now so mana dependent that she needs to either be laning with soraka or take massive risks so she can use spellshield whenever it's off cooldown.

The problem with leaving Sivir at pre-nerf values is she could relatively easily win lane in many matchups before and follow up with a godlike ultimate that meant your team didn't need a hard engage. Many of her lane matchups are now skillbased (based around baiting out her spellshield so she can't stay in lane and use abilities to trade).

EDIT: Patch 4.4 - maybe not the second half of the split, but her usage dropped off here.

100% Agreed - all matchups are skill based to some extent (it's super easy to beat a Lucian who doesn't use his passive correctly, for example).

EDIT: No problem, Iece.

My solo queue ranking (at least normals, and sometimes ranked) is to the point where I hardcarry every game I get ADC in (and even some others).

Nonono, jungle braum is.qorse than top lane braum - shit clear times, unreliabe cc pre-6, and a hella long ult.cd.

You can't farm or.gank.

Instant gap close, and a somewhat reliable stun/slow is why he sort of works in jungle, only sort of.

Mind you the person who said he was somewhat decent didn't have an answer for when i said "Why not just go Vi?"

Watching Braum's in solo lanes is entertaining, watching as they get no where clearing waves and wondering why they are so behind in CS.
Don't listen to me - listen to foxdroplol, who's high Diamond in EU.

Again, Sort of.

Then why play a "sort of"? Play characters to their strengths, not their weaknesses. Braum's kit relies around his allies and protecting his allies. As a jungler, he can't do that because he's not near his allies.

Also, since I never fully replied to your comment before:

1) Gap closer - Unless your allies are within autoattack range of the enemy, this doesn't count. Plus you have no way (aside from flash) to catch up to an escaping target.

2) His Q - blocked by minions, making it unreliable to hit unless the laner cleared the minion wave first (and this is soloQ, not happening).

In post 31138, JasonWazza wrote:I never said play him, but he does sort of work in jungle, like a Vi with less of everything.

1) you don't need them in AA range you need them in Q range, not to mention Minions need to be in AA/Q range.

2) don't hit minions? (Like every skillshot blocked by minions)

If jungle Braum is a worse version of Vi, play Vi and not Braum in the jungle.

1) If you use your W to an ally behind minions, you won't hit your Q and you won't be able to autoattack. If you use your W on a melee minion, you better have your E up because you're going to get focused down and killed/forced to base otherwise.

2) Yeah, tell this to Nidalee. Fact of the matter is in every game you WILL accidentally Q a minion at least once.

If you want a tank in the jungle, pick amumu. Best tank jungler in the current meta. If you want a support jungler, pick Morgana. If you want a tanky support jungler, Leona's ganks are damn good, but she suffers with slow clears.

You realize i'm not saying his the best, i'm just saying he does work, and there can be reasons to have picked him.
And I'm syaing that there are better junglers for literally every situation, so you shouldn't pick him ever for jungler.

The best part about Irelia vs. Braum is that she can take the bonus damage and follow up with her own stun on Braum, and Q out after the stun is over. Add in Irelia's innate sustain and I imagine that wasn't a good Irelia.

I just figured out how extremely good MF/Braum is. She has the easiest time to proc the passive (aa, Q, aa) and the ult combo is really strong. Just destroyed Nami/Kog in lane.

EDIT: Also, Malphite is dumb. I hate him and Aatrox for the same reason - you have to be actually retarded to die at all.

I have no idea why people think bringing melee adcs bottom lane is a good idea - they just get poked out and lose lane hard. I haven't seen one win a game personally yet.

The basics concept of laning:

#1: CS

#2: Harass

#3: Ward coverage and jungle awareness

#4: Using a lead

#5: Punishing mistakes

#6: Catching up if/when behind

Which bits of this list do you need help with?
1, 4, 5 (6 was already covered). 3 I'm bad at jungle awareness but that's because I do't look at my minimap enough.

AP Sion can play pretty well with standard APC items, from what I've seen - and he can go AD as well, but the AP kit largely outclasses the AD kit (despite the AP kit only really focusing on two abilities).

I think the changes to Doran's Blade will cement Doran's Blade as the go-to top lane item - and anyone who can't use it efficiently will get booted from the meta. To that extent, I don't really like it.

EDIT: I'm stupid and thought the life steal on-hit was larger than it was.

PBE stuff in regards to item changes:

Spoiler: BFS / Attack Damage Items
B.F. Sword
Attack Damage: 45 --> 50

Infinity Edge
Attack Damage: 70 --> 80

Mercurial Scimitar
Total Cost: 3700 --> 3800
Attack Damage: 60 --> 80
Active: Now also gives the Movement Speed to ranged characters.

Notes: We've generally liked the fact that AP items have three distinct tiers of AP, 60 / 80 and 120 for major Ability Power items. We're taking some steps to get Attack Damage into similar tiers for the major Attack Damage items with 80 as our high-end point.

Youmu's Ghostblade
Active: Now lasts 6 seconds on ranged characters.

Notes: We've tried to remove ranged/melee splits on most of the locations on which they didn't seem to make sense anymore in the modern game.
...Yeah, we'll probably have to nerf Heal. Stop looking at me like that.

Spoiler: Attack Speed
Dagger
Total Cost: 400 --> 450
Attack Speed: 12% --> 15%

Zeal
Total Cost: 1175 --> 1100
Attack Speed: 18% --> 20%

Notes: Attack Speed is a hard stat to commit to - mostly because it's very trivial to overcommit to the stat - as by the end-game, you have a healthy amount of Attack Speed. What we're doing here is making the build up to a complete Attack Speed grant more Attack Speed along the way and be smoother on the way there.

Berzerker Greaves
Total Cost: 950 --> 1000
Attack Speed: 20% --> 25%

Notes: This is more tier 2 boot consolidation into the 1000 gold range - while keeping the deviations from the 1000 gold range intentional and part of that specific boots' strength or weakness.

Spoiler: Life Steal
Doran's Blade
Health: 80 --> 70
Attack Damage: 8 --> 7
Removed: Life on Hit Passive
(NEW) Life Steal: 0% --> 3%

Explanation: Yes, this is essentially a directional revert to S2 days of Doran's Blade. Basically, we tried to phase out Life Steal as an early game statistic in the transition from S2 to S3 - as Life Steal should feel compelling or expensive.

However, in that environment, sustain or defensive supports were at an all time high. A carry character didn't need much in the way of life steal early because there was a reliable source of sustain in their lane (the support.)

With the addition of offensive supports and the continuing rise of non-sustain supports, the limited amount of life steal options essentially forced all carries down a single path - Vampiric Scepter - as the sustain factor required in lane wasn't being provided from either the support or their Doran's Blade.

With only a single large source of life steal - carry players only had two options for life steal - Either stay at 4.5% from quints or dramatically overshoot and get 14.5% from Vampiric Scepter - which kind of makes sustain supports redundant to begin with.

I'm retuning life steal as a more expensive stat that is highly accessible in many different sources rather than it being more concentrated power because the reality of the situation is that there isn't a single life steal value that is correct if you cannot rely on a surplus of sustain from your support pick.

Hence, AD carry players need a wider array of smaller more flexible options that can build up to their ideal amount of life steal - based on the needs of the lane, their opponents and who their support is. In a high sustain lane, you might be able to get away with a Doran's Blade into an infinity edge, for example - whereas in a low sustain lane, you might need a couple of blades and a vampiric scepter - but the lack of offense on your side is compensated by the fact that you hav an offensive support.

TL;DR - A wider amount of smaller life steal options will make ADC builds more flexible because they'll be able to tailor the right amount of life steal for the situation - rather than be railroaded down one path if they need any amount of sustain.

Vampiric Scepter
Life Steal: 10% --> 8%

Bilgewater Cutlass
Life Steal: 12% --> 8%

Blade of the Ruined King
Life Steal: 12% --> 10%
Proc Damage: 5% Current Health --> 8% Current Health
Active Nuke Damage: 15% Maximum Health --> 10% Maximum Health
Active Movement Speed Slow: 30% Movement Speed Steal --> 25% Movement Speed Steal

Notes: Shifting this item to be a little more about the proc damage and less about the active nuke - which will shift it a bit more towards the sustained damage space rather than the burst space. This item looks nerfed - but only because so many things are changing around it - which you'll see in the followup posts - mostly Dagger becoming a better value in the build up to the item as well as Warden's Mail and Randuin's Omen which heavily impact this item more than any of the other items listed here.

Bloodthirster
Combine Cost: 850 --> 1100
Total Cost: 3250 --> 3500
Base Attack Damage: 70 --> 80
Base Life Steal: 12% --> 15%
Removed: Attack Damage / Life Steal - Stacking Passive
New Passive: "Your life steal can now overheal you, granting a shield that can block from 50 to 410 damage, based on champion level. This shield decays rapidly if you have not taken or dealt damage in the last 15 seconds."

Note: Passive is heavily non-linear scaling. At level 6, the shield is around 100. At level 16, the shield is around 330 - to give you an idea of how far up it scales.

Notes: Bloodthirster is kind of the ultimate snowball item design. If you rush it first, you get sustain and an AD advantage - that then keeps growing as you stay in lane for longer.

However - it was kept down by the fact that it was relative poor scaling compared to other options - an I.E. for example would dramatically outclass its damage mid game when combined with a multiplier item.

However, with the rise of ratio driven carries being the default rather than the exception - coupled with the sustain issues that made Vampiric Scepter the default rather than the exception - Bloodthirster proves to be a fairly unhealthy item in its current stacking iteration.
We've retuned Bloodthirster to be a heavy life steal / defensive option.

Notes: In the short term, we are aware that this leaves stacking Attack Damage builds in a bit of a pinch as there won't be an option for something like triple Bloodthirster heavy stack - it'll be something we'll be trying to figure out how to better support without running straight into Caster / Ratio driven carries dominating lane and suppressing traditional Attack Speed carries and then falling completely off the map - causing the entire carry role to feel somewhat anemic.

(NEW) Essence Reaver
RECIPE: Vampiric Scepter + Pickaxe + 950 Gold = 2650 Total Gold Cost
Attack Damage: 50
Life Steal: 10%
Cooldown Reduction: 10%
UNIQUE Passive: You gain 2 to 8% of the damage dealt by basic attacks as Mana. Mana drain increases based on how much Mana you are missing.

Notes: While iterating with life steal slots - we realized that caster based carries are split into two camps: One that needs mana - and one that wants ratios. While we were iterating, we stumbled across this item that seemed to allow for a really intensive mana spam/attack combat pattern that seemed fun especially on Ezreal (Q) /Graves (Q) / Corki / Draven (W) / Sivir (W).

Spoiler: Support Items
Mikael's Crucible
New Recipe: Chalice of Harmony + Forbidden Idol + 870 G = 2550 Gold Total
Mana Regeneration per 5 seconds: 10 --> 20
Cooldown Reduction: 0% --> 10%

Notes: Mikael's Crucible is dominant in competitive play and shuts down the value of our utility focused carries (Varus/Ashe) while being fairly ineffective against the more spammy pick patterns of everyone else (Elise 'E' for example). While we like what Crucible brings to the table - we'd like to shift it towards our more mana hungry supports (who tend to be more defensive) rather than being a generically good pickup for everyone.

(NEW) Ardent Censer
Recipe: Forbidden Idol + Aether Wisp + 400 G = 1950 Total Cost
30 Ability Power
10 Mana Regeneration per 5 seconds
10% Cooldown Reduction
8% Movement Speed
Unique Passive: Whenever you heal or shield another champion, they gain 25% Attack Speed for 6 seconds.

Notes: We wanted to create a mid-tier support item for supports now that Mikael's sits at a higher price point. We also want to see how you guys respond to this particular trigger effect as it has interesting interactions across supports. Thresh, for example, has an AoE AS boost from this item - while Janna and Lulu both offer attack steroids that synergize well with the Attack Speed.

And it's probably overkill on Nidalee.

Note this is your heals and shields on other champions - so self-healing is right out. When we tested it, there was a lot of weird rules cases and edge cases that seemed to make very little sense - how would you expect Malphite's passive to interact with this, for example?

Athene's Unholy Grail

Magic Resist: 40 --> 25
Mana Regeneration per 5 seconds: 15 --> 10
Mana Restoration on kill or assist: 12% --> 15%

Notes: Now that we have two Chalice of Harmony upgrades in a very similar price range, we wanted to do a pass on Athene's Unholy Grail (currently a very cost-efficient purchase) to make sure this item wasn't crowding out other items in the 'Mp5 + CDR' family. With Mikael's Crucible decisively taking the 'the defensive path' from Chalice, we choose to preserve Athene's offensive power. This meant reducing the item's Magic Resist and taking this as an opportunity to increase strength of the kill/assist passive. Those changes combined with a small adjustment to Morellonomicon should shore up the stat lines of these items.

Morellonomicon
Ability Power: 75 --> 80
Mana Regeneration per 5 seconds: 12 --> 10

Notes: Small stat adjustment as mentioned above. Though minor, this should help make Morellonomicon feel a bit better in terms of item slot efficiency as the game goes on.

Forbidden Idol
Cost: 750 Gold --> 700 Gold

Notes: Small cost adjustment. All items that use Forbidden Idol as a component will have the same overall cost (e.g., Morellonomicon will still cost 2200 Gold).

Locket of the Iron Solari

Unique Active will now use a recipient's level to calculate shield strength if the recipient's level is higher than the item owner's level.
Notes: This change should give a small boost to defensive support players that like to purchase Locket of the Iron Solari for their team.

Spoiler: Defensive Items
Warden's Mail
Attack Speed Slow: 15% --> 10%

Randuin's Omen
Attack Speed Slow: 15% --> 10%
Movement Speed Slow (On Being Hit): 10% --> 0%

Notes: This change will have heavy ramifications in the fighter space as Randuin's Omen effectively gave non gap-closing fighters a way into fights. However, this came at a significant expense to ADC kite patterns and general ADC power.

This also made carries with innate gap closing powers much more powerful in comparison to ADCs that didn't have gap closers as those abilities were unaffected by the slow of Omen.

We're aware that with the recent Heal changes, this move will probably tip the scales much in favor of the kite based ADC patterns - but we want to evaluate on live for a while before deciding just how much to scale back ADC kiting or scale up defensive itemization.

The only change that I'm not mostly sold on is the Essence Reaver - I like the idea, but it doesn't have enough AD to keep up with BotRK or BT - you're weaker in teamfights because of it, I'd say.

That said, I will be trying it out on Graves. BT also looks like a solid choice on him still, due to the shield and his low range.

ugh
I am so not excited about these AD changes - IE needs a nerf at this point, because deciding the lane on a random crit is not what should happen.

Nothing about this is correct.
There's a 300 gold difference at this point, so there's no reason to
not
go double dorans straight into IE. It's totally feasible for one lane to get IE at the same point that the other lane gets a BT.

What adc
won't
be rushing double doran's? After the across the board lifesteal nerf, it's practically mandatory. On top of that,the lowered zeal cost buffs the IE rush, as more as = more crits = more damage. Getting more crits, faster, and earlier, is just OP if you're OK with giving up both 2.25 AD (or whatever the attack speed quints give) and .5% life steal.

But let's assume someone is going single doran's into BT and I'm going double doran's IE. The gold difference is 775 - 300 + 475 for Doran's Blade. If I get a kill (no first blood or shutdown, and the target is 0/0/0), that's 300 gold. From there on out, I'm obtaining a CS lead and can now either get dragon (for a minimum of 140 gold) or go to mid and roam, or kill the other laner for another 300 gold.

It's
not
hard to become 775 gold up on the enemy duo lane as ADC if you play it right. Hell, even getting one kill and the obtaining a CS lead is enough to largely negate the cost difference of 1X DBlade BT and 2x DBlade IE.

Also, the BT shield is useless against an enemy ADC in general, as you can fairly easily 1-shot the shield with one autoattack at every level.

Typically AP carries aren't the ones getting focused out and instagibbed unless they're super far ahead.

Then the enemy team is doing something wrong.
I mean they're not the
first
(that belongs to the adc), so most of them can get away without lifesteal because they have a longer period of time to output damage. The adc needs lifesteal to survive being jumped on by literally everyone at all times.

Quinn suffers from the same problem as Fiora in terms of why we never see her as FOTM - she's not easy and has a lot of little quirks that stop her from being there, but a good Quinn can wreck face.

I'm gonna take a ranked break for today, that game was frustrating. Our Jinx d/cs for a while when we were winning (you can't go in 4v5, and you can't allow the enemy team with a nidalee to poke you under turret), allowing them to catch up, get baron, and win.

The Essence Reaver is going to be
very bad
for adcs until they buffs it's stats & raise it's price. There's a reason why people don't buy Ohmwrecker or Merc. Scim right now - the stats are not worth the gold.

With the passive, it IS gold efficient. But not every AD champ will need the passive. Also, it's a useless item after laning phase.

The B. F. Sword actually will give the same amount of AD, which is my problem with this item. You can build a B. F. for cheaper, and then make it something way more useful throughout the game.You also need to be ahead in lane for this to really do anything. To me, this item seems like it only has a place on AD Casters that are ahead in lane already - and if you're ahead in lane, why not just get a BF into something better?

I'll admit that I was off the mark for Merc. Scimitar, but I was pretty close for Ohmwrecker (gold infefficient vs. "really expensive the time slot the active is useful for"). I don't realy ever look at the items, sooo yeah.

I tend to buy chalice in AP vs. AP matchups - the magic resist is really nice to have in that case. I buy tear on a champ that can use the manamune/seraph's embrace active easily, and I'll buy RoA in every other situation (unless there's multiple healers on the enemy team, Ill buy morello's then).

IMO, the reason Twitch is really strong is because he can easily pick off squishy targets (he's really the "best" ADC at assassinating champs), and he has a really strong lategame teamfight with his AOE ult + passive.

Speaking of Ryze, I want opinions on my build:

Tear (Upgrade to manamune when charged, I appreciate the muramana active a lot) -> Catalyst -> Sorc Shoes -> RoA/Shroud (then get the other) -> (Generally FH) ->Banshee's -> WoTA/Void Staff

I don't camp lanes - I show up wherever I can get off the easiest ganks. If that means top lane because they're ALWAYS overextended and an easy gank, then so be it, I'll just place a ward dragon-side so we have a timer.

I'm going to avoid the list and just say "whatever side lane is closest to me at the moment" - it allows me to go from top/bot to mid to bot/top in one fell swoop without me backtracking if I can/want.

Also, if I show up top/bot, bot/top will (and should) push really hard/turret dive 3v2/2v1, so they won't reset.

He can't be any worse than he is now... so I'm considering this a buff. At the moment there is no reason to pick him - at least with this you get a decent CC-tank. If you're complainnig about his numbers... he's a tank - not a mage. You shouldn't be building AP on him anyways. Besides, buffing numbers is easy.

In post 31654, Krystal Bald wrote:Comparing it to Braum's passive is a joke. Braum gets twice the damage and twice the stun duration from his passive, AND it's easier to proc. And also Braum gets extra damage on his target after the proc.
The new cooldowns on his W and E mean it'll take about 25-50% longer for them to come off cooldown.
And if you proc the passive after hitting them with your slow? Well, you're eating into your slow duration, and now that it takes a flat 12 seconds to cooldown, you're probably not going to get another slow off.

They've increased the cooldowns and reduced the damage on all of his spells, and compensated him by giving him a passive that is less than half as good as that of an existing champion. I'll probably try Skarner once or twice, but I honestly don't see how it's going to be possible to do well with him.

Firstly, cooldowns:

Skarner's W cooldown went from 16 (patch 4.9) at every rank to 13/12.5/12/11.5/11 (patch 4.10).
Skarner's E cooldown went from 14 (patch 4.9) at every rank to 12 at every rank (patch 4.10).
Skarner's R cooldown went from 130/120/110 (patch 4.9) to 110/100/90 (patch 4.10).

Wow, those cooldowns sure did get longer!

Secondly, Skarner's stun does NOT need to be anywhere near as long as Braum's or do as much damage. The point is to slow them with Fracture, then either Q twice or E -> Q -> Ult to set them up BETTER for your allies. And you won't proc the passive during the slow if you E-Q-Q because your Q is on a 3.5 second cooldown and now way will you be autoing more than once (MAYBE twice, but with the aa timer it's still damn close) on a target. You also have 5 seconds to proc the stun. You can use the entire slow if you want to, but leblanc does not give two shits about your slow.

How often are you honestly going to be in range to autoattack champions, considering they almost all have some form of cc. The answer is, when not teamfighting, very rarely, as two lanes consist almost entirely of ranged champions and the third isn't a rare sight to see ranged champs in.

EDIT: You're not going to use W, E, or R if you're not in a fight anyways... so you don't lose out on much from his passive...

any

This is more of a general problem than anything. As Ahri I can (kind of) deal with him (Q minion waves forever and then charm for a kill eventually), but I run into problems with my other mid laners, as I get easily pushed under turret and poked out for forever and a half.

I also have problems teamfighting against him as a general rule.

It's either you remove the silence (and open counterplay) or you nerf her numbers (and make her less of an assassin)... either kinda detracts from what her kit should be doing, so Riot hits a hard spot.

I believe the problem was that her laning was good and transcended into a decent lategame (sure teamfighting is a bit of a problem, but why 5v5 when you can 4v5?). Don't quote me on this, I don't play lb.

Sooo I don't think there's an actual cooldown on the BT shield (it seems to refresh upon autoattack). Am I stupid or something? Seriously though. A shield that blocks 160 damage on teamfights and consistently refreshes on autos midgame is so good.

It's not that hard to assume where the jungler will be. Easy examples:

1) The game just started. Until 3:00 or so, most junglers will be clearing their buffs. At which point, they might try to gank an over-extended lane.
2) The enemy laner just acted unnaturally aggressive/passive. The jungler is probably nearby.
3) Bot lane is MIA after a successful engagement and pushed the enemies back. Either they are going back for items or the jungler is helping them take dragon.

If you ask the jungler to not come and they do, suck it up and help with the gank.

I disagree. When you are ready you are ready. I think the important thing is to have around 3 roles you are at least comfortable doing and hopefully a couple champs on your best.
This.

I went 6/4 in my promos - very lucky, yes indeed. That said, I can already tell that their team comp had a purpose, and yours didn't and that their teamcomp would stomp your teamcomp in teamfights unless your team was massively ahead - Fizz and Rengar can instaburst Cait and Zed (and maybe Xin too). leaving you without your primary damage sources.

Between Vi, Fizz, and Rengar, they were going to dive Caitlyn - how often did you peel for her? Block the Fizz ult for Caitlyn, force Rengar and/or Fizz out of the fight, purchase pink wards so you can see Rengar. I can guarantee that if you did all of these things successfully multiple times, you could have hard carried that match.

If you're playing Renekton, your job in teamfights is to soak damage and be in the middle of their team with all of your AOE abilities - if "in the middle of their team" means "on Caitlyn", then your job is also to protect Caitlyn.

It's more important that your carries be alive as opposed to their carries being dead. As such, your goal as *every* role that isn't a carry, is, by default, protect your carries if they have a heavy risk of being dived on BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE.

Maybe my wording there was bad - as Renekton, you want to be where most of the enemy team is. Most of the enemy team is going to be on top of Caitlyn in the linked game. Ergo, you want to be there before the enemy team gets there so you can use your AOE abilities to the fullest. This means things like warding the entrances to mid lane, so you can be aware if fizz is coming up from behind your team for a surprise ult on Caitlyn.

Going to go about this as best I can. Anyone who wants to explain further/has a different opinion can still say stuff, but since I'm here and whatnot.
In post 31904, EspeciallyTheLies wrote:What kind of items would I want to have available in an item set for top lane people? What about champs who do both physical damage and magic damage? What about fighters whose skills are all magic damage? What about tanks?
An example item set for someone like Shyvanna/Renekton (tanky bruisers who like to dive):

Blade of the Ruined King, Ninja Tabi/Merc. Treads, Sunfire Cape, Spirit Visage/Banshee's Veil, Randuin's Omen, Ravenous Hydra(?).

Example item set for Fiora/Xin/Wukong (less so tanky bruisers, more so melee carries):

Ravenous Hydra, Ninja Tabi/Merc. Treads, Black Cleaver, Last Whisper, Randuin's Omen, Guardian Angel.

Several mages can also be played top (and build like they would in mid lane).
I really only ever play with ADC or mages, and lately I've really enjoyed support, but when it comes to melee type people, I have no idea what I'm doing and I die all the time and look like an idiot. I don't know what to build when, or why I'm building what I'm building.

For Summoner's Rift, what kind of strategy should I be using as a fighter? As a tank? What's my "job"?

Also, what would you consider "essential" items for support champs? Which support/mage type champ would you consider the most versatile (i.e. excellent support but can solo just fine if necessary)?
For supports, you core items are the following:

1) GP10 (Gold icome) item (Coin, Spellthief's, Relic Shield)
2) Tier 2 boots (I'd choose Boots of Mobility, Ninja Tabi, or Merc. Treads mostly. Some supports can get away with Sorcerer's Shoes)
3) Sightstone

You then have 3 items that you can build whatever you want. AP-Carry type supports should consider a Haunting Guise, where tankier supports might want to go Randuin's Omen, Sunfire Cape, Banshee's Veil. Consider a chalice of Harmony on all supports, into an Athene's for more AP and CDR, or a Mikael's Crucible for the active.

In regards to fighters, you generally want to follow up on someone else who initiated and wreck havoc on the enemy squishies. Tank are meant to be the front liners, and soak up a ton of damage and often initiate fights as well. In addition, many tanks *can* support (ex. Shen, Mundo), but an mage that has good base damage and solid crowd control/utility *can* support, and then also go mid (ex. Orianna, Karma, Morgana, Annie).
Oh yeah, and what other champs are there like Garen who don't have any mana bar to worry about?

Thanks for helping this nub. <3
Aatrox, Dr. Mundo, Mordekaiser, Vladmir, and Zac use health as a resource.

Akali, Shen, Kennen, Zed, and Lee Sin use energy as a resource (Kind of like mana, but regens much faster as a trade for longer cooldowns/lack of ability to spam spells).

Garen, Katarina, Renekton, Rengar, Riven, Rumble, Shyvanna, Tryndamere, and Yasuo all have no costs to their abilities, but tend to have glaring weaknesses to make up for it.

In post 31908, EspeciallyTheLies wrote:Oo so much good info - thanks Ani and Iec!
No problem!
For the wandering team mate, I mean in the beginning, straight up roaming into lanes to steal minions/kills and leaving their lane either unattended or their partner alone to die. Do I just... go somewhere else or deal with the reduced income/XP?
If you're laning (say, mid) and you want to roam, what you do is hard shove the lane into their tower and then go to the lane you want to roam to. This means that the lane will reset on it's own, and you will be able to roam with less lost gold and XP. You can also ask your jungler to come hold the lane if you want - most junglers will gladly hold a lane for the increased XP and gold.
Other questions:

What is "CDR"?

Where do items like Abyssal Scepter and Rod of Ages fall as far as use? I see them listed in guides all the time but I don't understand why these are included instead of other items that seem more useful.

Wards! I don't get it. Where am I putting them? Why am I putting them there? When do I put them there? Also, they disappear so I don't know how useful I'm being by putting them anywhere. I know that both of you have probably shown me on the map but I still don't understand.

Edit: Also, Deathcap/Zhonya's/that other thing that also gives +120 AP - which, when and why?

<3
CDR = Cooldown Reduction. Caps at 40%.

Rod of Ages is a pretty strong general mana/AP item. Great for early purchase for any AP champ that wants to build somewhat tanky, as you get bonus health, mana, and AP from the item as time goes on. A good example is Malzahar, as he's really immobile and his ult forces him to stand still. Getting a Rod of Ages allows him to take more damage.

Abyssal Scepter is a decent item. Good for melee AP champs such as Diana and Katarina, as all of their damage is within the range of the Abyssal Passive and the extra tankiness is invaluable. It also works well on teams with many AP champs, as it amplifies all magic damage within the aura radius.

Stealth Wards cost 75 gold and are up for 3 minutes. They also give vision of an area. Long story short, information is power. Wards give information (where enemies that normally wouldn't be visible are/are not). Vision Wards are also amazing, as they reveal stealthed units, but are visible to the enemy team.

Deathcap - Every AP midlaner ever as a 3rd or 4th item. The damage increase is really, really good between the 120 AP and the unique passive.

Zhonya's Hourglass - Generally a 6th item build, as the active is really nice and 120 AP is a lot. However, some champions (Fiddlesticks, Morgana, Twisted Fate) love this item due to it's synergy with their kit, allowing them to dive effectively, so they can rush it really effectively.

Deathfire Grasp - Used generally for the active, allowing you to burst down a squishy with relative ease. As such, this item works best on champions like Leblanc, Syndra, or Ahri, who can 100-0 champs with a full skill rotation very fast.

---

Re: Shen. I like to build him with health & tankiness, as his passive scales off of bonus health and his Q scales off of maximum health. My standard build is Sunfire Cape, Ninja Tabi/Merc. Treads, Spirit Visage, Randuin's Omen, [Damage Item], Warmogs. Items like Blade of the Ruined King and Abyssal Scepter are also really good on Shen and increase his damage output. Sheen is /really/ good on Shen, but it's a bit of a wasted buy because sheen gives mana and Shen runs off of energy.

I've seen people fuck up and think they were in the wrong lane, so I first mention that said lane is whoever's it really is. If they refuse to leave still (which is VERY rare), then I report them afterwards.

Low elo is the equivalent of pre-30, bronze, silver, and potentially low gold level players. High elo is mid-high gold, platinum, diamond, and challenger.

In "completely useless item nerfs" news, Madred's Razor saw a 25 gold price increase.

Also, Hunter's Machete rework:

Spoiler: Hunter's Machete
Price increased to 325 from 300.
Now grants +10 attack damage vs Monsters
Now Grants +5 damage reduction vs Monsters.
Unique Passive: Maim REMOVED.

OK, serious question. How do I midlane? I may as well be speaking some unknown language when I play mid. Everything else I can do with moderate success, but midlane champs end up with me feeding my ass off nomatter how safe I play.

Someone explain to me how to beat Caitlyn in lane. I don't see it. All I see is a walking free win.

EDIT: I have never won lane against a good Cait, and it is very rare for me to win games against one. Her combination of range and mobility makes her impossible to touch in lane without going oom.

A) The cooldown is far too long for her sole CC.

B) She's really item dependent.

Compre Ahri to Lulu as a support. Ahri can peel one target every 20 seconds with a charm. Lulu can polymorph one, shield you, glitterlance another for a slow, and ult you if need be. See why Ahri's not a support?

Explain to me what Ahri brings as a support that she doesn't from mid lane - what she can offer in terms of peel, engage, or other things supports do. Because AP Ahri can arguably do support Ahri's job better.

I'm totally OK with Cait being a good laner, I just feel like her laning is way too strong - like above Renekton levels - and I don't like that's fair.

Her long range and mobility makes it nigh impossible to get on top her of, so you can burst her down - and I can never get the width of her Q right, so I always end up eating it when I don't think I should be (admittedly the last one s my fault).

I don't play top lane a lot - that said, my top laners are Shen (no) and Pantheon (only if he takes a shitton of spears early).

Someone explain to me how Lee Sin is balanced - because I don't see it. (I know I complained about Caitlyn, but lee sin has literally EVERYTHING stuffed into his kit and is unfun to play against. I just got blown up by a lee sin who built ONLY sword of the occult as an offensive item).

@Ray:

You know who else would appreciate non-ult hard CC (in regards to ONLY supports)? Sona. Karma and Zilean (and Nidalee, if we consider Nidalee a support) would appreciate hard CC at all. And I meant his W is a secondary gapcloser (my bad).

Lee doesn't NEED to use more than one, maybe two, rotations of spells in a team fight - his job in teamfights is to ult the squishy into he rest of the team, for a 5 man knockup.

And in regards to what kind of lee sin is beating me - generally jungle sin (I've beaten lanesin with Wukong and Shen). I don't get ganked too much, but the other die. A lot.

On the topic of "carrying from low ELO", a good support-y style top laner I've found is Shen. Your early game (pre-6) is quite weak, but after that you can easily impact the other lanes and win 1v1 duels with most other top laners - I even beat a Shyvanna in lane as Shen (which is an admittedly bad matchup). You also build mainly tank-y items, which helps you do extra damage.

Don't ask me why Rumble had 61 cs - he went mid vs. Diana and would have been wrecked HARD if not for me.

FWIW, I tried a slightly different 21-9-0 rune page, grabbing sorcery instead of fury and lucidity boots because I was ahead. I think it worked.

Agreed - while I believe you should be able to play multiple different types of champions decently (ex. learning Lux vs. learning Kassadin), having some champions that you can play proficiently just makes everything easier/more fun.

EDIT: When you want to pick up a champion, it's best to look at champs you like to play and ask yourself why, as well. Looking at those examples can give you a base to work from, so you can pick other champions with better efficiency and NOT waste ip.

Catalyst is amazing as an item early. The sustainability this item gives is worth a health pot and 2 mana pots every level - allowing you to stay in lane longer (and spend less $$$ on pots). You buy Catalyst into RoA and not the Blasting Wand because Catalyst is a good laning item.

I feel like a level 6 malz that just used every ability on a squishy laner of near-equal level could easily 1-shot them (especially with ignite if wanted and malefic visions dealing DOT).

Someone give me an idea on what I want to buy next. As an example, some of my best/favourite champs in each role:

Top: Ryze, Shen, Pantheon (Have been kinda learning wukong top)
Jungle: Wukong, Xin Zhao, Pantheon, Evelynn
Mid: Twisted Fate, Ahri (I can kinda play Talon, and am somewhat learning Orianna/Ryze mid)
ADC: Graves, Lucian, Jinx, MF
Support: Karma, Thresh

I'm considering Zed (The Zed outplays are REAL), Zyra (Has damage and CC, good at zone control), Varus (I really like his ult), Lulu (Good even when behind, can go anywhere), and Ziggs (Stalls are OP).

Won a 4v5 with Ryze mid. Rengar had to d/c because of possible food poisoning (but did not leave before chain feeding their Lee), but we still owned their faces. I was so nervous...

Why do you hate on wukong? He's got so much potential! I'm 100% confident he's a (read as: one) tier below Elise/Evelynn/Lee/J4. Plus he's got insane amounts of damage, solid ratios (Q and R both have a 1.1 TOTAL AD ratio), good base damage (240 on W, 200 on R), and has multiple different build paths that can be used while still being relevant. Plus dat ult.

You underestimate the power of wukong's kit. Sure, he relies on his ult a lot - but he has massive amounts of outplay potential at any point. He's one of the best champions in terms of outplay - there's no counting the amount of times I've come up with some silly juke or baited a towerdive and come out on top.

Vi's ban rate is 7.59% right now - to compare, Evelynn's the highest banned jungler (and 6th most banned champ) at 33.32%.

Highest winrates in ranked:

Top: Shen (3 of 6 games)
Jungle: Wukong (9 of 14 games)
Mid: Lux (My only mid game ever in ranked was a win with a 16 KDA).
ADC: Lucian (4 of 5 games)
Support: Thresh (3 of 5 games)

I never thought I'd say this.. but I lose lane to Fiora every time no matter what I'm playing. I've tried poking her out (innate sustain BS), out lane bullying her (she combos me down 100-0 no matter what), and sustaining vs. her (combos me from 100-0).

What. the. fuck.

I've tried Shen and rushing every armor I could possibly buy - I've tried Ryze and poking her from range. I've tried outbullying her with Pantheon. NOTHING has worked.

If I plan on playing jungle monkey, I'll always ban Lee Sin - not so much Elise, I can work around her (and decoy her stuns). If Lee Sin is picked, I'll jungle Xin - he's got a great level 3 and can go aggressive (max Q first), or safe (max E first) depending on matchup/how the game is going.

I've been loving duelist MF since preseason, she's so fun! Getting triforce on her, while not the most popular build, actually has some decent results - with it, almost no other ADC can beat her in a straight 1v1 thanks to both Q and W.

And the ult can also be used like Lucian's if the other team isn't grouped up (i.e. hitting someone out of range of your regular skills).

TriForce MF is so underrated - you get Phage and Sheen proc from your Q, so rushing it is totally legit in lane. Then you can shit on your lane with ult.

Alternatively, full-pen MF is a walking ult if the enemy team has little/no hard cc. Her ult just wrecks it's hilarious.

Have you tried BC & LW at once, Oman? Seriously. Do it sometime. It's hilarious. And Graves Q does damage per bullet hit - 100% for the first one, I believe 35% for the other 2 if they all hit the same target. But you do get damage per wave on MF ult.

I'm with Bro on this one - Maokai's better than he was before - but in a world of earlygame junglers and lategame hypercarries, there's better picks.

Also, changes I'm looking forward too:

1) Essence Revear being viable
2) Ahri buffs
3) Lucian changes (These seem like fun changes - he's definitely a hyper-mobile spellslinger now).

I don't think the BT changes will be enough.

Agreed - Varus is pretty fun. Beat a Thresh/Cait with Thresh/Varus (teambuilder etc.)

It's designed for caster carries - things that use spells a lot. Now it'll be useful on, Ezreal or Lucian (maybe Talon) because their abilities are essential to their kits - and I still don't think BT will be any good.

There are more ADCs with mana problems than those two. Graves, Sivir and MF are prime examples (and all three can have mana problems throughout the game due to short range or dem ults). You can even build it on Ashe or Jinx now for perma Qing. You don't even always need the shield that BT gives, and on something like Graves, Essence Reaver + BT would be a damn good combo on him for lategame due to all the AD on those items. There's also Jayce and Yorick, who were decent with the item beforehand.

That's what I believe.
EDIT: I so read this wrong - basically they want to give Manamune and Archangel's + upgrades an actual identity and usefulness outside of 3 champions a piece.
