(1) The most important thing you must know:
regardless of my alignment I never lie in these spoilers. Never.
Keep in mind that this goes only for the spoilers labelled as "IC Stuff". Any other spoilers are part of the game.
This point goes in the other direction too:
I will not use the fact that I'm the IC of this game in my reasoning.
(I may build upon my previous experience about things but that's different – after all, there are other players here with some experience.)
(2) The sooner you're familiar with the commonly used expressions and abbreviations, the better.
Here are two pages about this topic:
Glossary
Commonly Used Abbreviations
Also, it's normal that players use short forms of each other's names. You'll get familiar with these too and feel free to use them. However, if you're voting, make it sure that it's clear for the Mod [the one who's in charge of this particular game] whom you are voting for.
(3) You're going to find plenty of useful tips and guides on the MafiaWiki. It's best to bookmark this page:
http://wiki.mafiascum.net/index.php?title=Main_Page
You'll find plenty of tips and articles there, but keep in mind that MafiaWiki is
not
all-powerful. Some of the pages are outdated. (For example, you can find some old newbie games there, which used a different Setup than this one does.)
(4) Before you start to think so, I'm telling this:
role PMs are totally random
. Some says that newbies don't get town PRs or SEs and the IC are more likely scum than others.
Wrong!
Everyone has the
same
chance for getting a certain role. (What are PRs? Just check the page about Abbreviations ^_^)
(5) Get familiar with the post editor. For example, if you want to make a spoiler like this, use the "spoiler=" icon. You can also name your spoiler by adding some text after the "="
Once you submit a post you're unable to change it anymore!
(6)
This Is Mafiascum.
Some of you may have played on different forums and/or In Real Life games. Trust me,
online games are very different from IRL games and there are major differences between forums
. Your other site / IRL experience is worth
much less
than you think. I've made this mistake in my first newbie. Since I've just explained this, you needn't make the very same mistake. ^_^
For example, on certain forums if someone gets wagoned, most likely they get lynched on that very Day. It rarely happens on MafiaScum and it's especially uncommon on Day1.
(7)
If you're town, do not ever self-vote nor self-hammer.
In a nutshell: if you're getting lynched as a townie, you're 100% sure that it'll be a mislynch. You want to lynch scum and by self-voting you go for a 0% chance. (On the other hand, there are situations when a self-hammer is not a bad strategy as a scum. Very, very rarely you might come across situations when it's viable for a townie to self-vote but those situations don't show up in a Newbie.)
(8)
Do not claim your role without a reason!
In general, don't claim if you're not forced to do so.
What does that mean? If you're at L–1 (the next vote on you will lynch you) and someone intents to hammer (wants to vote for you), claim! Even if you get Nightkilled most probably if you have a PR, you may avoid getting lynched, which is useful.
This rule goes for Vanilla Townies too!
Consider this: if you're not forced to do so but you still claim being a VT you make for the scum easier to find the town PRs.
If you have a town-PR and you have enough bits of useful infromation, you may consider claiming earlier – however, this
never
happens on Day1 in a Newbie game. Finding the right moment for claiming is tricky, though. I may post more about this later.
(9) Should you have any questions about rules, game theory, etc., fire them away! About these topics I'll always tell the truth. (And I'll use the same spoiler-format.) There will be more IC-posts later, but I don't want to over-burden anyone.
(10) Because I'm the IC here, this game will be my top priority. This means, if I have very little time and I can post only in one single game, this will be the one. Regardless of my alignment here or anywhere else, obivously.
