Newbie 1252: The Other Game Town Wins!

I'm irritated I was that far off on my read of you. What do y'all look for in scum anyway?

It's hard to say, but one of my personal favorites is a cognitive disconnect in reads/actions/behavior. If you're seeing a lot of glaring contradictions, there's got to be a reason behind it.

I think cognitive dissonance is not a bad tell...though I would also caution that it can simply be an exercise in finding someone who uses poor logic (which, sadly, happens a fair shake). But I do think that's a good way to phrase a general scumhunting tool.

To describe my own methods...I'm not sure I've ever tried. I've had people accuse me of playing 'Psychology' and not Mafia before - and I think there is some decent truth o that. A lot of my reads are based on me getting an opinion of the individual player and then deciding if a given action is in or out of character for them (a lot of my town cases include phrases like "I don't think he'd have done that if Player X was his scumbuddy - he can be obv. town now")

Also, by Meyers Briggs I'm an INTJ personality. In other words, I extrovert thinking...but I actually make a lot of my judgements based on intuition and what 'feels' right (I've actually tried to work on this to more openly understand and follow my gut and overall have liked the results).

I think that's why a lot of my play bugs people. I seem to work off logic and very much extrovert that while also being obviously judging of other players. However, when it comes to alignment tells I often grab onto very thin ideas and claim them as absolutes - which leaves it odd to really get a clear follow of my methods sometimes.

Another big part of my play is wagon analysis (I ended up dead too fast to do it here) where I'll look at vote wagons and narrow down scumspects that way, and this is also a solid method. I'll also admit I town hunt a LOT. I actually think townhunting is better and easier than scumhunting. If you can find things that scum almost certainly wouldn't do then you can start ruling out people as lynch options...then just lynch some of what's left (look in the DeadQT - that's how I ended up "catching" Rach...she was just all that was left).

Experience also helps quite a bit, because you'll get a better and better idea of how the game flows and certain moves and actions will eventually start feeling 'off' to you, and those become scumtells as well (and, again, that's why people have a hard time reading me - I have non-standard play that still looks townish, so I trigger their scumdars while also not looking scummy at all, leaving me an awkward uncertainty that people suspect even when I'm confirmed town, but that they have a hard time lynching even when I'm confirmed scum)

BTW I am an ENFP though I have very close to balanced in E and I, and F and T on the Meyers-Briggs test. Extremely high on N though very little S.

I think my last test was ISFJ? That said, everything is pretty balanced (and has tested the reverse, years ago) but I/E - I'm a strong I.

That's pretty similar to me as well, but I don't have enough knowledge of a player's psychology most of the time.

As far as I can remember, I think I'm INTJ but it has been a loooooong time so I could be quite off. And a quick look on Wikipedia tells me I am definitely an INTJ.

That's actually cool three of us are in one game - it's one of the rarer personality types (indeed, the 2nd most rare after the rather uncommon INFJ). I suspect the aspects of the game of Mafia tend to appeal to us more than with some other personality types.
