Here it is! I've tried to make it simple but not too simple, while adding some fresh new elements to the game. Also, this game is noticeably shorter than the other games (I’m a fan of shorter games.) I’d love to hear some suggestions/questions.
-----
[EDIT: I'm not sure about a game name.. how's "The Counting 8-Ball Game"?]
Rules:
1) No double posting.
2) You only score points for posts that end in a 0, 4, 5, or 9.(This rule will hopefully prevent people from being so reluctant of posting 3’s)
3) The amount of points you earn is directly related to the # of your post.
In other words…
If you post inPost Subject 4you score 4 points.
If you post inPost Subject 5you score 5 points. etc…
4) From Post 600 and onwards, wedoublethe points, so…
post 600 = 1200 points.
post 604 = 1208 points.
post 605 = 1210 points. etc…
But here’s the "8-Ball" catch!
5) Every time you post a # that ends with an “8”, you don’t immediately earn any points, but instead you “reserve” a number(an 8-Ball)for when we get to the 800’s.(You’re making an “8-Ball” prediction of the future, I guess!)You reserve the # you posted backwards.
Examples: post #138 reserves post #831
Eventually, 80 #s(8-Balls)from “800” to “897” will be reserved for someone.
6) When we reach # 800, we scrap rules 2, 3, and 4. Instead…
7) If you post on a # you reserved, you earn 1000 points.
8) If you post on a # someone else reserved, you steal 500 of their points.
9) If you post on a # that wasn’t reserved (ex: 808, 809, 818, etc.) You earn 500 points.
10) From post #890 onwards you’re allowed to post only once every 4 hours, but double posting is allowed.
11) Post #898=2000 points, #899=3000 points, #900=4000 points
12) The game ends on Post #900.
----------------------
Enjoy! I also had another idea for the 8-ball twist, but I'm not sure if it's too complicated...
"Every time you reserve an 8-Ball, you must place a wager from 1000-2000 points. If you pick up your 8-ball, you earn your points. If someone else picks it up, you lose those points."
What do you think?-

It's a board showing the numbers from 800-899. I put in the example I used in post 809 (with us 2). We know the entire board represents the 800's. Each row is the tens' digit, and each column is the ones' digit. I wasn't sure which way to represent the ten's digit (as you can see, I've used 5 different types)...
mind you, I think we should wait for other people to look at my game and open up the discussion. Also, I'm not sure if we should be doing yet another posting game ATM lol.
[EDIT: oops! sorry bout that... I think we should get our timing act together
Also, I realized that my 8-Ball Game combines the elements from this game and the "posting game II"]Last edited by ZeroSum on Tue Aug 08, 2006 5:26 am, edited 2 times in total.-

raj I don't know HOW but I know It's a double post
[quote="8 ball"]Rules:
1) No double posting.Agreed. What's The Penalty
2) You only score points for posts that end in a 0, 4, 5, or 9. (This rule will hopefully prevent people from being so reluctant of posting 3’s)I think it should be all numbers before 8 which makes 8 balls
3) The amount of points you earn is directly related to the # of your post.
In other words…
If you post in Post Subject 4 you score 4 points.
If you post in Post Subject 5 you score 5 points. etc…
4) From Post 600 and onwards, we double the points, so…
post 600 = 1200 points.
post 604 = 1208 points.
post 605 = 1210 points. etc…
But here’s the "8-Ball" catch!
5) Every time you post a # that ends with an “8”, you don’t immediately earn any points, but instead you “reserve” a number (an 8-Ball) for when we get to the 800’s. (You’re making an “8-Ball” prediction of the future, I guess!) You reserve the # you posted backwards.

Eventually, 80 #s (8-Balls) from “800” to “897” will be reserved for someone.
6) When we reach # 800, we scrap rules 2, 3, and 4. Instead…
7) If you post on a # you reserved, you earn 1000 points.Agree see Below
8 ) If you post on a # someone else reserved, you steal 500 of their points.I dislike this make it If you post on someone elses reserved space you get 500 and they get 500 so it's still 1000 points
9) If you post on a # that wasn’t reserved (ex: 808, 809, 818, etc.) You earn 500 points. It means they have also reserved it so posting on it automatically scores 1000 exc. 809
10) From post #890 onwards you’re allowed to post only once every 4 hours, but double posting is allowed.
11) Post #890=1,000 #891=2,000 #892=3,000 #893=4,000 #894=5,000 #895=6,000 #896=7,000 #897=8,000 #898=9,000 points, #899=10,000 points, #900=15,000 points
12) The game ends on Post #900

I've got one the HOT POTATOE GAME
where there are 10 players everyone posts
last person to post 100 times WITHOUT double posting
is Eliminated
then the 9 players race to post 90 times last person is eliminated
Etc.
THE FINAL 2 have 500 post they cannot double post unless it's been 1 hours since their last post
so the only way to win is stay online for more hours than your opponent-

How about you lose 20% of your current score each time?Max wrote: 1) No double posting.Agreed. What's The Penalty
I don't get what you mean. (sorry)Max wrote: 2) You only score points for posts that end in a 0, 4, 5, or 9. (This rule will hopefully prevent people from being so reluctant of posting 3’s)I think it should be all numbers before 8 which makes 8 balls
Here's why I did it. I wanted to have some form of negative points. I also want to make sure people pick up their reserved 8-balls, and that they'll have a penalty for not doing so. This will involve some planning ahead, because double posting will still not be allowed. But maybe it should be lessened. How about "they lose 500, and you gain 100"?8 ) If you post on a # someone else reserved, you steal 500 of their points.I dislike this make it If you post on someone elses reserved space you get 500 and they get 500 so it's still 1000 points
Ok, that works (with the 808,818, etc.) ! I think I'll just make "#809, 819, etc." worth nothing, to keep it simple.Max wrote:9) If you post on a # that wasn’t reserved (ex: 808, 809, 818, etc.) You earn 500 points. It means they have also reserved it so posting on it automatically scores 1000 exc. 809
Hmm, that's an idea. But keep in mind, #890-#897 (and in the case you suggested) even #898 are reserved. That's why I only added more points to #898-#900. What happens when someone else steals your, say, 5000 points?Max wrote:11) Post #890=1,000 #891=2,000 #892=3,000 #893=4,000 #894=5,000 #895=6,000 #896=7,000 #897=8,000 #898=9,000 points, #899=10,000 points, #900=15,000 points
Yeah, I've thought of that. There's only 1 problem, though: that table would be really long (81 rows). (then again, it's only goign to be on the first page, so, that's not really a problem. what was I thinking?) I think we should do both that table and one that I suggested (like my second one).Max wrote: The way mod shows reseved places are

Why, though? I don't see how that leads to a better game. I agree that we need to make the endgame worth the most, but I don't want to make it worthMax wrote:All reserves in the final 10 are thrown out of the windowtoomuch because then people wouldn't want to participate during the beginning/middle of the game (if they knew it wasn't worth much in the end.)-
