Either stack (at least game is enjoyable), or just step back and watch some more pro games. I find watching pro games tend to highlight the mistakes I make in the game with regards to grasping/controlling tempo, and decision making.

I buy wards, cours, support and still have to try and carry a heavy team in addition to getting ping spammed by a feeding noob for not coordinating with his feeding. Shits just depressing when more often than not I'm playing a wonderful support game but team can't do shit.

Well given that team comp all we needed were big chronos followed up by sven ult, but team repeatedly took bad fights despite me giving directions on what to do and what not to do. :/

Well there are a few who don't need a ton of farm. Viper with a mek and possibly aghs can be just as good teamwise for supporting. I have even seen an influx of support alch's recently in pro games even. Sometimes greedy is good as long as you balance it properly.

Or you can be the guy who instapicks the carry

I would've been useless in the first 10-20 mins of the game though, with no hope of controlling the flow of the game.

I would instapick carry more if I knew what the other team comp is. having a carry that sucks vs the other team makes for a very miserable and sad game.

It's not. Dota is about winning.

If stats were the case, no one would risk their lives to protect others when they should (support saving a carry or multiple teammates in exchange for their lives for example). Also it would encourage ks'ing and last-hitting heroes, at times letting enemy heroes get away because people were too selfish in wanting the hero kill.

No one cares about how well you played, only whether you win or not. Look at dendi in game 5 of the TI3 finals.

I used to love getting maelstrom --> SB. I think the current meta favors lothars before maelstrom though.

Also, I think there are things that MMR numbers don't say. I got the MMR for my smurf, and although it's only 200-300 lower than my main, the skill level between the two accounts differs greatly. Makes me wonder what really determines skill rating

As for builds, do NOT max greed IF your lane is not going smoothly. For example, if you have some retard who thought it was cool to pick jungle instead of a 2nd support, and they're offensive trilaning you, go for fighting build. You should always scale stun at lv1 though.

Also I discovered last night how fun it is to explode ppl as a support alchy, spray + medallion + stun can take off 70-80% hp for most heroes when you hit lv7.

Dusa is godly and the strongest carry (imo) that you can have once farmed up. The problem tends to be getting the farm on her, and surviving to late game in the first place. She;s quite susceptible to ganks in the first 15-20mins (depending on how fast you farm your items), and 5-man pushes can pin you to your highground pretty fast.

Grab a ranged jungle creep and put it near your ancients. Stack the ancients with the jungle creep.

Share control and tell your supports to do it if you're at a level where they understand what that means

doesn't necessarily have to be ranged, though you cant be careless with a melee creep.

I like this post. Cause it assumes competent players at all.

I havn't seen a tri lane in anywhere other then cap's in like...... ever.

dual lanes are actually so strong this patch, but most players are still stuck in the old meta. My games consist of mostly trilanes, with rotating (smoking if good) supports.

Played a duallane off as CM with BB yesterday, and got 8min blink and 19min sheep.

p.s. CM + BB lane is op as fuck

Hell I never used to get drums because it was incredibly hard to find in dota1 and that I never saw anyone build it anyways, but once you start getting drums you'll love what it gives you (gives you a lil bit of everything, from hp to mana to agi to ms+as).

I only touch CM if I'm in a party, my captains are terribad and I can never click the captain button fast enough.

Bane mirana work as supports, but its not really that reliable. I'm not fond of mirana support anyhows she can roam but she drops off HARD if she doesnt get kills.

I would imagine wraith support is strong in current patch, given that his ult slows 75% when he dies (not upon res anymore), so he can pretty much run in and stun, and win teamfights for your team, not to mention is awesomely reworked aura.

You're typically not spell spamming anyways if you're roaming, which you typically want when you have a cm support (paired with something else).

My keys are QWER, and special keys prob FD. Hero 1, Cour 3 (wc3 habits die hard), some items mapped to XCV SPACE B (and one unmapped item slot i dunno why).

Typically I have my most important item mapped to SPACE (wand early on, force staff/blink later on), as it's easy to just panic-mash space.

Luna can be very squishy, but she has a much stronger early-mid game presence than a lot of heroes. She can also push rather fast. Need good positioning and good item building.

In general tanky heroes are good to start out with, if only because they don't die as easily. CK is one that I can think of off the top of my head (alch used to be one but not so much anymore). I tend to build a very tanky spec, but you need very good map awareness to play her to her fullest potential.

Let's see... bristleback can be very tanky... as can slardar... Doom is most definitely tanky but has low armor (solved by AC/shivas). Dragon knight is very very tanky but he is more of a semi-carry. Spirit breaker is certainly tanky. Skeleton King is a tank and his new ult does wonders in teamfights (slow takes place when you die rather than when you res). Tiny pretty tank as is husk.

A lot depends on your playstyle.

IMO with DP, don't worry too much about building trying to block stuff. Just tank up and you'll become unkillable if your ult is active (heart, shivas, sheep etc).

Hotd first is a more greedy build that only works if you plan on farming. However, you have to either have good teammates/teamcomp that can play 4v5, or opponents that don't know how to punish hotd. It's very bad for fighting early on though due to how squishy Luna is.

However, if nothing happens in the first 20mins, hotd will shine because youve been doing nothing but farming (aka, fatter due to better farming).

I always max silence. 6 seconds is deadly, whereas the trade off would be +6 all stats, which is just some 109 hp, ~1 armor, 6 atk speed, 6 dmg and... 78 mana?

Hey molla here's a game

We drafted Mirana, Furion, Pug, Morph and Bloodseeker in this order. Guess how we laned this.

(opponent team was rub, lesh, jug, viper and doom).
Caster was mean and called us out for being trollish

We ended up with Mirana off, BS mid, Morph safe and pug/furion dual jungle.

We had to switch mirana and morph around to dodge their trilane after scouting (they were running safe-tri while we thought they would be running aggro-tri like they did in game 1). Original plan was for pug to safe-jungle, while furion took dire-jungle, but I was afraid of their ward scouting it out so it got aborted.

Game was for AD2L... apparently some 400 ppl were watching. I watched part of the replay, and luckily the caster didn't ever focus on my fail jungling (but he pointed out my very late 13-min midas >.>)

Haven't seen SoF build yet, but I would imagine it would weaken your early game killing potential?

As for embers losing, he won a lot when he first came out, and naturally, pros have found ways to counter him. Ember is incredibly squishy (has terrible stats gains), and if you can lock him down he's as good as dead. There was a liquid vs navi game where xvost ember got shut down hard by tinker + beastmaster + naix combo (mainly first 2 locking down and naix hitting away). Naix also because he could infest for their global ganks.
Another example would be a game I played last night, where an ember was stomping my team, but couldn't do anything late-game because I could just blink in and abyssal him as an ursa, and blow him up before he could move.

Most casters like toby and LD/godz do a rather good job of it, but the problem with dota is that everything just happens too fast for them to break down every little thing, so team fights can be very hard to digest if you can't instantly figure out everything that's happening.

Oh, you won't ever find those in a live game, you need to watch tutorials/learning videos for those. They can't go around saying that every game after all. ; P

English casters have a tendency of focusing on building energy throughout their cast and making it entertaining for the viewers, while Chinese casts tend to be incredibly informative. I learned a ton from buying the G-1 league ticket last year and watching replays in-game with 2009 cast (one of the legendary captains of dota1). They tend to spend time discussing overall strategy, what heroes should/shouldn't be doing, and builds etc (discussing what items may or may not be needed, and the what/why of it).
Replays help a lot because you can see if someone's not spending gold, because then you need to wonder why they're not and what they may be saving for. Then, when you see what they saved for, you'll know for future references that "ok, that's a possibility". Say, you see one game where enig saves gold and gets a blink, and another where they save and get mek instead. You'll now know in the future that when you see enig saving gold, he might be going for mek or blink. Try and predict too and think for yourself what a hero may be saving for, and why (what's their team comp/strat, and what's the enemy doing).
Gotta be actively engaged and use your brain too, you learn much more when you try and figure things out for yourself too.

Also, Jakiro isn't a strength support, but he is as tanky as one, if not more so.

Abaddon is also a str support that you can try out.

There are other str heroes that you can make work as supports, but not normally recommended (tiny/slar).

If game not going that well (aka you're not getting fat), just get the arcanes. It'll at least enable to you keep up your mana for ganks/farm.

I feel that ES is one of thsoe heroes for which rotations are key (supports get paid contractually (aka only when you get kills) where as cores are more on hourly (lane creeps)). Thus you need to keep making things happen.

Right now I hear that Dual Breath/Liquid Fire build is popular. Personally I've always loved maxing ice path first, but liquid fire is very strong harass, especially if you run Jak mid. I'll sometimes put 2 points into it now as support because it does such a good job of zoning out the offlane (if your carry isn't terrible aka autoattacking creeps).

Techies are the most mana dependent hero in the game and if you go sobi first, you'll run out of mana after your first 5 mines rendering you useless for the next 5mins.

I'm so pissed about the riki changes nerfs his lane control so hard. Only good it does is help him in offlane and disrupting jungle.

PL is rekt with that rework there goes one of my favorite heroes.

Ranked AP change is probably the worst change of all though and fuck all those 3k reddit scrubs who think they're pro but actually understand nothing about the game bitching and whining about AP because they suck.

Precisely. They just took a giant dump on one of my favorite heroes.

PL's only been weak because of the current deathball meta. A meta shift would've brought a revival to PL but icefrog saw fit to destroy cancer lancer I guess.

I'm not saying 3k are bad, but those 3k ppl on reddit think that they deserve to be 5k but :REASONS:. They are the type of players to put blame on everything but themselves, and are probably the same idiots who participated in t he GIEF DIRETIDE whining last year.
